    I used to believe this too, but now I disagree. being trans + not having dysphoria doesnt make sense. i think the core issue is peoples different definitions of the word. dysphoria doesnt just mean hating your body or wanting to change it, it can refer to any kind of discomfort physically OR socially wrt your assigned gender at birth. if you dont experience any of this, what makes you trans? (experiencing "gender euphoria" counts too)
    for the record, i dont think anyones saying you need to show "outward signs of being trans" in order to be trans. that has nothing to do with dysphoria

      Oh!! Thank you so much for clearing this up! When you said experiencing gender euphoria counts, did you mean that someone can have gender euphoria and not hate themselves? I'm currently researching this topic and I'm trying to get as much information as possible before formulating my opinion. Thank you so much for your time!

      i think gender euphoria only makes sense as like, an individual who had dysphoria got surgery/changed pronouns/hrt and is now comfortable in their body so their euphoric about it

    I would NEVER disrespect someone’s pronouns or purposefully invalidate their identity if they told me they were trans or nonbinary. It’s not my place to tell people how to live their lives. But, from the perspective of someone on the opposite side of the argument, if someone doesn’t experience dysphoria then what makes them trans? Truthfully, I want to know. There are plenty of cis women who are very masculine or who don’t really fulfill the stereotypical role of a woman in society, but that doesn’t make them trans. The only thing I can think of that would make you trans is dysphoria, whether that be social or physical or some other kind. Someone please enlighten me

      Hi !!
      Idk about your gender but, based on your post, I guess you're cis right ? (I'm sorry if I guessed wrong.) Then, what makes you think you are in the first place ? What makes you a man/woman ? Would you suffer if you were misgendered ? If not, do have any other "proof" that you're of this gender ?
      Why do trans people need to justify their gender, whereas cis people don't ?
      My opinion is, once you admit trans people just exist and that they are valid (and of course they are), you have to admit your body only (or/and your official identity given to you by society at birth) isn't enough to assert you own gender (am I right, ppl ?). Then, there can be no evidence of anybody's gender... except the way they feel deep inside (AND in relation to society's gender roles - I think - but that's another issue !).
      So, how do YOU feel ? And if you've personally never felt gender dysphoria, then what are your OWN reasons to claim your gender ? Do you even have any ?
      Well... even if you don't, I'd (we'd) still respect it anyway. Because it's your identity, and you own it.
      Does it help ?
      I hope I didn't say anything wrong. I'm not trans myself (though I guess I'm nonbinary, or... rather still questioning), so tell me if I've hurt anyone. I really hope not !

      Misszecat - I actually am trans, FtM!! And like I said, if someone tells me that they’re trans but doesn’t experience dysphoria, chances are I won’t say anything about it. I know what it’s like to feel invalidated by another person in this regard and I’d never purposely make someone else feel that way. I just don’t know what makes you trans other than dysphoria? Being trans isn’t fun. You have to deal with coming out, rejection, gatekeeping, wait lists, etc. So I don’t understand why anyone would want to transition if they didn’t feel dysphoria, whether it be social or physical. And if you didn’t originally experience dysphoria, then wouldn’t you begin to experience it as you transitioned?

    • @river7530
      @river7530 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Maybe Baby I experience dysphoria so I'm not speaking from personal experience, but I know that sometimes trans people who aren't ever or are hardly ever dysphoric sometimes focus on what some people call "gender euphoria" which is sort of the opposite of dysphoria. Though they might not absolutely hate the body they're in, they may feel a lot more comfortable when they're perceived as the gender they identify with. I also like how the previous person said our bodies aren't enough to dictate our identities bc that applies to both cis and trans people. You can't reduce any identity to just what your body is/how you feel about it, so in the same respect, you can't reduce trans identity to if you have dysphoria. You also have to take into account how you feel apart from your body (what gender you know you are in your heart/soul if you will), so while that may be related to dysphoria in your experience, the fact of the matter is that it isn't the case for many others. Hope that helped!

    Nope. You need dysphoria to be trans. I’d never misgender someone, but the problem with non dysphorics is that they worm their way into trans spaces. Also if you’ve transitioned and u don’t experience dysphoria, this doesn’t apply to you. Also getting on hormones for a body aesthetic?! What the heck

    I feel like this is an interesting point of view, and honestly I very much respect it. I think I honestly do agree, because the definition of being trans is identifying as a gender that is different from the one that you were assigned as birth, and it doesn't mention being dysphoric. I think you're right, no one can know a person better than they know themself, so honestly who are we to judge? I feel like we should just live in a society where people are allowed to play with their gender, and instead of people assuming that someone is a boy or a girl, you can just love and embrace the person for who they are and who they want to be. I also think asking someone's pronouns when introducing yourself wouldn't be as hard as I keep hearing people say, it's no harder than remembering a nickname. Unfortunately I think society has a long ways to go before getting to that point, but I have hopes for the future.

    dysphoria is literally the only thing you need to be trans. If you don’t experience some kind of body or social dysphoria, when why the hell would you transition if you are completely comfortable in the gender you were assigned with at birth. That just does not make any sense

    Saying you need dysphoria to be trans isn't nb erasure, dysphoric nb people are valid. You talk about detransitioning as if it wasn't a big deal but it is, someone getting dysphoria after starting hrt is horrible. And I'm not even talking about how those detransitioners often turn into terfs because they generalize their experiences.
    Saying you don't need dysphoria to be trans isn't logical and it's harmful, which is why we talk about it.

    Why do you need to make a video on this??? You asked that and because of it, I was certain you would say yes. It's pretty much a no-brainer that yet you do need dysphoria, because for the past many years, having dysphoria has been the _literal reason why you're trans._ Saying you need it to be trans doesn't invalidate non-binary people because non-binary people aren't trans. That also doesn't invalidate them because if someone isn't something then it shouldn't be a crime to tell them that.

    I've long since stopped trying to explain this to cishet people. It's so useless. Cis people will often times use gender dysphoria & the "dangers" of female gender assigned people taking testosterone. & the only thing I say is "How does that disable you (a cis person) from treating trans people with respect?" Like it just doesn't make sense. But as I said. I don't waste my time trying to explain to cis people that they should just mind their own business.

    You do need to have dysphoria to be trans, everyone else’s experience is different.
    But, there are people out there identifying themselves as the opposite gender to look “cool” and to “fit in”. Which makes transgenders look bad.
    It isn’t a great feeling, I know that.
    I’m not trans and I haven’t been diagnosed with dysphoria but I’m 100% sure you need to experience at least some dysphoria to be trans.
    I might’ve misunderstood.

    • @hdfdsk3925
      @hdfdsk3925 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Gender is just a feeling and people label themself as a identity they feel comfortable with, and that's totally okay. Why should we stop them? Its their bussiness. There's no trans person who thinks that its cool to be trans, bc you get discriminated all the time, get delegitimized and so on. It's never "cool" or "funny". For nobody, also not for trans people without dysphoria.
