@@RCPlaneAddict you can put CROW on almost anything if you have an 8 ch tx and 6ch SAFE rx. it only requires each aileron to be on its own channel. I put it on my Swift recently. This lets me set flap position 1 to 0% if I want half-flaps and 30% toward the flaps up value if I want 1/3rd flaps (200/70=0.35). I put the transmitter's flight modes on the flap switch (D) and enable the aileron and elevator F-Mode trims in the trim menu. I almost bought this plane I wish I did now, just the maiden flights on my viper 70 n my 1.2 June nites p51 and gotta say they are awesome love the smaller p51 compared to the 1.5m p51 it’s like the carbon cub compared to the timber x, so easy to fly and land and still just as fast and fun. Also How did you get the crow option?
Thanks for a great video, you have inspired me to add flaps to my Multiplex Funman. I was getting a bit bored with it so flaps will add interest. Is it possible to set up Crow on a Dx9?
I'm a noob. I have the FMS Kingfisher. I love the flaps. I recently received the FMS T28 800mm and I'd like to add flaps. This video was super helpful. Does it matter what horns I use? There does seem to be any horns specifically listed for the T28.
Hey, awesome plane and video. Quick question, I have a timber x and it is one of my first bigger planes. I have a dx6 as well. How do I bind it to the transmitter so that I dont have to use the bind plug and go through that annoying process each time I fly?
Great info and thanks for another good vid. Have you ever flown the BushMule V2? I see very mixed reviews on it buts a sexy little plane. We all appreciate you and camera crew. 👍🏻
Thank ;) I haven't flown the BushMule V2 or V1...we don't really work with Hobbyking, but they DID approach us, but we didn't like their terms, and the quality is regrettable hit or miss, in my personal experience, so we figured we'd get that all out of the way with our Dynam reviews - LOL ;) LOL ;)
Hi Brian, Jeff here, a long time Hobbyist and craftsman here of all kinds, plus an actual pilot, just starting into RC airplanes. Years ago I bought the balsa model airplanes that you used the U-cable to fly, I’ve purchased the Ranger as my first rc airplane. I’ve watched multiple videos you’ve done and the most recently the Ranger. You spoke of having flaps and I also watched this video fly with the flaps and would like to see if you have a video showing the process you took converting the actual airplane with flaps. You may have mentioned it in this video and I’m going to go back over it, to see, but thought I’d see if you’d respond… I just finished putting the Ranger together and getting ready to install the Receiver with your video at hand… Little nervous about that. I’ve also been using the Real Flight 9.5s flight simulator using my NX10 transmitter to hopefully learn how to fly the Ranger… Actually, been taking it out of safe mode and making my landings now… So, I am getting really close to my first solo!! Thanks for all you do, Jeff
Just thought of something else I should have mentioned earlier. If you could maybe post the links of the items I will need to make the conversion...I do not have spare parts as of yet. But I'm guessing, 2 servos, the horns and rods, and y-cable and the tool that makes the bends in the rod in one press... Thanks again, Jeff PS after reviewing the video a 2nd time, won't need much instruction on adding the flaps and servos by just the short narrative you showed on this video.
