In 2011, one year after surviving brain tumor surgery and 2 years after losing my wife to cancer, I was chosen by my tribe to ride from Georgia to Oklahoma on the Remember the Removal Ride (the Trail of Tears). I sang this song to myself the whole 3 weeks and 1000 miles. ....back on the road, alone with the sky.... Thank you, Peter.
Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of the passing of my wife. I have listened and viewed this video so many times I can’t count them. Somehow it speaks to my loneliness and even perhaps the hope for tomorrow.
Im so so sorry to hear that mate, im so pleased though to hear about your glimmers of hope for tomorrow, Earth and the people need you my brother, I'm sending all the good vibes i have, keep moving keep rebuilding, we are all here for you
@@TheLeon1032 thank you brother. The support of good people is all we ever have. I have little grandchildren that I could never leave , but the support of kindred spirits makes the journey so much lighter.
So very sorry for your loss, I am a widow too and it is not easy. The only thing I can compare to is an ocean wave, it comes and goes. Don't ever think it's wrong to remember and with time it will be easier, they are always with us. God bless you!
Mate so very sorry from the bottom of my heart. Cannot imagine what you are feeling, but, remember we all don't know each other but I just hope in some way I can take some of that pain for you. Peace my friend
I have seen Peter Gabriel concerts on 3 continents. To this day there is no other performer, with his stellar band members from all over the globe that has made such a spiritual impact on my soul......A true genius. A masterful songwriter. An angel of sorts. His music will live on through time and space.....
I was 15 in '72 when I first heard Peter with Genesis, on Foxtrot and I instantly recognized his genius and his music stayed with me through the decades, with each album adding another facet to his art.
For sure. I can't believe seeing him solo "Here Comes The Flood" on Kate Bush's Christmas Special. He looks like he's 20-25, but looks like he's seen an entire lifetime of sorrow. Of course he crushes it perfectly, and was also already out of Genesis at that time too!
I love how Peter Gabriel's voice never changes, never wavers. Time doesn't affect it, and it makes no difference if he's live or in studio. It's pristine.
I proudly saw this tour in the flesh and was on the same side as Peter as he left the stage for the Blind Boys to absolutley shine. Main reason he did so was to have himself fitted with the harness in preparation for the next piece Downside Up, featuring him and his daughter Melanie singing literally... upside down!
Such a punch in the stomach..... Peter Gabriel is an immense artist, kissed by inspiration and sensibility.... Plus the Blind Boys of Alabama to hit you straight at the heart. Wonderful😍😍😍😍😍
TO ME, PETER Gabriel is the best song writer I have heard ina long time. The only songwriter and singer that I have loved is Laura Nyro who died a while back she's the only one.7
I had the honour and the privilege to be at this tour, and see the blind boys of Alabama sing, watching this reminds me just like been sat in the NIA in Birmingham, seen this again 100% perfection
This song is truly amazing! What makes it even more amazing is to have been able to follow Peter Gabriel from his roots in the original Genesis group formed 1967 in England. You would never recognize him except in his most creative moments. Always throughout his career he would continue to stretch the limits in all realms of love/hate; joy/sorrow; remorse/forgiveness etc. etc. No social angst has remained untouched within his music as he has challenged all social institutions in one way or another. He has been my greatest inspiration especially in times of great need and depressed spirit!!!!!
Well I was too young in 1967 but I know what you mean. Discovered Genesis when I was 15y old or so, loved him (and Genesis) ever since. There is hardly any other voice that does that to me.
Beautiful, the way they appears, they are stars, the way Peter Gabriel quit the stage to let them shine and every musician turned toward them. There's also a subtlety when they exist the stage: having them still seated and descending underground would be like treating them as toys, but them quitting the stage walking is another story, a very positive one for disabled people.
Such a perfect performance. Peter Gabriel and The Blind Boys of Alabama. There are so few live musical performances that can compare. The positive energy of the song. Makes me happy to be alive, to see this.
Agreed! I know this album didn’t have big hits like So did, but this album and tour were a masterpiece and is my favorite one he’s done. To this day I hear something mew every time I listen to it.
This song always reminds me of my Father-in-law. Not a song he would have liked but it played in the car as I brought my young Daughters home after saying (what they were unaware) was their last goodbye before he died of cancer a few days later. Always breaks my heart to hear it...
Dear Mr Johnson, sorry about your loss a great moment shared with this genius musician . Love remembered! saw this live at Wembley London in 2004 we are still married!
My husband loved this guy! From early 70's until he passed away in 2012. The day after my husband, Pete, left this world I was crying, sitting in front of the computer. I'd just gotten a Pandora account and really hadn't had much experience with it. Out of every song out there Solsbury Hill (Pete's number 1 fav Peter Gabriel songs). I said out loud "if this is you honey that's all I need to know you're okay". After saying that I had the most bizarre feeling that washed over me. Goose bumps everywhere, hair standing up from my head, back of my neck and arms and the most euphoric feeling.
I.love this song so much. Keep listening to it over and over again. One of my favorites of Peter. Can't believe I was fortunate to see it live 2 times ❤️
He's infinitely creative...and grateful! And he's always finding the best musicians. Tony Levin, PG's loyal bassist, gave meva whole new respect for that instrument! Chapman stick played with funk fingers...wahoo!
I always liked PG's voice, but I kinda lost track of him after Genesis and his early solo albums. I thank a higher power that I found him again in the 2000's with "Secret World Live" and subsequent DVD's. I don't know how or what kind of magic some music posesses, but when it makes you tear up, (Mercy Street, Sky Blue) you know it's special. His talent is and range is nothing short of amazing. I have lost track of how many times I have watched those concerts. Thank you PG. 10/9/19
Riding the waves of energy through time ,space ,bursting as celestial Stars ,power immense while harnessing the intensity of the given moment ,connection n peace for eternity , the given.
Peter Gabriel is an unsung musical genius! He's a total original and his music grabs your soul! Sir, can I PLEASE perform this song with you before I leave this planet?
Well I can only disagree with you on one thing - "unsung" is not a word one can associate with Mr. Gabriel in any way. You may be "unaware" of his contribution to the musical culture, but that is on you. There are about 500 million people who know....
I did attend two of his concerts, including this tour. I tell you, the positive energy of this man is amazing and when the whole crowd comes together for the finale of "In your eyes" you feel elated and part of something bigger. Its just pure joy and I feel thankful and amazing for having that memory.
I'm working from home, on my own little doodles, since 10 years now. My wife loves me. I'm in good health. I don't have anywhere else to be, really. And yet, I'm crying at every note of that song, because it feels like I've been travelling ever since, so many miles far from home. The scream comes from below, deep down, as the road goes on. Peter always shape the right beautiful song, to dig in our dirt.
🤔 IDK why THIS beautiful 💖 performance version of the 👍 song doesn’t have more views and comments (and recent ones too)? IMH 70ish y.o. opinion, it’s a lovely, soul touching rendition of the original - which I also like. Peter is a talented artist, both with Genesis and as a soloist, as is Phil Collins!
Superb. I was fortunate to have gone to this show at the United Center in Chicago. Went with a girl named Cassy. Both truly spectacular. I'll remember both forever, I'm sure. I also remember the crowd especialy loved the hell out of bassist Tony Levin.
My first and only time seeing him was this tour. BBOA opened with a couple songs and were great--very inspirational. When this song concluded there was hardly a dry eye in the place. Amazing voices.
Peter Gabriel has always been such a unique songwriter, singer, and performer. Many super talented musicians from the Golden Era of Rock. Peter is the Mozart of our time.
Every verse and arrangement of this verse makes me so emotional to tears. I watched this show for the first time, in 2010. Every time I watch again, it colors my life 😍

