  • Many international medical graduates (IMGs) feel that opting for working in the UK as a doctor is a second rate choice, or not one good at all until one becomes desperate. We found a lot of the reasons why IMGs felt this way was due to the five misconceptions outlined in this video.
    So join Dr. Ibreez as she clarifies the myths that keep IMGs from thinking about working in the NHS.

    Assalam u Alaikum! Hope you're doing great.
    I just wanna ask some questions to clear my mind.
    1) Does your PMQ marks count while applying for PLAB/GMC registration/training in the UK?
    2) Do supplementary attempts count in the above mentioned paths or become a hurdle in your career at any time in the UK?
    3) Asking about myself, I had a gap of 9 months after my one year internship as I got my first job after that. Now I'm having an 18 months clinic experience in my home country. Do those 9 months count as a gap?
    Your response is highly appreciated.
    JazakALLAH in advance!

    hi, thanks for the very nice and informative video
    just a question regarding getting the permanent residency after 5 years of working.
    if someone left the UK during the working period - let's say for a month to visit his home country - will this affect him negatively from getting the permanent residency?

    Hi :) thank you for explaining all these, it is very helpful however I still have some doubts, I have read so many complaints coming from IMGs about working in the NHS, for example the salary is not enough and even taxi drivers earn more, or nurses picking on them, or they say health system is not really as good as everybody say, so I would like to know your opinion about this. Do you think it is worth it to go through all the process to get GMC registration?

    • @RoadToUK
      @RoadToUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) We have a video discussing the salary and even going through the payslip.
      2) here is the salary for taxi drivers: nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/job-profiles/taxi-driver
      3) we have discussed dealing with bullying but there are more videos to be out soon on the topic
      4) there is a video of Dr. Ibreez experiencing the system when she needed surgery
      At the end of the day the decision is yours to make, but we like to think we have covered all the things most would want to know.

    loved this video. however i would like to point out one more reason why medics prefer US over uk. its the final take home salary after the training is completed. Uk doctors even after completion of their training are paid almost half as US doctors after completion of their training. How true is that?

    • @RoadToUK
      @RoadToUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are working on a video to discuss that further :) There's a lot of misinformation related to salary in the UK unfortunately.

  • @apuk79
    @apuk79 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason a US IMG ends up in the UK is because of a failure to secure a US residency due to a combination of the following factors 1) low scores/failed USMLE steps 2) Going to a doctor factory Caribbean Medical school where you buy the MD for extortionate fees 3) Poor quality LORs that should be highlighted also. In any salary comparison whether by Medscape an attending in the US in whatever specialty will outperform their equivalent in the UK easily e.g neurosurgery attending on average in the US 600k+ imagine that in the UK unthinkable nowhere close. That is why US is always first choice for IMGs

    This channel is so pro-UK and anti-US, almost to a fanatical degree.
    The NHS is great but far from perfect. Can we have a video about things you don't like anout the NHS? Talk about the 1% pay rise or the monthly threats of a strike by NHS workers, etc.

      Never called the NHS perfect- in fact have several videos stating the opposite. But when you have experienced the US system and now the UK system, it's natural for comparisons to arise.
      Is there anything mentioned in this video that is false? No. So what's wrong with clearing misconceptions?

      @@RoadToUK And from my understanding your experience in the US is not that bad. Can you Imagine me Dr. Ibreez.... I have been trying for 6 years to match in the US and no hope. I am almost in depression...The US took away all my beautiful years, all the money that my spouse is working so hard, I am not enjoying even my kids because of all these stress. Here in the Us is all about connections that's it. These people that are feeling offended for the US maybe haven't tried yet or are in that little percentage that have succeeded ( with connection of course) . Thank you so much for all these videos. Probably because it’s bullshit, the junior doctors had a strike in 2016, the first strike in 40 years, the nurses last had a strike in 1999 and the 1% has been increased to 3% and is still in negotiations.