This was a strange project I did this for and with my friend Esteban, a fellow RC flier, so it was done off camera. This is a RARE time where I didn't share the whole process. I'm sorry for this J M! Parts are pretty straight forward... (2x) 9 Gram Servos - I like these - Emax Servos amzn.to/2KNstdw Music Wire - amzn.to/3ue7B3z (or something similar - paperclip might even work) "Y Splitter" - amzn.to/3u4AWx1 (Pick what length you think you want) Foam SAFE CA - amzn.to/3DENE9a Kicker for CA (Sets it FAST!!!) - amzn.to/3u3Y1Qm I trust you'll have it done in no time. I have loads of videos where I setup FLAPS on the radio, but you can actually follow along on this RANGER 1.2m video, since we DID share that part of the procedure ;) Welcome home to your RC enablers ;)
Hi Brian. Would you rather have the ranger or mini apprentice for learning to fly on. Also, my son wants the 1800 size to learn. What’s your thought on the big one compared to the 1.2 version. Thanks
Okay, good question! 1800mm is a lot more plane...you need to seriously consider the fact that you will have more battery and more plane to crash into stuff....ie, you'll be paying to fix a bigger dent in the car - LOL - but seriously what about the 1.5m Apprentice? It's kinda the "middle ground" but to be FRANK - I LOVE THEM ALL. bprc.me/Apprentice bprc.me/FMS_Ranger | bprc.me/HH_FMS_Ranger I would consider the 1.2m Ranger in the RTF, see how things go, then work up to the 1800mm Ranger, just keep in mind, you'll need Transmitter, Receiver, Battery, and Charger for that one...so it'll be a big bump in price. That's why you might consider the RTF for a beginner choice.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for your answer. I ended up getting the 1.2 ranger for my son to learn on. Question about the electronics. It comes with the xt60 connector. If I put a spek ar630 rec and I use a spek smart battery, will I still get any of the telemetry on my radio. Thanks
Thanks! The GlaStar should have had them, HANDS DOWN...I get the TA7 NOT...since it's a flapperon plane in real life, but no flaps on the GlaStar - What were they thinking!??!!
Just bought this. I have a Reflex Gyro system not installed yet. As a beginner, should I use the gyro or is this plane easiest enough to fly without gyro?
Hi Brian--- Great Videos for newbies. Could Crow be setup on a UMX Turbo Timber using an NX6 transmitter? If it could, would Crow even be an advantage, or totally unnecessary on this plane? It looks like the Ailerons are already plugged into two different places on the receiver, so could it all be done in programming?
I'm currently unsure what to do with my aileron servos for my turbo timber evolution and just realized my umx turbo timber evolution has a left amd right channel...adjusting the servo throw might just give the umx crow...
It's on there, just like every plane (100%) over 250g AUW that I own...and NO, I will NOT point it out either. I never make a point to do the devils work in helping the Feds over-reach. I follow their idiotic policy, and will fight tooth and nail against any bureaucracy that intends to take freedom from us. This is just another stupid side effect of our out of control government making idiotic policy that doesn't work, shouldn't exist, that they can't and shouldn't be enforcing. For GOD SAKE, we can't even have a border....why are we expected to publish our private compliance credentials in a public manner for all to be able to copy? Such foolishness. Don't even get me started. P.S. Not mad at YOU...mad at THEM....but also, I don't generally talk about it here, since I don't want to be liable for giving legal advice. Hope you understand.
I just bought a AR630 reciever a while ago and stuffed it into my FMS Cessna 182 but i'm not able to get the stuff working how it should. Maybe you or someone in the cmnts is able to figure out what i do wrong. After setting up *D/R and Expo* and *Trottle Cut* i did bind the plane. Than i do the following: I go to *System Setup/F- Mode Setup* and choose switch A (it's a 2 position switch b.c. i like to have one mode with safe and one without) I name both modes and can see that they change if i hit the A switch. Than i go to *System Setup/Channel Assign* (It says Channel Input Config) I set Gear to A and anything else is set to N/A (i can't change anything else than Gear here) than pressing *NEXT* so it says (Rx Port Assignments) I set 5 Gear:Gear and 6: AUX1:Flap Now i hit BACK so that my Radio is in it's standard mode where you can steer the plane and if i hit "A" now, it will show me the 2 different flightmodes on the display but also set the flaps from 0 to 100 and back to 0 if i toggle "A" again. If i scrolle down in this *Function List* i can open the option *Flap System* and i have than set Switch B for flaps but "B" won't do a thing and "A" will still change the flight mode and also change tha flapsmode between 0 and 100. What did i miss here? Do you maybe have a video that shows a full setup with safe for a pnp plane with flaps?
It WILL. You have to work quite a bit to do it, but you CAN do it. Now with the stock Rx, but you have to rewire the ailerons...taking out the Y Splitter.
With a lot more effort. Setup the wing type to Flapperons or Flaps, and then make goofy mixes - I DID it with Esteban's transmitter, but it was a 1.5 hour endevour.
