I'm a 53 year old cover band musician who played rock exclusively until earlier this year. I never paid much attention to New Country until joining my current band, but Eric Church quickly became my favorite Country Artist. This song is just totally bad-ass!!.....we'll be bustin' it out pronto!!....

If you don't like this song and don't consider it country, you ain't ever scorched a county road in your small town. You've ever felt like the entire world was crashing down on your way of life and who you are. I don't mean the skinny jeans and boots crowd buying rebel flag shit at the mall, the real country boys who are in the back woods tokin up, drinkin up, and trying to stay paid and take care of their families. Not a doubt in my mind that in 20 years the music industry is going to look back and see the album "Chief" and Eric Church as a turning point in country music. We are on the cusp of something new and exciting in music that doesn't happen very often. Similar to the groups that put "Southern Rock" and "Rockabilly" on the map, EC is forging a new trail on his own as opposed to taking a beaten path. EC doesn't write his songs to appease any one genre as much as he writes to PLEASE his fans. EC is going to continue to push the envelope with his music as long as the people that truly matter to him (his fans) keep pushing him. It was evident with "Chief" that EC was thumbing his nose at the Nashville establishment and the Aldeans, Bryan's, etc. that are nothing more than glorified karaoke singers that are acting as puppets for their labels. In any industry, change is a good thing as it provides more options for broadening the fan base. You have your mainstream country with Toby Keith, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley then going in one direction with the pop-bubblegum-country you have your groups like Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, Chesney, McGraw, Bryan, Aldean's... Then going in the polar opposite direction you have EC, Kip Moore, Thomas Rhett, Brantley Gilbert, Randy Houser, etc... These are fascinating times in country music and I'm excited to hear what "The Outsiders" has to offer us die-hard fans. Happy Happy!

You're right, there are other small time guys that sing real country; I'm not denying that. However, they aren't well known and if they do get big, chances are their music will conform to what big time Nashville thinks is in. Very few artists stick with what they love.

GoF Yourself He's singing exactly what's popular now. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of songs by "country" artists today that basically sound like Nickelback, or Nickelback-lite. Singing about being an outsider doesn't make you an outlaw, especially when the only thing that separates you from "mainstream" guys like Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton is the fact that you wear aviators and a trucker-cap.

I wanted to see Eric in concert for years, but it never worked out. Now here I was in a strange new town I'm a strange part of the country where I knew no one. He was performing not only there, but back home. I knew my friends would be going without me, so I bought 1 ticket to go alone.
I went to The Outsiders concert alone.
People seemed surprised I came alone and asked why? As if I was I did something wrong.
I was felt like an outsider. I didn't want to be there alone. I didn't even want to be living there. I cried on my way home.
Class of 2014 dedicated that to the group I roll with. We wear it with pride! Lookin back on life I don't wanna say yeah I had the opportunity to do that.

I watched an interview with Mr. Eric Church, in which he stated he dose not believe in the classification of musical genre's there for He is just plain and simply a musical artist doing what he dose and loves, and you must admit he's damn good at it, times have changed and not everyone likes change but anyone who is a EC fan knows that he is only trying to better himself in the music world and trying to out do his last albums, which in my opinion he has done.
