    Shawn, you are very creative with your garlic growing but also with creating a small raised bed to border your garden. Raised beds do not have to be big to be effective. Excited to try this process as I missed getting garlic into the ground last fall. I actually had a few cloves come up from after my harvesting. Will do this process to fill in with new cloves.

    This was an excellent video. The best that I have seen on growing garlic. A great common sense approach and I’m glad you showed from start to finish. Loved seeing the results at the end.. Plus, I like the refrigerator idea much better than the freezer so that the cloves start with roots already!Also, it is great to know you can do it throughout the summer for successive crops. Great idea. I am going to do this. It means that I’m not too late for a crop this year doing it with your method. Thanks again so much!

    In my refrigerator I found garlic cloves inside of a glass container with a lid. They have a rooted! Roots are a tiny bit shorter than roots on garlic shown in this YT video.
    I of course had not soil in my glass container. I’m going to plant them to see what happens! I’m excited about my mistake! Lol

    I am so happy to see this video! I have some garlic that I received in the mail on Oct. 15th. I put it in the refrigerator until I had the chance to plant it out in December or January (I'm in zone 8 in TX). But I think I could do this method with the soil and baggie in the refrigerator for another month before I plant them out so they can have the roots they need to get established in January. It doesn't get very cold during our winters--although we may get a big freeze or two before it's all over--but I think my garlic will have a chance to mature early if I try this method. Thanks SO MUCH for sharing this!!! 👍🏾👍🏾

    Hi Shawn! This was such an exciting way to grow garlic which I have never done before. I followed your instructions and my garlic has been in the fridge for 3 weeks now but I am not seeing any roots yet. Should I add some more water to the soil or should I stop being so impatient and leave them alone?!?!?! Thank you!

      Hi Trina. It's just standard potting soil in the bags. Once dried out, we store them in a mesh type, open air bag and store in a dark area in our basement. Thanks for watching!

  • @1charlastar886

    In warm climates hard neck garlic has to be vernalized in the refrigerator for 2 1/2 to 3 months or they will never bulb up properly. In zone 8B, I plant in November and harvest in May. FREEZING garlic will KILL it.

  • @jenniferlawson3847
    @jenniferlawson3847 ปีที่แล้ว

    I live in Michigan too so your tutorials are so helpful since we are both in the same growing zone. I'm prepping my garlic to put in the fridge today & hoping for good results like you had. I have watched some tutorials & read some comments about squirrels & foxes digging up & eating peoples garlic. We have a lot of squirrels around here & I'm wondering if I'm going to need some type of protection to keep my garlic safe from critters. Have you ever had that kind of problem?

    • @ShawnBauer
      @ShawnBauer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only in the winter bc once the roots take hold they are in the ground pretty good. With that said I do have a fence around my garden but, that doesn’t keep squirrels out.

    I am a newbie and I rooted mine in 3 days by cutting the tips and letting them sit in a bag of dirt. They started rooting in 24 hrs and grew longer in 3 days. Just wondering if the fake winter thing is really necessary. It's April (Spring).

    • @ShawnBauer
      @ShawnBauer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately you’re most likely to get plant growth but no bulb effect that produces more clove’s. I’d shock them with cold for a least a month in the frig before planting

    • @ShawnBauer

    These developed bulbs in only 2 1/2 months? Why do other growers plant in oct/nov and then harvest in July? Do the bulbs get that much bigger being in the ground for 9 months instead of 2 1/2 months?

    • @ShawnBauer
      @ShawnBauer  ปีที่แล้ว

      That really depends on where you live. You plant in Nov to get a little root growth and get the cold weather needed. It will go dormant through the winter (just like in frig). It really won’t grow much at all until soil temps are up.
