    She's shy!
    She's also a really pretty, coppery color.

    Fascinating. I was pumped when I saw the queen! I'm glad they're doing well. I like the chicken cameo too, haha.

      I still get excited every time I see the queen! And yes, I loved the cameo too 😆

    You really should make more videos like this! Very informative and unique. I don’t think I could locate a queen in real time, they all blend together to me!

      Thanks brother! There are times I never see the queen. I just look for eggs and brood pattern, then I know she's there and okay

    Does the Queen always stay in the hive? Or does she fly free too?? And the "starter" hive..is that yours as well? Way cool....

      Yes, once the queen mates, she stays inside... unless the hive swarms. Generally, in a swarm, the old queen leaves with half the hive to find a new home. The new queen will stay. The starter hives were splits from my other hives. A split is where a beekeeper reduces swarm activity by "splitting" the hive into multiple hives, while making uses of natural swarm cells (new queens developing), or introduces queen cells (produced elsewhere... breeder or other hive) and uses excess population and to start another.

      @@Smokeybeesnatural How many hives do you have?

    • @Smokeybeesnatural
      @Smokeybeesnatural  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @LadyYoop currently 11. I lost several last Christmas during the artic freeze. Mostly my fault. I over fed them during a warm Fall. Changing my strategy this year, so I won't lose as many and grow more next year.
