    Thanks for the wonderful plan link - I'm building mine right now, to the delight of my best friend, who is Japanese. He's looking forward to seeing mine fly soon. Much appreciated.

    At 2:17 you can see a small turbine pump on the left landing gear. I am shocked at the detail. Your details drive me mad.

    Just so beautiful, don't know why a rubber band flight does that! Maybe it's because we can feel it.

    Very interesting info. I am slightly amused by the fact that the 1st Japanese Navy fighter was designed by a bloke called Herbert Smith, albeit with a team of 7 other folks.. I guess cool morning air can make a glide steeper, if there's even just a HINT of downdraft, than warm.. A stunning flight from an equally stunning model. I love those card stock louvres. A great weight/detail exchange! 👍

    Odd that it would change flight pattern after all those years. Looked pretty good under power to the left, but as motor wound down, looked to straighten out or even go right a bit. End of flight glide was definitely steep, but no harm done. Nice to bring out an old bird that hasn't been up in the air for some time. I'll bet you have an attic full of retired models that would love to see the skies again. Cheers!

      In 2010 she was in the Air Venture Museum at the EAA for a display about free-flight modeling, so I cleaned her up, removing all of my trim tabs etc. When I flew her on Thursday, I started out clean and let her determine the path.
      Might still flip her to the right so she climbs better against the torque, but only if that soft grass is still at Wawayanda. Fun bird to fly.

    Tom, you answered my prayers on this one. I’ve been meaning to ask you for two years when will we see this bird in the air again. (It’s high on my to-build wish list.) Now you know it’s about time you got its little sister out, too... More flying please, we luvvit!

    • @maxfliart
      @maxfliart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was very pleased to find that she took to the air, the circle, very quickly. That's a pretty large windmill on the nose, however, so perhaps that's why she dove a bit steeply in the glide. Like having a large umbrella out front.

    Beautiful airplane, nice flyer, incredible attention to detail. It's got to boost your heart rate more than just a little to let her go, but she proved to be a sweet craft. Well done and thumbs up.

    For those who are curious, here are the complete six flights by the 1MF1 on that day, with a few words about the trim effects.
    th-cam.com/video/e-z02FD5Fr8/w-d-xo.html Not your typical "Anatomy of a Trim Session", as their weren't too many adjustments, but I was simply going up the ladder with winds to monitor her reaction to torque.

      Actually, I'm fairly pleased with the results of my efforts. Building light, straight, and strong are my primary concerns.
      Flying well and looking good while doing it!

    Do you have a tutorial for how you make this style of prop? Also, what do you use for the little brass button behind the prop where the shaft passes through the thrust plate?

    • @maxfliart
      @maxfliart  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not specifically yet, although the process shows up in a few of my 'start to finish' films. I hope to make a tutorial film this year. Thx for the reminder. The brass buttons for the nose are vintage, no longer available, but u can make them by drilling thru "four prong nailheads". Search the web. I show them about 40 seconds in on this Basics film #4. th-cam.com/video/sJkmyBo9zrg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KSk09IWvPduuPFRB

    One aircraft I'd never heard of: looks like an S.E.5 spin-off: how was it possible to obtain plans for what has to be an accurate rubber-powered scale-model of an obscure plane ( the only plans I could get in the late '50s were for near-scale models, usually with oversized tail-surfaces, instead of anything faithful to the real thing)?

    • @maxfliart
      @maxfliart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All I can offer is the plan I made of the aircraft, using a somewhat simple 3-view as a guide. Tail surfaces were enlarged a bit for f/f stability. www.hallmanstudio.com/mitsu_plan.pdf
