    Btw, it's always a good idea to keep a bunch of daggers, light hammers, javelins or any other throwing weapons on any strength based character. Lae'zel for example. This way you always have a ranged attack based on strength instead of dexterity. Use ranged weapon slot for something with passive magical effect rather than damage.

    • @Jules_Diplopia
      @Jules_Diplopia 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, but the best throwing weapons are the heaviest. Bludgeoning damage from the fall. Daggers etc don't have much weight, so you'd be relying on their base damage.

    • @alexmashkin863
      @alexmashkin863 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @Jules_Diplopia Daggers are light and don't clog the inventory. Melee fighter don't often need ranged option, but when he does, it's better to use strength rather than dexterity. So any throwing weapon will do, of course some spears might be better in damage, but daggers fly almost straight, everything else flies in a considerable arc :-)

      @Jules_Diplopia Nothing flies straight in this game 😅 But dagger's arc is much closer to aiming with arrow than a regular throw

    33:35 'oh, critical hit.' yours was by chance, his was by design. _Holding Person_ makes all melee attacks within 3m critical - and this guy hits hard.

    • @IsilionNELE
      @IsilionNELE 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Indeed.
      To expand on this, this happens because Held makes you Helpless. Other status effects which make you Helpless are Paralysed and Sleeping.
      Note that Prone does NOT make you Helpless since a Prone target is still able to roll around and parry and such.

    • @immersioneer

      Yeah, I didn't know this before, but now I figured this out. I think attacking Prone just gives you an advantage in melee.

    • @immersioneer
      @immersioneer  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@IsilionNELE I think I'll change Lae'zel's evasive footwork to Trip Attack... or shall I do Precision Attack? I feel like prone is very powerful for a melee character, given it also stops concentration, and negates attacks of opportunity. With Extra Attack, we could Trip Attack and then follow up with an attack as well - again, quite powerful...

    • @IsilionNELE
      @IsilionNELE 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@immersioneer Both Trip Attack and Precision Attack are very strong. Precision is good against bosses with high AC, while Trip increases the damage output of your party and has the other benefits you listed, but big strong enemies are often very resistant to being tripped. At level 7 you can choose additional manoeuvres so you can pick either Precision or Trip and pick the other at 7.

  • @IsilionNELE

    "How did Lae'zel get 2 bonus actions?"
    She didn't, but I can understand the confusion.
    In tabletop, using superiority dice on attacks you first do the attack and when it hits you can decide to make it a special attack with a superiority die, costing a bonus action.
    A literal implementation of this would result in a lot clicking and pop ups asking whether you want to make it a special attack every time you hit your target. That'd be very poor UI design so Larian, wisely, decided not to do that.
    Instead, they made the special attacks their own separate buttons which then cost an action (the attack) plus a bonus action (adding the superiority die) plus a superiority die (because you consumed one from your dice pool). This makes for MUCH smoother gameplay.
    If you miss with the special attack, your bonus action and superiority die instantly get refunded because you never actually spent them.
    That's why it SEEMED like Lae'zel had 2 bonus actions, she never spent the bonus action because she missed with her Feinting Attack.
    The same applies to special attacks such as Smites and such

    • @immersioneer
      @immersioneer  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks a lot, as always! I did figure it out in the next couple of episodes that it’s because I miss the special attack, but the above explanation makes that even clearer. I feel like that’s something most people miss and that makes battle-master kind of OP - the fact that the dice are not expended if the attack misses. Is that the case for all manoeuvres?

    • @IsilionNELE
      @IsilionNELE 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@immersioneer It's the case for all manoeuvres which add the superiority dice as damage dice, because, there, a miss means the damage die never gets rolled and thus it isn't consumed.
      But for Precision Attack the die is added to the attack roll, so even if it's a miss the die was still rolled and thus consumed, regardless of whether the superiority die made a difference or not.
      Nevertheless, Precision Attack is still very powerful because a miss is a lot of wasted damage.
      Also the average damage added by Precision Attack scales with your character and his gear, while the added damage by "damage manoeuvres" will always only be a d8 or d10. I'd say the bonus effect of "damage manoeuvres", such as disarm or prone, are more important than the the added damage.
      And yes, Battlemasters are often considered the strongest of the 3 fighter archetypes.
      Though, Eldritch Knights are THE best CC'ers because they can add disadvantage to saving throws which rare and huge. The game has some unique items which really enable the Eldritch Knight in this role, but I won't say more because you haven't found those yet

      OK, depends on the character. Pretty sure that Karlach would leave if you refues to attack the Paladins of Tyr, but too late for that. Wyll I had to knock him out and put him in a box. But back at camp its pretty easu, strip them of all their weapons tap them on the head. Pick up body and put in a chest.

    26:48 Lae'zel putting in a good word for Karlach's proposition wasn't good enough for you to [re-]consider? maybe take up her offer, make short work of those 'paladins', collect the sword you were eyeing and then part ways with Karlach again as you prefer to be this a Gith centred journey. 😃

    I don't quite get why you did that. I grasp that this is a duo of xenophobic gith, here, but Lae'zel approves of Karlach, and you can always leave the recruited characters at camp. In fact, it would make sense to recruit all of them and leave them at camp, if only to keep a close eye on anyone who might turn into a ghaik within reach of your sword rather than out in the wilderness where they might join together and become a greater danger.

      and then we have that little scuffle between Lae'zel and Shadowheart one night...

    • @immersioneer
      @immersioneer  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We killed Karlach because the dialogue wouldn't let us just leave her there - that was the ideal scenario.
      The reason I don't want anyone in our camp is because I think it's a bit immersion breaking. Gith don't ally with random characters, tadpole or not. If anything, I think Lae'zel would prefer to kill them pre-emptively as she thinks they will turn into ghaik eventually and they don't have access to the Creche anyway. Tal'quir is mostly of the same opinion.
      Gameplay-wise, I don't like having anyone in camp, even Volo. I also know that there are in-camp interactions between characters that you can't stop and I don't want to spoil those for myself or others and also don't want to detract from the main story and the interaction / relationship of the two main characters - Lae'zel and Tal'quir.

      I don’t like having anyone in camp and in past playthroughs I saw that Wyll turns up in camp and starts interacting with her anyway, so it kind of spoils a bit of the story and messes my duo narrative up a bit :)

      I didn't know that. I've never not recruited a companion.
