Sure, Marco had seen some places along the way when he came to China, but once there, he just stayed there for years, moving mostly inside China, while Ibn Batuta constantly traveled across different countries. No wonder the Netflix Marco Polo was cancelled, and had to invent some fake plotlines to keep things interesting.

Especially so because Islam actively avoided using bells in worship. There’s actually a story about the Prophet Muhammad debating what tool he should use to call Muslims to pray: a rams horn like the Jews or bells like the Christians. He debated this until an angel spoke to him, saying that the thing he should use is the voice given to him by G-d. And so, that’s why Muslims call people to prayer by literally calling them

We had to read about the failed policies of Mohammad Bin Tughlaq in school , especially his transferring the capital from Delhi, which was actually not a very bad idea as Delhi being nearer to the north western border of India was vulnerable to foreign invasion, however his decision to shift most of the people and not just the administrative offices was a calamitous decision. He was also said to have issued paper currency, however didn’t have any mechanism to stop counterfeiting. He was also one of the sultans relatively tolerant of other religions. I read the original book the film's based on. Ibn Fadlan was a real life guy who met the vikings. Tne book tried to lead into the story by first including Ibn's notes, then going into the story.
But personally, I don't think it worked. Ibn's account of them was far less.. honourable than Crichton, who saw the Viking as the rough 'real' honest men. You can tell when the American took over because that's the point the Viking's start getting their own kind of honour and brotherhood. Instead of say, actively killing each other when they get drunk and celebrating, which is something we read earlier.
