  • Here's a 500AT doing 4 minutes of alert. This siren was first discovered a few years ago, and it's been on my record list ever since. I unfortunately got stuck in traffic on the way up, and Sherburne County decided to test nearly 3 minutes early so I didn't get my zoomed out shot/audio recording set up until a few seconds after it activated. (That's why the audio changes shortly into the test.) The video is also a bit overexposed, which was somewhat intentional because I was hoping it would make the chopper more visible. I also have no idea what moved my tripod right before it shut down. It was pretty windy, but I've never had anything like that happen from just wind alone and I was nowhere near my camera at the time.
    Spooky...
That aside, this was seriously awesome to see in person and while it wasn't the loudest siren I've been to, it was definitely one of the coolest. I'd rate it a 6.5-7/10 on the loudness scale. This is one of 3 500s in Minnesota that we know of, and it's the only dual tone version. I also think this is the only 500 still in use that doesn't have any rotation issues.

This has to be my favorite siren, the sound of 9/12 port rotating sirens is amazing, favorite siren video so far!

I never knew I lived so close to a 500AT!! First Milaca with THREE ACA Screamers on it's 1st tower, then finding out about a 500AT in Zimmerman in the neighboring county I didn't even know about! Nice!! I live about an hour away but it's still close enough from where I am to where I could actually get there pretty easily if I wanted. I live not far from the Thunderbolt 1000T on Stacey Trail just entering into Lindström. Chisago County has some pretty good sirens in it, Chisago City, RSH-10 Thunderbeam at the Fire Department and an STH-10 a couple blocks down near that primary school. There's also an STH-10 in North Branch. Center City has a Fetelcode Model 3 and Taylor's Falls has a Model 5. I've visited almost all the sirens in the county, including the Whelens in Wyoming and Rush City plus most of the 2001 units aswell. Chisago is about maybe an hour away from the Isanti, Mille Lacs and Sherburne area, give or take. I love the wind down of this siren and the ambience of the 2001 units winding down. I unfortunately will probably not be able to hear it go off in person any time soon, but it would be cool to see none the less when on my way to visit relatives.

Nice vid! There’s actually four 500’s in the state - this, Hayward, Roscoe and Westbrook.
