On the consistency point, if someone qualified with a lap time half a second faster than you a lot of times their safety rating will tell you if its worth battling them and risking your race.
1000 % agree with all points ! 😄 game changer for me was when i figured out you race for a couple laps or when the situation calls for it , rest of the time you drive consistently
Another great video Jack. I like what you said about Hot lapping and maximizing your track time. I seem to always try to better my lap time but in reality it's as good as its gonna get and I should focus on for me at least certain sectors of the track I'm losing time on.
Use all the track. This allows you to carry more speed into and out of the corner. Check your replay, see whether you are using the whole width on entry, check the apex speed compared to each line in. Practice off line for defending and attacking. Then DON’T overlap brakes and throttle. Wait until you are fully off throttle before braking. You will overheat your tyres if you do this. Turn off your comparison lap times unless refining your lines etc during practice. Never race with it on.
I applied your tip about the force of the brakes from your last podcast and reduced mine from 100% to 90% and it's nade a big difference because now I'm more confident braking later into the corner. Thanks for that. Something else I'm also focusing on is brake balance, when the car has brake balance, this has also made a huge difference when I find the right balance so that I can trail brake without losing the rear end from the rear wheels locking up as I turn into the corner.
Thanks for that Jackzer. Very interesting and useful. Ill revisit this when me wheelbase gets back to me from Fanatec. Practicing driving off the driving line sounds like a great skill to develop and brake bias is something I will have to study more. Much appreciated video man! Love the setup by the way. Those Bessel hiding yokes would be cool Id say. Not that I have triples, I only have VR but I have done the wind sim and base shakers and they are really fun and add a lot for a good price.
For me when it comes to consistency and finding my pace I find its a really good idea to just turn off the lap delta. Like you say you're distracting yourself from the most important part which is the driving. Since I've turned it off my consistency has gone from several tenths between laps down to less than a couple of tenths. Another thing that I feel it does it stops you from chasing any losses in lap time from mistakes which cause you to overdrive the car and lose even more lap time. Now i just don't bother with it at all and my results have gotten so much better. I'm new to iracing, basically a month in but I'm out of the rookies and class D in the ovals, sports cars and open wheels, with wins under my belt in all pf them. All without not actually having a drivers license in real life even though I'm now 47. Thanks for another good video and for being one of the youtubers that have inspired me to fully commit to sim racing. Maybe one day I will catch up with you and see you in a lobby in the future.
Omg, I misspelled Practice, You know what, I'm going to blame me keyboard. Yes.... damn keyboard... 😂😂😂😂 At least I caught me first hehe he Thanks for watching guiiiis
@@RacingRespite I left that one in on purpose just for you XD, FR tho, I need to slow down when typing and editing, I get in such a flow, where I just type a word in 0.3seconds and just be like "Ahh Im sure it's good" Lol
Great video 😊 I would add: Learn how to calibrate your pedals correctly. Both brake and accelerator, deadzones, min and max values etc. Had a chap who was running with only 98% accelerator max and the brake was on a min of 1% always on... so continually dragging brakes and no way to hit top end with 98% accelerator 😂 Wondered why he was so slow 😅
I saw this title and had to send it to my teammates as a joke 😂 fr tho these are pretty helpful (it seems like I didn't watch cuz you posted 4 minutes ago lol, I skipped through it i promise)
In addition to no.1, after running a full practice tank, use an AI race as practice also. iRacing AI is still stupid half the time, but a practice AI race before an actual race week is beneficial, especially in open series.
@bigbangeroony I'm glad you liked it buddy 💙💙 (Actually it's half a second gained if you subscribe, but I don't tell everyone otherwise they'd beat me in races. 🤫)
Idk if you’re the right person to ask, but for some reason my consistency in gt3/f4 is very good, whereas gtp I am similar in terms of avoiding spins or off tracks, but I get into way more car to car crashes. Do you have any advice? I know you talked about practicing against ai/friends, but I feel like most of my gtp crashes are just wrong place, wrong time. I could be wrong though so idk
So 2 things 1 definition of insanity doing something over and over the same way expecting a different result. Don’t be affraid to try different lines in practice as your lines may not be the fastest. 2 surround yourself with drivers faster than yourself and practice with them to learn what they are doing. You will become faster in the long run
Best tip for a beginner : Be humble (you have much to learn) Best tip for a sunday driver : be humble ( have fun and keep cool) Best tip for fast drivers: be humble ( practice smarter not harder/get coaching/garage 61) Best tip for aliens : stay humble and be a good ambassador for the sport Best regards M.Tuck Nordic Racing 12years on iRacing
Heres a tip. Get ready to have the worst tire traction model to ever exist in a sim. If these tires were to be used in real life there would be law suits left and right.
dude i didnt know iracing had proximate cause i 0x pixel touched a car. he didnt even gain speed. then (not because of my tap that was over a second prior) he missed his braking point and hit someone, and i got the 4x lol... people fighting so hard for near last place on nord will never fail to amaze me
I'm using VR so overlays are actually off at the edge of my vision which means I have to actually turn my head to view even just the black box overlay. Even at the start of a race, I have to tilt my head up so I can clearly see the starting lights, so I don't know how useful overlays would be for me because I would have to keep taking my eyes off the track to look at them. I've already run off the track a couple of times because I've looked down into the right hand side of the car to view the black box screen. Quite often I don't even know the names of the drivers around me because when the racing is close I don't want to look down to view the black box overlay because I'm worried I'll cause a crash.
Bonus tip: Enjoy your time in the sim, do not get frustrated. It is a game only.
It’s not just a game😎
@@EliasWEC hehehe 😆

My tip is to have patience, which ties into racecraft. Don't rush your overtakes, take a few laps to figure out where to pass someone.
I put together my rig late last night. I’m getting ready to slap some gears and am truly giggling like the 12 year old me on the G25 !!

Got my first couple of races in last night after being sick. Had to get a couple SF Light at Monza!
