Instead of moaning about some random sound issues on the stage, people should focus on recognizing how little it takes to make a song shift from good to great. It's amazing to see how simple and repetitive the arrangement is on this song, while the weird but extremely interesting chord progression and the great vocal performances on top make it shine. Obviously, the groove is simple yet effective too. It just goes to show: Focus on the important bits of your songwriting and bloody practice your performance to become a master. Thanks, Ski, for another inspiring deconstruction!

only 10 mins in and I cannot thank you enough for this breakdown I love how you go into the music theory as well and keep it simple for a beginner like me, this is so awesome !
Feel Good Inc credits: Vocals: Damon Albarn De La Soul Bass: Morgan Nicholls Elec Guitar: Simon Tong Acoustic Guitar: Damon Albarn Drums: Cass Browne James Dring Produced/engineering: Danger Mouse Tom Girling Jason Cox
You missed the part that comes in under the vocals in the first verse, the quiet detuned sounding plucky synth, haha but thats super picky, this is insane, so cool
We had some limitations at the venue and could only get the master output and not split mic/laptop. The phasing is from the stage monitors playing back the laptop audio, interfering with the microphone.
I've just realised that the crash that he played at 6:45 is the same as the crash in "Clint Eastwood" an alternate band that used the same set of drums in their 2 biggest songs. That's something you just don't see nowadays.
takes some knowledge to be able to do this, cant wait to start the music production and sound engineering degree at point blank next year just happy to have the youtube channel for now haha
amazing deconstruction and very informative video ! There is one cool sound missing - at 2:04 - there is a short "beep" sound which sounds really amazing anyone has an idea if it was sampled or synthesizedf ?
Is this part of a music convention or is it a demo during a class? Would really like to see something like this or watch something that Point Blank are hosting in the future!
Hi Saffron. This was at Sonar +D in Barcelona, so a convention of sorts. Ski does these kinds of deconstructions regularly though and there's quite a few on our channel. Try the recent ones on tracks by Massive Attack, 808 State and Calvin Harris for more of this kind of thing.
im curious, is there a reason why the left channel is inverted during the original song playback? it was very annoying, made me want to turn my head... anyway, this was a great deconstruction as always, thanks.
Yeah I've been waiting for something like this cool man. Now would you pls do a Brand New Heavies deconstruction or Morsheeba(hope I spelled it right)) thanks
Um as far as music theory goes, the reason you can play a E major chord over an E minor bass riff, I think works because it's because it's blues, not because it was out of tune.
Man I wish I could wrap my head around the music theory part of this more. Did he recognize the scale by ear or construct the notes and then identify the scale?
He had the score already laid out for him and so he knew. Could have possibly known it by ear or constructed the scale from the notes he played either way though, as it doesn't really matter :)
Really nice vids. Learn a lot from them. I get a little bit lost with Ableton and the arrangement view he always uses. A bit difficult to guess in what part of the song things go. It'll be easier for non-Ableton users if he so kind could use the other window where one could have a visual contest of what he is doing. But apart from that all good!!
This really was a top notch deconstruction by Ski who's all-round talent is on the level... Enjoyed watching and found great inspiration in how this was made. Thanks man.
Awesome Video and good rebuild of the Original but for me the analysis of the song is missing.. why they did this and that and the music theory behind that
We had some limitations at the venue and could only get the master output rather than separate mic/laptop feeds. The phasing is from the stage monitors playing back the laptop audio, interfering with the microphone.
arghhh hate to say this but the "guitar" arpeggio on the first chord is slightly off. i think you got one note wrong and takes me out of the listening experience. other than that impressive decosntruction well done.
@@TheDavidKettle he's using kontakt and sylenth1, etc. he could have done WAY better, at first I thought he was going to be using ableton built-in devices, specially since you have so much control for humanizing with kontakt libraries.
i hate the first chord on the arpeggiated guitar, i hadn't noticed it until now, now everytime i listen to the real song i can't stop hearing how wrong it is.
I did my own deconstruction of the song called blood sweat and tears by BTS. I might upload a video about it I didn't do the audio things like this but I did a whole lot of theories
These deconstructions are one of the best things that come out of Point Blank Music School

It was recorded at studio 13 (damon's studio) Kong studios is a fictional studio in the universe of the virtual band.
kong studios..
This song really is a masterpiece, amazing to see the deconstruction

This is not easy to perform on the fly.....brilliant deconstruction!