You should make a video on how to install flaps when there's really not a place for flaps but there can be flaps...reason I'm asking for a flat video is because I'm trying to install flaps on my HABU STS but there's no spot for me to cut out flaps but I know you can cut out flaps but I really don't know how to unless I cut the piece out and then just put hinges in
He's done a number of flap mod videos in the past. I think he put them on the MOA and Conscendo to name two. Just search his videos th-cam.com/users/BrianPhillipsRCsearch?query=flap%20mod
Dallas - flaps are super easy to install, but you have to have a PORT from which to drive your servos...so TEST THAT FIRST - then you'll know you can make them move when you're done. It's not hard, and you CAN do it!

@BrianPhillipsRC as an RC flying newb and these mods give slow flight performance, why don't trainer planes come with this in RTF? Is there a way to do these mods with an RTF version?
Brian, another great vid. Thank you for sharing. I will have to revisit this to try crow on a plane or two. Again thanks, and keep up the great work!. Cheers.
For sure! Glad you can get the help you're looking for here. Crow is so cool, and SOOOOOOOOO easy now - it used to be way harder on the older Tx'es and Rx'es.
When i try setup crow, the ailerons move on opposite directions. I have not been able to figure out how to fix this. The normal aileron steering direction is correct, just the crow goes in opposite directions
Flip the MIX direction...so if you are setup for -100 and 100, make it 100 and -100, or if you flip the direction of the FLAP SERVO, and then go into flap mode and flip the polarity of your takeoff and landing settings, you will have it fixed.
Good question. Plane will BALLOON when you deploy flaps. This prevents the ballooning and helps to slow down the plane. Best thing to do, don't set it and see what happens. You can learn a lot this way.

Thanks for a great video, you have inspired me to add flaps to my Multiplex Funman. I was getting a bit bored with it so flaps will add interest. Is it possible to set up Crow on a Dx9?
i like it when you are flaps happy, plane or lips.
I'm always into Flaps ;)
You shouldn't have to to it each time...not sure what's going on.
I was crying when I heard “your stick has a vote but |Safe| has the winning vote” 😂
Well he is not wrong, I suppose that is one way of putting it.
@@RCPlaneAddict so true and funny.
Glad you enjoyed it ;)
Just got a fms let 13 1500mm . It has no flaps and dosent want to land . Would love to be able to have some crow to help with ground affect.
Yeah, we added this and it was real fun addition to the flight envelope.
Thanks for all you do,
Jeff
(2x) 9 Gram Servos - I like these - Emax Servos amzn.to/2KNstdw
Music Wire - amzn.to/3ue7B3z (or something similar - paperclip might even work)
"Y Splitter" - amzn.to/3u4AWx1 (Pick what length you think you want)
Foam SAFE CA - amzn.to/3DENE9a
Kicker for CA (Sets it FAST!!!) - amzn.to/3u3Y1Qm
I trust you'll have it done in no time. I have loads of videos where I setup FLAPS on the radio, but you can actually follow along on this RANGER 1.2m video, since we DID share that part of the procedure ;)
Welcome home to your RC enablers ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC do the plastic pieces with holes that go into the flap itself and the plastic link on the servo come with the servos?
11:40 What Brian ment to say is... chicks dig rc pilots.
having fun are we?
yes ;)
It's kinda the "middle ground" but to be FRANK - I LOVE THEM ALL.
bprc.me/Apprentice
bprc.me/FMS_Ranger | bprc.me/HH_FMS_Ranger
I would consider the 1.2m Ranger in the RTF, see how things go, then work up to the 1800mm Ranger, just keep in mind, you'll need Transmitter, Receiver, Battery, and Charger for that one...so it'll be a big bump in price.
Thanks
Hey Brian do you have a link to a video showing how you set up CROW to a 'DX8gen 2' mixing. Thank you 🙏
I would like to see the 850 with flaps also or the Glastar too !!! lol Great Job BTW!!!
Use whatever gets you flying ;) (Seriously - I don't care what you've heard...use EVERY advantage to get in the air)
Would love to see something gas powered on this channel. Do you have any older videos with gas planes? Any type of gas
I have two gas powered planes, but no plans to fly them. Grandpa left them to me when he passed away.
