As a current spacex employee I'll tell you this, if you can't speak Spanish you're gonna have a real hard time working at Starbase currently. It's funny watching engineering and manufacturing trying to discuss complicated issues with each other.
This is awesome, if true! If anyone knows the Brownsville area industrial construction workforce, it’s not surprising: truely a “local”project! I would think this is on the launch pad construction bits, though! I’d be surprised if this was true of the engineering and welding and construction done on any of the flying projects.
SpaceX found an incredible momentum with the Starship program and they are progressing stupendously fast. They are showing no signs of slowing down at all. This level of progress is truly never seen before.. I so can't wait to see how Starbase will look like in 2025.
These are the things that make me wish many decades of life just so i can see more and more.. If not extinct, humanity will never cease to expand and explore as much as it can. That's worthy and so exciting to witness!

And for the ones left behind, increasing living conditions mean rising prices. But if so many people are poor, some of them may consider learning some skills and start working for Spacex. Though I think that it may be a hard job to work at Starbase. At least if you are not convinced by the idea of the company.
@@leoh3616 (longish post ahoy! ) I guess I don't get it....from 1998 to 2012 I had a steady job working in a supermarket bakery...no special skills, I got the job through a friend and was trained to do what they needed me to do.... eventually they were looking to get rid of full timers in favor of part timers and I was 2 to 5 minutes late a few times too many and let go. It took me more than a few months to find a new job ( with nothing more than a high school degree and 14 years working in a supermarket )...from there I worked at a literal cupcake factory, an organic pet food producer, a medical device manufactuer and several other jobs. None of them needed special education to get started, just that I be willing and able to show up, learn what they needed me to do, and get good at said job. So if new business is rolling up, and jobs are opening up...well nothing says everyone is gonna live like kings, I certainly haven't, but I've always managed to keep a roof over my head, food in my belly, clothes on my back and keep up with an internet connection and some games/movies and stuff even if low rate of pay or having to shuffle jobs has left me one paycheck from being homeless at times. So again why would SpaceX drawing in more and more opportunities be bad, outside of ruining the slow pace, small town feel the area has apparently had for awhile ( which admittedly might be a thing, several small, outta the way areas around here and they get along fine like that and I could see the appeal )
It is a perfect location physically outside of Florida as it is on the gulf coast with the water to the east. It being less inhabited is also ideal. It is close enough to Houston and Austin to draw high tech Engineers. Texas is in general a great place for that. It will grow over time.

This really is misleading as far as Boca Chica is concerned. Yes SpaceX facilities are located in the sticks, but there are several decent-size cities within 60 miles of Boca Chica. And the area may have its share of economic challenges, but there are lots of recreational activities and plenty of bars and entertainment in the area. South Padre Island, one of the hottest spring break locations in the U.S., is only a short drive away. And if Brownsville, McAllen, or Harlingen aren't wild enough for you, Matamoros, Mexico is just a few miles down the road. And you can bet that housing won't cost you California prices either. You give the false impression that without Elon's Tiki bar and restaurant, all there is to do there for SpaceX employees is to roast marshmallows and sing campfire songs.
Apart from South Padre, Mcallen is the place to go. It's the town to go to for great nightlife and restaurants. Harlingen is a sleepy town. I live here. We don't have anything wild here LOL and most people from Brownsville like to go to Mex.
The Majestic Theater at 7:36 is still standing only to serve as several businesses within. I have been going to watch movies there as a child and teenager. Great memories.

Long shot, the military should fund the research for a reliable railgun instead of the current design which disintegrates after a few shots. Because railguns would be the most capable direct weapon to be mounted on a spacecraft.

