Metal can never be too loud, if you want to get the full experience go to a live concert, fyi it’s not as dangerous as people think, metal crowds are usually some of the nicest, they will get wild but if someone gets out of line they are subdued quickly, and if you really want to make one of those big leather clad Motörhead fans mad, disrespect a woman.

The useless tragedy that was WWI was never highlighted better. There's a live video of Bruce singing this one in Germany, wearing a german helmet and a dark grey overcoat, to remember the thousands of germans boys that died under the artillery while the brits were sinking into the mud.
    Sabaton next, I think.

Passchendale was actually the THIRD battle of Ypres. An estimated 500,000 were wounded or killed. In comparison, the bloodiest battle for America in WWII was Okinawa. 60,000 American casualties, 100,000 civilians casualties, 100,000 Japanese soldiers dead . 1/.2 of Passchendale's 3rd battle.

Maiden's songs have some amazing stories with instrumental parts that makes them feel almost cinematic, so you're not alone on thst "chest feeling" you mentioned, One of the reasons they are my favorite band of all time. There's actually another good (if that's appropriate term considering the subject) song about being on the verge of war from these guys (one of their most known songs). It's called Two Minutes To Midnight. It's about the Doomsday clock maintained by The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientist in University of Chicago from 1947. Midnight represents the end, and for a long time two minutes to midnight was the closest we've been to nuclear war (1953-1960 and 2018-2020) but currently we are 100 seconds to the end. They shifted it from two minutes less than a month ago. The end is getting closer and closer.

Coolest history lesson ever. That's what you get in a lot of Iron Maiden songs, and one of the best his "Aces High". It's about the British fighter pilots that saved England from being invaded by Germany. Just another really fun history lesson. And I don't know if you noticed yourself, but I noticed. When passchendaele started, you were r i ping your eardrums. Two verses and a chorus later you were turning it up. I like watching you react to music, you're funny. Always look at the lyrics so you know what it's about, and you realize how smart and have great the song writing really is.

Last year I was in Wellington, New Zealand where Weta Workshop and Peter Jackson had their WWI installment up in the Great War Memorial Museum and as soon as I stepped into the room dedicated to Passchendaele I turned around and walked out for a second to collect myself. I was on the verge of tears immediately. I didn't even need to read a sign, I just saw the picture of the horse sinking in the mud and knew exactly what was coming. This song came out the same year I was taking a war and society course in college. The first day I walked in, the professor handed me poem by Wilfred Owen, a British soldier who wrote about WWI but sadly died a week before the armistice, I said to him, this sounds a lot like a song by a band I love about this battle, Passchendaele. He told me some interesting facts about it that always stuck with me. That same year I went to see Maiden live, and they played Pashcendale, but before they did, Bruce recited a poem, not the same poem but I knew it had to be Wilfred Owen and it was, Anthem for a Damned Youth is the name of it. Now that I am a history teacher, I use these poems each year when going over WWI. Sometimes I show them the live video of this song, some love it, some hate it, either way, they remember it.

The story is the third battle of Ypres, otherwise knows as the battle of Paschendale. In the song the main character is waiting in a trench as the enemy attack. "Whistle shouts and more gunfire" the Germans are beginning their charge over the top. "Home, far away, from the war, a chance to live again. Home, far away, but the war, no chance to live again." He has just killed more men then should even be possible. Dozens, perhaps hundreds of Germans have just died before him. Blown to bits, shredded into steaming gore and swallowed by muddy ground. As the enemy are repelled, he then gets ready to charge in a counter-attack. As they go over the top they are shot dead, as is what happened at Ypres. The second time we hear the chorus it's about his own side this time, not the Germans. The tragedy of ww1 combat; massive swathes of men taking turns running into walls of machine guns. No closer depiction of hell has ever been realized.

they were lucky that they werent in the 2nd battle of Yperes, when the germans used Chemical weapons for the first time. The history behind that battle is way more tragic , with the wife of the man who would fed the world taking her life because she couldnt take the gas war.

An epic tale of the Alberta Canada, boys that lied about their age (17) to fight this battle. This is a brutal western Canadian fought and won battle.
I thought she’d head DOD. I’m shocked she wanted to learn a history lesson, compliments of western Canada.

Passchendaele as your second Maiden song certainly is an unorthodox choice...
Might I recommend "Sign of the Cross" live in Rock in Rio.

Really nice reaction! This is the first time that I see you enjoy the song like a real metalhead. It's really useful to hear the lyrics in metal, they are as important as the music. Iron Maiden is always telling stories in their lyrics, even History as Alexander The Great biography.
And please, be yourself! We are here for you and your reactions. We can hear the songs by ourselves. We like the way you are.
Thanks a lot for this video, I missed you!

Hey GiddyKitty I'm a new subscriber and I am glad you enjoyed this beautiful yet tragic song. This is a battle that happened in World War 1 in 1917. The changes in a song like this is called prog (progressive). Iron Maiden are the best at storytelling in song IMO. Almost all their songs are from books they read or movies they seen or like in this one, historical events. The band is very educated. I highly recommend Empire of the Clouds but I have to warn you it's an 18 minute long song. It, IMO, is their masterpiece. It's about a balloon rigid airship that crashed in France from England in 1930.

Welcome to my channel!🙊 Yess I can definitely sense that, the inspiration for the song was pretty unique. And thank you for pointing out Prog! Will keep it in mind. Holy shit 😂😂😂 18 mins?!?!?! Truth be told that was his first suggestion but I told him it would take forever to upload so his next choice was Paschendale xD

@@GiddyKitty Yeah it's a short song hahaha. Another suggestion from Maiden is Rime of the Ancient Mariner if you haven't heard it yet. It's a bit shorter at around 13 minutes lol