Thanks to your comment mentioning that. I'm incredibly curious now
Great job, but where's the external FAA registration?
Than i do the following:
I go to *System Setup/F- Mode Setup* and choose switch A (it's a 2 position switch b.c. i like to have one mode with safe and one without) I name both modes and can see that they change if i hit the A switch.
Than i go to *System Setup/Channel Assign* (It says Channel Input Config) I set Gear to A and anything else is set to N/A (i can't change anything else than Gear here) than pressing *NEXT* so it says (Rx Port Assignments) I set 5 Gear:Gear and 6: AUX1:Flap
Now i hit BACK so that my Radio is in it's standard mode where you can steer the plane and if i hit "A" now, it will show me the 2 different flightmodes on the display but also set the flaps from 0 to 100 and back to 0 if i toggle "A" again.
Didn't you already review this?
Yeah, this is a mod video. We added flaps and crow ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC ahhh I see
Would crow work on the valiant? Great video as usual. The best out there!!!!!!!!!!
It WILL. You have to work quite a bit to do it, but you CAN do it. Now with the stock Rx, but you have to rewire the ailerons...taking out the Y Splitter.
Do you have to just take out the y splitter for the 1.5m turbo timber evo to enable crow?
And give each aileron a separate channel?
Do you have video making those flaps?
Hallo Brian,
Wolfgang
I ordered it so it will be by me in like 2-3 days
AWESOME!
How do you setup crow on a NX8
Thanks for pointing this out Sno ;)
Dallas - flaps are super easy to install, but you have to have a PORT from which to drive your servos...so TEST THAT FIRST - then you'll know you can make them move when you're done. It's not hard, and you CAN do it!
Thanks Brian. Your the man
Hi from Michigan - What camera is your camera lady using when shooting the plane flying? Cool plane & demo. 👍
Hi. We've always filmed on our cell phones... whoever has the most current on. Started on a Galaxy S3 and have used an S7, and S9 and are currently using a Galaxy S21 Ultra. Thanks for being here!

Wow
I agree!
Hello brian love your videos. Hello camera crew great work. Im just starting out and i have nx8 and flightline p38 lightning 1600mm. Ive not seen you do video on that plane and im having little trouble w set up on p38. Would it be possible to do a video on it. Hey if you dont have that model it would be a great excuse to get it. Cause you want to help a really nice viewer. Lol . thank you for all your info and great videos your friend chris.
I would gladly do that plane, and any other plane MotionRC would send, but they won't work with us.
Tell them you want to see us review it before you buy it ;)
@BrianPhillipsRC as an RC flying newb and these mods give slow flight performance, why don't trainer planes come with this in RTF? Is there a way to do these mods with an RTF version?
It wasn't the worlds worst landing. I am the King of shitty landings. lol
LOL - Nice!
Dummy question, why do you adjust the elevator when you use flap?
Good question. Plane will BALLOON when you deploy flaps. This prevents the ballooning and helps to slow down the plane.
Best thing to do, don't set it and see what happens. You can learn a lot this way.
Hey I'm #2 Again! 🤣
Kinda stinky ;) LOL
You said you weren’t going to put flaps on this one?
Did I??? I can't remember ;)
👍
thanks!
Ok Im very new to RC. Your video was very helpful however you focus on viewers who have some experience at this. Your video should have covered unboxing, setup with EVERTHING in the box and not what you like! Still lost on setup with what comes in the box (S4 control/receiver/). Cool your jets, you can fly but feed us beginners on setup based what comes in the box.

There's an Unbox, Build, and Radio Setup for this plane.... I'm gonna go out on a limb and suspect you were having a bad day when you made this comment.
Please let me know when you get this information and you've had a chance to look it over.

Why doesn't my fms ranger have flaps?
It’s true. There’s always that 1% of flocks who really dont understand the hobby lol
True ;) Wish we could all just ignore their insanity, but everyone want's to give them room to ruin life for everyone else.