Space Force is still just a term coined by Trump during his presidential period, but if Space Force can only truly be established, it need the current president and even next future US presidents to push the idea so that the congress will be compelled to provide even more funding to the already substantial military budget. And there's another problem associated with funding. Here's an analogy: Developing and building a new tank is quite simple, but doing that whilst also creating the infrastructure to support its logistics, maintenance and not to mention the troops required to be trained to use it all the whilst needing the appropriate barracks for the troops and the tanks to be be housed in. Now replace tanks with military-starship. That's the difference between building a vehicle VS a vehicle within a space force.
It's actually cheaper to fly in their workers for 6 months at a time compared to the amount of taxes they would have to pay the state of California for building and testing starship there.

Since then, NASA lost its direction and became less effective, more bureaucratized. Vegas was worthless Desert 80 years ago. No reason starbase can’t be a major city once it gets basic infrastructure. Especially with Elon promoting it.
The hiring process at SpaceX is often incredibly long, sometimes taking as much as 6 months. Once your resume makes it through the applicant tracking software that weeds out 90% of candidates, you finally get to the interview phase. And boy, can it be exhausting!
3X the market price to be offered for residents is more than generous offer by spaceX !! I had mostly seen equal or forced evacuation when government takes over land in many countries for road or railway or other infrastructure constructions.
It might be wishful thinking on his part but I don’t think you’ll attract the talented and skilled workforce to move from California to Texas. Other companies have tried something similar and it never works

Good video, except you missed one critical point. South Padre Island, Texas is way closer to SpaceX than Brownsville, Texas. It is popular tourist destination and approximately 5 miles away by boat from the north side of Boca Chica. I'm sure SpaceX employees would love to live there. In the whole video there was only one snap shot of South Padre Island in the background (@7:33 minutes) that viewers could see. I encourage you to rethink the possibilities when discussing the possible future of a SpaceX city. Elon does not need to reinvent the wheel, he just needs to think about South Padre Island and what it brings to the table for incentivizing employees to move. Also, high-dollar space tourist would want be on South Padre before or after a launch. All that is needed is a boat ferry to shuttle employees and/or tourist on a daily basis.
Yeah, Port Isabel stands to benefit a lot from incoming people but it needs to be mentioned more. I think adding a road connecting Port Isabel to Starbase would help out.

So, use some of the burgeoning tax revenues generated by investment and development (including lots and lots of small to medium-sized businesses) to increase state and local benefits to those who are living on fixed incomes. Some of those benefits might include free or supplemental health care, free entertainment and internet, discounted pricing at local establishments...including restaurants and grocery stores. And tax credits. If they _are_ able to work, offer incentives to cover education and skills training, so they can lift themselves out of poverty and become able to support themselves. Incentivize entrepreneurship and offer guidance on how to start a business and the best types of businesses to start in that local economy. Seriously, people. Poverty shouldn’t be accepted as a permanent condition. Neither should dependency, if one is able to become independent and self-supporting.
Elon is not doing anything for the people of the Rio Grande Valley except exploiting them. No mention of the surrounding communities: Port Isabel, Laguna Vista, Laguna Heights, and South Padre Island. All that land he wants consists of wildlife refuges. He's already fucked up the gulf and the Laguna Madre for migrating birds, endangered turtles, dolphins, fishermen, and surfers.
I prefer to live there, the name doesn't matter. I knew, in the May of 2020 that it will be port for starships and will have school for astronauts. Any age.

This really is misleading as far as Boca Chica is concerned. Yes SpaceX facilities are located in the sticks, but there are several decent-size cities within 60 miles of Boca Chica. And the area may have its share of economic challenges, but there are lots of recreational activities and plenty of bars and entertainment in the area. South Padre Island, one of the hottest spring break locations in the U.S., is only a short drive away. And if Brownsville, McAllen, or Harlingen aren't wild enough for you, Matamoros, Mexico is just a few miles down the road. And you can bet that housing won't cost you California prices either. You give the false impression that without Elon's Tiki bar and restaurant, all there is to do there for SpaceX employees is to roast marshmallows and sing campfire songs.
Apart from South Padre, Mcallen is the place to go. It's the town to go to for great nightlife and restaurants. Harlingen is a sleepy town. I live here. We don't have anything wild here LOL and most people from Brownsville like to go to Mex.
The Majestic Theater at 7:36 is still standing only to serve as several businesses within. I have been going to watch movies there as a child and teenager. Great memories.

