This song is a masterpiece because everything about it fits both Thursday and the genre. If you actually pay attention to Geoff's vocals closely, in a variety of songs, you'll find he's actually quite a talented singer. Personally, being a long time Thursday fan, his voice is a breath of fresh air compared to the same old melodies you hear today
geoff is no way a "good" singer , but he is the perfect singer for this bands , just like the used, dead kennedy's its more about the tones and message then being on key and perfect leave that to pop singers
I beg to differ sir. Geoff has expressed his vocal expertise on many songs that I would be happy to point you to. Admittedly his voice is one that takes some getting used to if you are a newcomer to Thursday. However, once you get a feel for his range/style, he is in a league of his own.
I just saw them live. Geoff delivers a stellar performance and captures the sound of the record perfectly. He may not fit the classic sense of what society/people think a "good singer" is but he is definitely consistent and very talented. Lots of heart and what seems like imperfection on record is executed perfectly live. Totally recreated. I have a new found respect for the guy. And as for the "untrained ears" comment. It's OBVIOUS to point out what you're pointing out. It's a lot harder and takes a lot more experience to differentiate and uncover what is truly above average and what is below. There are so many factors and variables. Just because he doesn't fit your criteria doesn't dub the ears of someone who enjoys Geoff as "untrained"
Kevin Li I'm a music major and I still believe he is an amazing singer. Definitely not in the classical sense, but as a normal performer he is above par. I saw Thursday last Tuesday and they were even better live then recorded. The man is a true performer, something a trained or untrained ear can pick up on.
shoutout to the bass guitar and the keys for making this song sound so miserable (and so good). also nominated for best song/video combination. the video perfectly encapsulates the misery in this song
WOW my God, WOW just. This hits me so hard lyrically and this video is so well-done! Just so good and I really only listened to Thursday's first two records for all these years! This song gets me high on life! Thank you Thursday
Any band that can tell a simple story so powerfully deserves recognition for that alone. THIS is a masterpiece in its genre, love it or hate it, it did what it set out to do and did it very well. 22k views is merely a sad commentary on how shitty our music tastes as a whole has become.
I see a lot of complaint in the comments about a lack of melody, and harmony in the vocals...I think that's the point. There are 2 singers, 1 in the first verse, 2 in the second both with two equally discordant sections. This song is meant to sound....chaotic so it makes sense that the vocal melody (and yes there is one...actually several) is slightly off kilter. To say Geoff can't create a melody is ignorant of, not only the intentions of this song, but their music in general in which Geoff crafts some very unique and effective vocals. This is not a band for people who like mainstream music really. They purposefully set out to not make "hooks" and "singles" but to write a song that makes sense artistically, not economically. If you don't like it, maybe you're just too used to cookie cutter bullshit.
@@gimmegamma4849 hella and piglet have absolutely nothing to do with Thursday. I'd go as far as to say math rock like that is pretty ridiculous like "oh look how tricky I can be". I had years ago enjoyed those bands but tastes have changed.
@@Blindside23 i simply said if you wanted non mainstream music then try them. i can find pockets with both hella and piglet so i've always been able to follow, piglet especially. imo, hella has nothing to do with piglet musically. piglet is way more commercial in sound and easier to follow. why did you choose to respond to a two year old comment anyway???
I saw Thursday last night for the first time and holy crap man it was so good I’ve known about them since I was like 12 and liked them but know that I’m older I feel like I can really appreciate them more and man that show was awesome
I always think of Cursive and Thursday synchronously although they definitely are way different than each other. I think older cursive and older thursday are much more alike than say this song and "mama im swollen" or another record of the same era
All these ppl talking about books: This song hits harder when your family member ruined your whole childhood with his h addiction and the lyrics were a daily occurrence in your childhood home
An absolute perfect portrait of my brother. There's no way I could have said this better myself. I played this for him the last day I saw him. he cursed me out and walked away. I haven't seen him since and I'm a better person for it.
haters gonna hate. this music is intense, complicated, intricate, insanely emotional and hard to digest, but it speaks to some people, BRO. green day's for sure one of the biggest sellouts in music history. and least geoff rickley channels his emotions into something unique & creative and not whiny little bicth-fits against i-heart radio.
@cheatcommandos14 We’ve talked about turning Thursday into something else: a non-profit, a band that only records sporadically, a collection of other projects… Underneath it all, the personal circumstances involved make it impossible to continue Thursday in the spirit that has made it special. So, we stop. For now, at least
They were just way ahead of the curve. A lot of people didn't get it. I'm just glad I saw them when I could
Thursday is soooooooooooo underated
a tribute to naked lunch.
This song is definitely a hidden gem of Thursday. Quite possible the best song/video.
Samsonuel. Don't forget jet black new year
Don't forget every other song 😅
You should check out the rest of their stuff.
what video??
Bros from years prior. I've loved all their albums and my comment stands.

