This is the place to come for sound demos. Other companies are pretty good but these guys are the best. Why you ask? Because the drums and the equipment sounds like it should in the Room. No extensive equalisation or compression or pardon my language dicking around. No it doesn't sound like a recording studio, it sounds like a guy playing a drum set, like it should!!!
To be honest I think you have to give some credit to the room itself. DCP is hardwood floors and high ceilings which are a drummer's dream when it comes to tracking. The hardwood floors were probably put in after the purchase of the building and I would imagine that certain sections of the ceiling were removed in order to create those high interior elevations. I think it's safe to say that Shane knew what he was doing when he bought this place. And let's not forget; the boys ain't exactly tracking with SM58's dangling from the rafters either.
Absolutely i always think that the sound demos are the full potential of how good you can even take a mid level kit to… room matters, mics matter , drums matter! DCP BY FAR THE BEST DRUM SHOP ITS MY DREAM TO GO THERE ONE OF THESE DAYS
Just bought this exact kit from y’all, sooooooo excited! I’ve bought like 6 different kits over the last 10 years and sold them all within a year because they were not the Tama Starclassic b/b I’ve always wanted. Well after watching your b/b versus b/w comparison and seeing this awesome and unique finish, combined with a snow day off work here in Dallas … I hit the buy now button! Drummers, don’t settle! Get what you really want and dream about. I lost hundreds every time I sold a set I settled for. This time I’m keeping my dream kit forever!
Yesir! So glad you’re a Tama guy! Back in Feb of this year I purchased the Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch with 8, 10, 12 rack toms, 14, 16 and 18 floor toms and a 22 inch bass drum all in Piano Black finish! Will be coming in mid October! It’s been 30 years as I’ve had a 6 piece Tama Rockstar-DX since 92’ and finally upgrading! Yeah man TAMA forever!
Just bought this kit from DCP last week with the added 8” and 14” toms. The finish is even more stunning in person. I’ve wanted a Starclassic kit since 1998 and couldn’t be happier!
A few months ago I bought the Starclassic walnut/birch, in the yellow neon oyster finish, 5 piece kit with the matching snare. I’ve wanted a starclassic kit since 2006 and I also couldn’t be happier!
I bought this kit with the matching snare. The sound AND the looks are amazing. The hardware is phenomenal, especially with the memory lock system. Tony took his time to make sure he answered every question I had. I could not have made a better choice. I'm delighted.
So last year I was thinking about buying this, but hesitated (WHY!?) then kicked myself when it sold out. I had resigned myself to continue the search for a the dream kit. Words can't describe my excitement seeing these back in stock! Just bought the kit AND an extra floor tom. Thanks DCP!
I bought this kit it's great. I was using a tama rockstar for the last 15 years. The fit and finish on these drums are spectacular. I can see the light between the heads and the shell. The sound is amazing and the dark inner shells look great.
Sounds like Tama finally got it right this time! You can actually hear the difference in tone intervals with these amazing drums. Thank you TAMA & especially THANKS to NEW HAMSHIRE DRUM CENTER.
Ordered mine on Friday evening and it shipped today. Looked again today and there are 3 left. Looks like I made it just in time. Can’t wait for them to arrive! I’ve been looking at the Starclassics for a couple of years, ready to pull the trigger, but none of the finishes really excited me... until I saw this set!
I have a Starclassic Performer B/B. I had the gorgeous SLP Studio Maple kit in this finish but I missed the Starclassic hardware. Got this a kit a couple weeks ago and bought the 3 add on drums. I took these out for a jam and I was in heaven. Thank you, guys for this masterpiece!
Thank you Shane and the crew at DCP! I love the videos and the top notch products you make available to us. I love my walnut birch kit and the snare with the die cast hoops sounds amazing. You guys rock!!
I own a SC birch/walnut in VMP. They sound amazing and the hardware is many steps above the hardware on my Saturn kit. I think my Saturns may have sounded better, but not having the Starclassic’s in the same room makes it hard to tell. Also, thanks for all the great content; you guys do a fantastic job and take a ton of time making these videos!
love the color. They sound amazing too. I bought the Red Oyster kit with extra 14x8 and 14x5.5 snares. Also a brass Starphonic 14x6 snare from you guys. I like having the option of changing snares to fit sound that i want. I,ve always loved Tama drums and have owned 2 other Tama Kits one which i still have is a 1987 Grandstar kit that has been painstakingly restored. I love and respect your videos and views on products, thanks for keeping us abreast of the ever changing percussion world. I think that Tama hit the mark in 2020 with all their new innovations and colors on the Starclassic line. Great job Tama!
Both in the "Best Drumsets under $2000" video and this one, for some reason when you swap to Room Mics, you seem to stay off of the toms more. I dont think this is intentional, but it is frustrating because they sound so great on the Full Mix, I am trying to really hear what they would 'normally' sound like in general while playing in any typical room/setup. Love you guys' channel and info, thanks for the videos!
And hey hey! Nice buy there! This finish is really amazing and I’ve been a Tama guy my whole drumming life! And I’ve just been able to upgrade from my Tama Rockstar DX “Misty Chrome” finish that I’ve had since early 92’! Yeah man and I was even considering buying Yamaha, Ludwig, Pearl or DW. Then I was like, “nah, I’m a Tama guy for life” and I just got the Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch too with Piano Black finish, because it just goes with any style! And got 8, 10 and 12 inch rack toms with 14, 16 and 18 floor toms and a 22 inch bass drum! Yeah, the hardware is so heavy duty and I got the chrome on the piano black. I had a 24 bass drum with my Rockstar-DX, 10 high rack tom, 16 and 18 floor toms and a 12 tom to the left of the high hat. Well done Tama with great great drums with such great human touches and professionalism! Tama for life baby! And great job on all the videos and demos you guys do! The Tama ones you do are the best! Haha lol keep up the great work! Rock N Roll!