A lot of the land around there is a State wildlife management area. Boca Chica state beach is right by the launch pad.

That does sound pretty good, but from what I heard, some of the owners of these properties had had generations of their families living there for a long time and surely they are not too happy to be kicked out of their home.
There was a recent military article (on a UT Austin site) suggesting the US Space Force buy starships for conversion to space cruisers.
Long shot, the military should fund the research for a reliable railgun instead of the current design which disintegrates after a few shots. Because railguns would be the most capable direct weapon to be mounted on a spacecraft.

@@FlyxPat I said 'long shot' not because the technology and the capability isn't there for it to become a reality, but because the congress will almost definitely reject the development of such a highly advanced project. Space Force is still just a term coined by Trump during his presidential period, but if Space Force can only truly be established, it need the current president and even next future US presidents to push the idea so that the congress will be compelled to provide even more funding to the already substantial military budget.
And there's another problem associated with funding. Here's an analogy: Developing and building a new tank is quite simple, but doing that whilst also creating the infrastructure to support its logistics, maintenance and not to mention the troops required to be trained to use it all the whilst needing the appropriate barracks for the troops and the tanks to be be housed in. Now replace tanks with military-starship. That's the difference between building a vehicle VS a vehicle within a space force.

The hiring process at SpaceX is often incredibly long, sometimes taking as much as 6 months. Once your resume makes it through the applicant tracking software that weeds out 90% of candidates, you finally get to the interview phase. And boy, can it be exhausting!
It's not unheard of for SpaceX engineers to work 80-120-hour weeks, although some current SpaceXers say such marathon work weeks are not the norm.

We can only land there every two years because when of the planets align and only 10 of the 50 NASA missions on Mars successfully landed.

Good video, except you missed one critical point. South Padre Island, Texas is way closer to SpaceX than Brownsville, Texas. It is popular tourist destination and approximately 5 miles away by boat from the north side of Boca Chica. I'm sure SpaceX employees would love to live there. In the whole video there was only one snap shot of South Padre Island in the background (@7:33 minutes) that viewers could see. I encourage you to rethink the possibilities when discussing the possible future of a SpaceX city. Elon does not need to reinvent the wheel, he just needs to think about South Padre Island and what it brings to the table for incentivizing employees to move. Also, high-dollar space tourist would want be on South Padre before or after a launch. All that is needed is a boat ferry to shuttle employees and/or tourist on a daily basis.
Yeah, Port Isabel stands to benefit a lot from incoming people but it needs to be mentioned more. I think adding a road connecting Port Isabel to Starbase would help out.

So, use some of the burgeoning tax revenues generated by investment and development (including lots and lots of small to medium-sized businesses) to increase state and local benefits to those who are living on fixed incomes. Some of those benefits might include free or supplemental health care, free entertainment and internet, discounted pricing at local establishments...including restaurants and grocery stores. And tax credits. If they _are_ able to work, offer incentives to cover education and skills training, so they can lift themselves out of poverty and become able to support themselves. Incentivize entrepreneurship and offer guidance on how to start a business and the best types of businesses to start in that local economy. Seriously, people. Poverty shouldn’t be accepted as a permanent condition. Neither should dependency, if one is able to become independent and self-supporting.
That sounds like socialism, they don't do that in America.
Elon is not doing anything for the people of the Rio Grande Valley except exploiting them. No mention of the surrounding communities: Port Isabel, Laguna Vista, Laguna Heights, and South Padre Island. All that land he wants consists of wildlife refuges. He's already fucked up the gulf and the Laguna Madre for migrating birds, endangered turtles, dolphins, fishermen, and surfers.