We were at the same show! Saw them at The Wiltern last Tuesday :D
Great show. Agreed!
Great tune - I haven't heard it in years. The song takes on a much more powerful meaning after reading Someone Who Isn't Me
Just started reading it.
Still a timeless masterpiece in 2019
This chorus in this song is so damn epic.
shoutout to the bass guitar and the keys for making this song sound so miserable (and so good). also nominated for best song/video combination. the video perfectly encapsulates the misery in this song
Tim Kasher backing vocals are a nice touch.
Thursday has a lot of powerful songs but this one hits a nerve man.
WOW my God, WOW just. This hits me so hard lyrically and this video is so well-done! Just so good and I really only listened to Thursday's first two records for all these years! This song gets me high on life! Thank you Thursday
The intensity they produce and emotion at there shows is more powerful than any of these new bands by far ,
I'm a huge fan of Thursday, how have I only heard of this song recently
No idea, I remember when this came out in 2007.
Same here man
His voice is so melodic yet so raw at the same time.
2020 still gives me goosebumps on the chorus

if you wanted non-mainstream music listen to hella or piglet...maybe even aphex twin or death grips
@@gimmegamma4849 You missed the point.....
Dominic Gallegos I didn’t

I remember this song changing my life in high school lol
That makes me feel SOOO old.
def one of the most creative bands of this era
One of my favourites, wish they could have made an entire album like this song!
Poison The Well - Tropic Rot
Why did I just discover this song today? Where the fuck has this song been??? WHat the holy fuck!!!!
Best song by Thursday ever! I'm listening to it the whole day.
damn this is intense. i feel like this is more intense than bands who try to be excessively heavy because this is somehow more "real" sounding
Listen to hot cross , saetia or Joshua fit for battle
I was never a huge fan of Thursday, but this song is great. That final part is so strong and conflicted, and I get chills from it.
BEST SONG BY THURSDAY HANDS DOWN
thanks thursday for making good music.
My Chem’s doing a show with Thursday and I’m happy.

I love Thursday 2021 & forever more.
probably one of my favorite tunes from them ever.
I saw Thursday last night for the first time and holy crap man it was so good I’ve known about them since I was like 12 and liked them but know that I’m older I feel like I can really appreciate them more and man that show was awesome
This is going on the list of best music videos I’ve ever seen

I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Despite it all I love you brother.....-____-
Love Thursday. Love this song.
Tim Kasher FTW!!! Oh yeah and Thursday. lol
I always think of Cursive and Thursday synchronously although they definitely are way different than each other. I think older cursive and older thursday are much more alike than say this song and "mama im swollen" or another record of the same era
One of the best Thursday songs and an awesome video
It’s incredible that it takes someone years and years of the experience of hell to relate to this song
This song has it all..!
looks like that was a fun music video to make
This song rings so hard in my heart. My brothers I love to death but are total fuckups.
Thank you, brother.

Most people don’t know what this song is about. But those that read and watched naked lunch know why this is a top 5 song of thursday’s.
This song is a special kind of depressing
This song completes me
7.5k views, seriously... best posthardcore band ever, please.
im glad i saw them and recorded their final new york show =]
note to self, don't watch this video before bed. or do, and have some screwed up dreams.
Geoff: Ooooooooo ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh everyone you love.
Me: (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
God this hurts as I am the brother that’s failing
I had to take loratadine after seeing this video. My rhinitis couldn't handle it.
100k club. Here's to 900k more!
Story of my life here.
The Naked Lunch connection is strong with this one
omg HD :D
I'm so happy I got to see them live before they broke up
Hey. Does anyone know any way to stream the DVD documentary that came with the deluxe version of this CD? I can’t find it anywhere in the internet.
How does this only have 8,000 views?
God its been years since I've seen this.
Kill the house lights, was released 2007 from what I'm aware.
My Poor Brother *------'
All can see when I look at Geoff is Andre from The League, but wearing a wig.
So…no one’s gonna talk about those bugs
All these ppl talking about books: This song hits harder when your family member ruined your whole childhood with his h addiction and the lyrics were a daily occurrence in your childhood home
RIP one of the last good post-hardcore bands ;_;
Inspired by Franz Kafka?
This world is corrupt but I'll be calm. That sellout beiber came up as a related video... I'M LOSING IT!!!!
He never sold out if he didn’t make good music to begin with, lol
Imagine trying to explain this music video to someone who's never seen it.
An absolute perfect portrait of my brother. There's no way I could have said this better myself. I played this for him the last day I saw him. he cursed me out and walked away. I haven't seen him since and I'm a better person for it.
i'm sitting here trying to figure out why this only has 1,585 views.....
Thumbs up for the "Naked Lunch" references!
@forevermusic2000 hahahaha i knew why as well and was going to tell him the same thing, but you beat me to it.
sad song
Ayo Geoff and Tommy - I love y’all . But what u did to that roach was wrong.
That was wrong
@jpdrummer1000 because the video was uploaded to TH-cam like a year ago
William S. Burroughs
What album is this on

❤️
My bros song for me🤣
its so sad how i found out how good this band was actually is, at the worst time after they broke up
Marry me geoff?
How'd that go? I'd probably go gay for the guy myself Lol this is just too perfect of a song and video, love their discography
I'll never get to see them live.. being young and liking good music sucks :(
There’s still plenty of good music being made if you care enough to look for it, sweetheart.
You have to read Kafka's Metamorphosis to actually get this music video.
totally agree... that book blew me away- like this song