If you have time, could you guys please do a re-make of the Tama Starclassic Maple Exotix 4pc Drum Set (Walnut Burst) from Sep 2017? At the time I don't think you were using room mics, full mixes etc and I would REALLY like to better compare it to the SC W/B kit (here). Thanks!
Just bought this kit from you guys but it is in the blue molten ice fade. I wanted the 14 inch Tom so I bought it from you too but it's in the satin sapphire fade. Hopefully they won't look too awkward together lol
I generally agree with the review with one very important exception that I noted on a different review of the same drums. First, the good: Yes, these drums sound amazing. In medium to low register the tom sound is pristine. I use an app to help tune the resonant head to get a linear decay, and to my ears, they outshine comparably priced maple drums. Also, the finish is beautiful, mine is the Phantasm Lacquer Oyster. I've played it once under stage lights, and it is a great look, sort of retro but very cool. The star cast mounting system with the quick release toms and die cast hoops is super simple to use, and the drum sound is great. Now, the one issue/drawback/flaw; the weight of the tom mount, and the impact on the bass drum. The amazing hardware does in fact seem to have nearly endless options for positioning toms. The price, however, is weight. This thing is a very heavy chunk of metal, and you will notice it when you have to carry the drums. With all this weight from the toms and the holder, and because the mounting hardware does in fact attach to the kick with 4 screws, the stress and vibrations on my kit led to a series of small cracks that appear to be under the lacquer finish where the hardware mounts on to the kick. Imagine running you finger over glass that has been cracked and "spider webbed" but not broken, that's what it feels like. I think the shells are fairly thin, and the weight of 2 toms, a 7 pound mount and all the vibrations are too much. My "solution" was to remove the hardware from the kick drum and use it as "almost" virgin. This required some hardware modifications that were not awful, just annoying. Bottom line, if I could go back, I would just order the drums without the kickdrum mount and plan on combo cymbal/tom stands instead. Still great sounding / looking drums, just a little shy of perfect.
Took Todd suchermans advice and got my dream drums. Just ordered these with an 8 inch Tom and 14 inch floor Tom and the matching snare drum. Cannot wait.
@@ivanbajovic3476 I don't think Todd suggested a specific kit. Just get the kit that you love to play whether it's Pearl, Tama, Yamaha whatever... If you are inspired to play a particular kit, get that kit.
See what we really need made available is this kit in the phantasm oyster with black nickel hardware. That combo looks pretty slick together. Me personally tho, Im not vibing with this look as much but it's still a sharp looking set. Tama easily has the best finishes for drums in their market tier.
Ah man...drums like these make it really hard to accept my spine issues & inability to work to buy a set. That's the sound I've been looking for for 20 years. They sound so good through my studio monitors. And I friggin love that finish as much as the sound. I'm going to bed now so I can dream. lol
Hey drumfanatik3116. I called Jeremy yesterday and was told it was not possible to order a second, different size floor tom in the same finish. It is what it is.
As always, your videos look and sound great, especially the "Full" mix! Can you provide a link to those mics? I am interested inpurphasing them. Thank you!
You know, I had my doubts about this kit for a long time for some reason, it just seemed like a consolation prize after birch bubinga got the axe. But this recording ain't half bad.
From the video, the toms sound a bit like Recording Customs, which makes sense because of the birch. From a dealer/expert point of view, how would you compare the two kits?
I have the Birch/Bubingas in Lacquered White Oyster and let me tell you something: photos and videos can't come close to showing how awesome these lacquered oyster finishes are! If you think Tama finishes look good in videos they will blow your mind in person!
I wish I could order a Tama kit in the lacquered white oyster. If I would’ve know they were going to discontinue that finish, I would ordered a kit beforehand. :(
The hardware top notch no doubt, my only push back about the rack toms hoops is that it's difficult for someone with thick fingers like myself to finger tighten the tension rods around the starcast mounting system.
I have this kit and played maple kits for 16 years prior (not starclassic though). These are able to maintain a nice LOW tuning and resonate very well, especially the floor tom. I think a lot of it has to do with their mounting hardware though. Both are a solid choice, but I am sold for life on walnut/birch. They sound incredible.
❤️! I would certainly order this if I didn't already pick the kit in Jade Silk. Your tuning sounds better than any other videos I have watched. I will be working to get this same tuning.
Wish Tama would make this a standard finish!!! Or be able to get add ons or different configurations in this color!!! I have my 50th birthday coming up and the wife wants to buy me a special kit to commemorate it!!! What better way than a limited edition kit with my own configuration? Can you guys make it happen??? The hardware top notch no doubt, my only push back about the rack toms hoops is that it's difficult for someone with thick fingers like myself to finger tighten the tension rods around the starcast mounting system.
Is that limited edition of drum center of Portsmouth exclusive? Yes or no? And why?
Exclusive to us in this finish!
Would you recommend this over the maple or the Starclassic performer? Thanks
I bought this kit two years ago after 20 years of playing maple. Maple is great but I am still crazy about how good these drums sound. So punchy!
Omg guys, why? Why?
Now all i think about is this kit 😔
Great video!! Is there a huge difference between this kit and the Starclassic Maple drum kit in terms of resonance and tuning range? Thanks.
Cool, thank you very much!
Can I add a 8 in and 16 inch?
Wish Tama would make this a standard finish!!! Or be able to get add ons or different configurations in this color!!! I have my 50th birthday coming up and the wife wants to buy me a special kit to commemorate it!!! What better way than a limited edition kit with my own configuration? Can you guys make it happen??? Asking for a friend!
😁😁😁
