I’m NOT an amazing player, but I did come up with it. My first instinct was to use the knight to put the king in check, but there wasn’t really a follow-up. Then my second thought went to the pawns and finding the best way to win promotion or at least give the rook a clear path to check. Knowing my skill level, I more likely stumbled onto that solution rather than deduced it with superior skill, but I’ll take it :)
I am glad you figured it out! For me, I didn't approach this position like a puzzle. They may be why I didn't get it. I just thought the best move was to put my rook on the open file (and never really questioned it). I should have calculated the more forcing move. Thank you for watching! :)
I'm glad to do it! I love showing chess puzzles and donating half the money to charity makes me feel like I am connecting to a greater community and making a small difference. 🙂
Its hard to say how I found it.. but I think my process with puzzles is to just throw out random moves that look like they'd work and go a few moves deep. I dont really go more than a few moves deep until I exhaust this method, so I don't usually get lost on crazy tactics if there's a simple answer. In this case I looked at the board and the first thing I saw was stuff like the knight and rook moves, but there wasnt anything immediate stemming from that that I noticed, so I moved on. Then I looked at pawn takes pawn. But then the rook takes! Ok what about pushing the other pawn. Nah they just take it for free. But then the file is clear to push! Ok what if they dont take it... and so on. If that didnt lead anywhere I'd probably move to looking at all the knight moves in more detail.
alright hear me out... i found it... by checking what move would be the dumbest / funniest. Like "imagine it's a4"... oh shit it could be a4!! i'm not that good at the game, i got lucky there

Knowing that, "Only One Move Wins!", i found it fast.😀
That definitely helps! I was looking at this like a regular position and just thought to bring my rook to an open file. Nice work! :)

I like how you outlined your thinking. Thanks for sharing your thought process and for watching! :)

Haha, that's one way to figure it out! I didn't even really think about it at all. Thank you for watching! :)
As an Intermediate Chess Player, a4 was an easy-to-spot move for me.😏😎
I am glad you were able to find it! Thank you for watching! :)
