I have to disagree with the comparison of Fedor to modern fighters. Heavyweights today have 20 years of improvements in training, nutrition and coaching to draw from that Fedor did not have. The direct comparison across decades is flawed for MMA because the sport has evolved so much over the years.
Only thing I dislike about the izzy/pereira discourse are the constant comparisons being made even after alex moved to 205, everything pereira does, izzy fans are like, "just how good is izzy?", poatards are like, "haha 9-1, dogbender sux"
Sorry to tell you but fedor was legit combat Sambo world champion beat five former UFC champions . You’re telling me you think tai tuvasa would beat him ? Shamil one minute of cardio gaziev? Derrick Lewis ? Cmon man at the time he was fighting he was fighting the best people in the world yeah he wasn’t a big heavyweight but look at DC. Neither was he and still managed to win the heavyweight championship. Also Randy Kouture at the age of 43 who was basically the same stature beat up a 7 foot Tim Sylvia to win the championship. I know Tom Aspinal was good, but he ain’t undefeated. Don’t forget that and I’m not talking about the flute injury loss that he has obviously somebody out there whooped his ass and his losses are by stoppage.💯🤷🏾♂️
Im not a fan of izzy but if he didnt exist pereira wouldnt be in the ufc and thats a fucking fact. You spoke about how pereira made his debut in 2015 ,but he got choked out , had 2 more fights in 2016 that he won and went back to mma, his next mma fight was in 2020 in november, izzys interview was from march 4th 2020. If izzy didnt exist his path to the title would be a million times tougher , the ufc wouldnt sign him that easily and he would have to face guys with better grappling who would give him a tough time. But im glad thats not the case cuz pereira is the most entertaining champ in the ufc.

The whole point of the interim is to be champion IN THE INTERIM that the champion is hurt. So, Tom SHOULD take a fight while Jon is out. BUT, Jon should be fighting Tom on his return. So STIPE should fight Tom NOW and who ever wins fights Jon. But THAT is where the problem comes in. If Tom beats Stipe then Jon cant fight Stipe and that is why this is a sham. But NOT because Tom should fight Jon next but Jon should fight Tom next. Tom needs to take a fight regardless. He is the Champion IN THE INTERIM that the champion is hurt. This is not an INTERN Belt. It is an INTERIM belt. Tom is champ only because Jon is out. But when Jon comes back he should fight Tom. OR Stipe if Stipe beats Tom. They are skipping that part and its wrong. And nobody can judge what Jon is doing based on Jiri and Jamahal did. Because they did that and should not have. They regret doing it I bet. They thought they could just get the belt back. On the night that Alex KO'd Strickland, Izzy had already said he would fight Alex if he won and after Izzy's boring fight with Cannonier, it sealed the Alex Pereira fight as the UFC and Izzy knew the Pereira would force the fight out of him. #2 Pride Fighters suck on average and they all had PEDs and some fixed fights, but Fedor also competed at Bellator and the average HW in the UFC pre Stipe was not skilled. I do think Fedor would give JDS and Cain a run for their money. #3 MMA is less predictable than other sports because of the amount of hidden injuries and training camps that MMA fighters have. Fighters come in with injuries or hiderances and hide them. Elevation and jetlag affects fights big time. These are elements the NHL, NFL and NBA largely don't deal with.