That drum beat and guitar really set it off!! Great job to you and all behind the scenes!
Crazy to hear how complex the track sounds, yet so simple when you actually see process. BRILLIANT
You missed the part that comes in under the vocals in the first verse, the quiet detuned sounding plucky synth, haha but thats super picky, this is insane, so cool
Thought that too. I think its a guitar. But really love this element. Even if its in the background it ads Something
Absolutely amazingly talented guy.. Ski thank you Sir!!
2:00 Loving this 180° phase inversion between L and R hahaha
oh, so that's what's up. Even starting at 1:00. It was messing with my head
Yeah, it seems there's some phasing issues going on (I think possibly between the dry signal and the reverberated mic signal)
We had some limitations at the venue and could only get the master output and not split mic/laptop. The phasing is from the stage monitors playing back the laptop audio, interfering with the microphone.
Yes, like I wrote I suspected some kind of issue like this. Great content though!
I've just realised that the crash that he played at 6:45

an alternate band that used the same set of drums in their 2 biggest songs. That's something you just don't see nowadays.
I was waiting for that joint for long time ! thank you guyz Greets from France
There's one sound missing, it's a very subtle melodic sound in the bridge, before the second chorus.
Like that beeping sound?
Time stamp for High hat pattern: 7:27
Clapping sound: 8:28
Amazing job Ski, you rock man!

Where can I download the audio presets?
Classic track, cool stuff
I dont get it: why is he using the controller to play the instruments? Why doesn't he use the keyboard MIDI?
have you considered deconstructing something from tondos expanding head band?
DId he really use the growls as "beeps" on the word "ass"?
Very cool!
Wow. What a lesson.
Watch and learn kids, watch n learn.
Did he just get the drum samples from the original song? Because they sound exactly the same...
Never mind, I just noticed he used the shit quality stems from the game Rock Band 4.
synth arpegio notes/chords??
That Eb Chord is definitely minor.
genius! like for other deconstructions! tks
Love these deconstructions. Any idea what that small keyboard is?
Man I wish I could wrap my head around the music theory part of this more. Did he recognize the scale by ear or construct the notes and then identify the scale?

what machine is he using for the clicky sounds? I WANT ONE also IT IS SO COOL SEEING ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS.. EVER BEING BROKEN DOWN!!
wow that was impressive. nailed it.
Amazing!
Terrific deconstruction as always!! Thanks Ski!
17:14 Im still watching, but I believe a slide was missed there.

How did he get those sounds?
I would be the one guy when he goes "give it up for feel good inc" everyone claps politely and I go.. WOOO!!
Beautiful
Thank you
please change the
second note of the first arpeggio... :)
Great vid, but why is the computer audio quality so bad
What's up with the audio at 1:00? There's some weird sort of phasing thing going on that confuses my ears.
Fantástico Ski!! (always)

Awesome! Thank you! Great guy!
Wow this is incredible love it !!! It’s incredible
Awesome Video and good rebuild of the Original but for me the analysis of the song is missing.. why they did this and that and the music theory behind that
i wonder why nobody noticed, that the polarity of the music is off. flip the phase of one channel, please. voice is ok though.
We had some limitations at the venue and could only get the master output rather than separate mic/laptop feeds. The phasing is from the stage monitors playing back the laptop audio, interfering with the microphone.

deconstruct Sandstorm, pleaaaaase

conveniently leaving out the detuned hula guitar sample lol

Ski's outdone himself on this one
no load on the system but 70°C hot. oh apple :3
haha - and I had a fan cooler sitting underneath! However, I was running screen capture software which puts a strain on the system.
i can do it too in a couple of months...
the computer audio is out of phase ;-)
awesome
This guy has a great attitude. Right Man on the right spot. Keep it UP!
I wish I could get a scholarship to Point Blanck Music School. If not for me at least for my son.
Cool Bro!
Is it just me or does the bass sound kinda different? like more stringy...idk tbh
it does a bit but the mann played it in with Ableton, he did a fantastic job considering no live instruments were used, you get that yeah?!
@@TheDavidKettle he's using kontakt and sylenth1, etc. he could have done WAY better, at first I thought he was going to be using ableton built-in devices, specially since you have so much control for humanizing with kontakt libraries.
clever stuff

I really hope that nobody was on lsd this day
The tree's are listening..🤔
Is this a deconstruction of the song or a tutorial on DAWs for the average person?
both
I did my own deconstruction of the song called blood sweat and tears by BTS. I might upload a video about it
I didn't do the audio things like this but I did a whole lot of theories
should be called 'track REconstruction'
Did the not use The Message for the beat... hence the line... and all they want to hear is the message beat...
