Hitler's Underground Bunkersystem: Exploring the Command Center and Martin Bormanns private Bunker

- This is the world's only documentary about Martin Bormann's private bunker and the associated Command Tunnel on Obersalzberg.
With a total length of almost 700 meters, these two connected bunker systems are among the longest and also most interesting on Obersalzberg.
The "Vordereck-tunnel", also known as the "Command-tunnel", housed all of the intelligence technology of the "Füherhautquartier Berghof". The centerpiece of the facility was the "Flight- Reporting- Center", which was equipped with the most modern technical devices of the time. This was where all the threads of the intelligence system came together.
From May 1944, the facility housed the commander of the SS- Command, Obersturmbannführer Dr. Bernhard Frank, and his staff, as well as the Obersalzberg Administration.
Following the command tunnel, the private bunker of Martin Bormann is visited. With only six caverns, this bunker is relatively small and had neither shower nor bathing facilities.
Towards the end of the war, huge amounts of food and documents were stored here. Even today, remains of the documents can be found in the caverns.

Thankyou for the great information and footage put together. It is a shame that so much of this history has been destroyed and cover up . Just think of the money that could have been made to tourists coming to see, history being saved and taught to future generations....destroying and covering up these places of history, doesn't erase what took place .....
Maybe it's too much of a crowd control risk. Also, some parts of it would have to be restored and maintained so costs would be quite expensive. It would have to see a looot of visitors to make money just for staffing and maintenance. This is the second biggest manmade bunker I've ever seen. The largest are the ones built by a brand named Vivos, which is making panic rooms for the mega-rich but those seem hilariously overpriced. Vivos installed unnecessary stuff such as underground swimming pools, movie theaters, etc., driving the price for one room in the skies. Only someone with several million dollars could afford even a single bedroom condo there!
I got to do a partial tour of one of the tunnels...I remember the long corridor that was covered at both ends of the machine gun portals. That and the tour of the salt mine... I really loved doing weekend trips to the Obersalzburg, while I was working at Katterbach, Mittelfranken.
Are people able to go further up the mountain to the site of the former Eagle's Nest? do you have any public pictures online of your trips there?
Even though I understand the reasons why I was done ,I still don't agree with removing and destroying historical places like these .Hiding underground in the last years of the Nazi government would teach more what they were about than encouraging new versions.
These historical places full of evils no one's want to remember ...Adolf hitler and all his henchmen have secrets bunkers because of their wicked evil doing they all live in fear ...
this old system is a Sophisticated tunnel system for sure. I Cant image what the tunnels are like that are in service today. if they were that good back then, today they must be very freakin awesome

These tunnels are amazing and the way man was able to dig and build so fast. Each room and staircase was and still is a place of history that needs protection for the future to understand man and how evil even needs a place of shelter! Thank you for this film. Totally fascinating to think what evil may have lurked in here!
@Richardo Franzie it’s a memory to those who where made to work in these places that is the most important part of why they should be kept. The people who died in conditions so horrendous it’s keeping their memories in our minds. Without them no one remembers the suffering and who caused it! I’m not if you think glorifying the Nazis, your totally mistaken!
You don't need a defunct shelter to demonstrate the evil in man. Just take a good look at any place, in any age.
I wonder if they executed them afterwards like the 'Wulfs Lair' to keep it secret,imagine labouring away in not so pleasant conditions and knowing you going to get whacked,escape was pretty much impossible with SS guards ready to mow you down with MP40s should make a break for it...
These places need to be turned into museums.
How could it be brought up to the building safety standards of today with hundreds of people walking through? Just one small fire...

Excellent construction and attention to technical requirements such as communications and ventilation. These bunkers must be preserved for future generations to see!

Hard to believe the size of the system. As you tour the tunnels you don't see any lighting anywhere. I'm guessing that everything that was worth anything was taken by residents or the military.
It is sad that it will never be open to the public for tours.
The construction of such a place is so hard to imagine, unbelievable engineering abilities.

Brilliantly detailed and interesting, thank you so much. I don't understand why the bunker system has now largely been sealed off, this is living history and an amazing piece of engineering, so important to remember the doubtless countess lives lost and backbreaking work of men in the creation of these tunnels. Why not have a museum entrance with finds from the bunker system then clean and reinstall the pumps etc and have the entire system open for everyone to see. I don't feel this would a glorification of the Nazis but a chance to witness history just as you may visit a castle which was at some point in history used for defence.
A good and informative tour. We all surely know what a dreadful lot the Nazi's were, but i'm afraid you have to admire the engineering feat to build this underground bunker, disgusting place though it is.

And the victors always label themselves the good guys, but who determines that? The ones calling themselves the good guys? Not many people are left from that time to defend or determine what happened, outside of the same stuff that’s been said for years, things that make you say hmmm

I'd like to add it's a shame the original cones for the primary antenna systems were destroyed to build the new hotel on the Obersalzburg. I probably wouldn't recognize where we spent so much time. Never staying at the General Walker. But there slot machines in the basement as you approached the tunnels

How come the tunnelsystems and the mainfunctional rooms are ALWAYS stripped out of existence? Even the safes are carried out, badass whights kolosal steel. Why are this so important?
There are a number of reasons.
First off the Nazis destroyed, burned, and bombed a lot of their equipment on their way out. However, you can find videos of the bunkers shot after the Allies captured them and they were a lot more complete yet still badly damaged.
Second, the Allies and US servicemen stripped most of the bunkers of personal belongings or interesting items. A lot of it was taken as souvenirs by enlisted men. The US military took radios and electronics to study and also to not let the technology fall into the hands of other foreign powers.
Finally, the local looters took everything else, including stripping wood, electrical, furniture, doors, etc. Building materials and metal were extremely hard to find in Germany after the war. People wanted to rebuild their homes and businesses and one of the only ways it could be done was with looted materials. The rest was sold for scrap.
I am sure there are experts that will be able to expand on this.

I enjoy coming to this area, and I find it one of the most fascinating places on the planet.
This is an amazing video, it is showing us what the Nazis built to protect themselves from the outside world because of the war they cause. Fascinating video, really thank you for making it and making it very clear to all of us. I love the voice of the commentator, he is not overly dramatic or saying things that make it difficult to understand. It also helps understand the vast measures the Nazis although paranoia of what could happen built to protect themselves. They were a bunch of mentally deranged people who follow Hitler and made him who he was or what he was to become the worst person to lead to the destruction and killing of millions of jews, of many more millions of deaths just because he wishes to obtain power.
Hitler was one amongst the many lunatics in a lunatic world during the 30's and beyond. No one is worse than the next lunatic. Churchill, Stalin, Mao, Roosevelt, Tito, Muselini, Hirohito, and the list goes on and on.

That would make a great time traveling movie location. start and finish the movie in modern day bunkers, exploring them, and at the start, do flash backs to the 1940s and at some turn or walk through, step back into time. main part of the movie live in the bunkers in ww2. the explorier will start out dressed in todays clothing and than find himself in ww2 german uniform.

It's great engineering but used very little. Clearly Hitler could have run the war from the Berghof full time if he wanted to.
I believe it probably would have gave him a little bit longer to hold on. This would be very similar in nature to our Cheyenne mountain/ Colorado springs military installation. All aspects of the branch's of military are all centrally located in one bunkered hillside. Would have loved to seen what one of our "MOAB's" or a "bunker buster" could have done to this fortified bunker system before it was demolished. It's absolutely sad that it was allowed to be demolished like so many other's.but yet the Eagles Nest was allowed to stay!
after watching nearly all your serie of obersalzberg bunkers, one could say that bunker building was the most stable and safe job of the entire war for the german workers.... they didn't use slave labor in theses... maybe they didn't want the concentration camp nearby?