I saw this concert in Chicago on a rotating stage and it was amazing. Peter Gabriel I had been gifted by my best friend good seats and he was one of my favourite musicians since age 12 and I finally had time off work to go and The Blind Boys from Alabama were so deep and touched on a level that brought tears to my eyes; it was so peaceful and calming and deep that meshed with their blues and Peter and this was my favorite song they collaborated with Peter on, but I bought their CD the next day. ❤ I had all of Peter's! 😍
how have I missed this?? Incredible, Peter Gabriel you ARE the best and we all send love and peace to you since you bring it to us daily and we love you
Amazing! Amazing! Great concert, amazing production, great performer! The view is revealed fully only on DVD, on a good screen with a good sound system! Peter Gabriel - The Great Master!

What a perfect song in connection with that tragic enforced journey of the people…. Thankyou for sharing
Like a true professional and a true gentleman, Peter Gabriel leaves the stage and lets the Blind Boys of Alabama shine! Respect!
fuck me! never noticed this... amazing!! thanks for pointing that out :)))
👍🏻👏🏻😊❤️
Thank you for your words! I feel the same
he berated the audience in Phoenix for not paying attention to them in the way he wished
I did not see it as well, thanks a lot for pointing this out. (for the curious it's happening at 5:22 )

My dad and I watched this concert. He is gone now and this is the first time re watching this, Miss you dad so much.
My Dad today, has moved into my home so we can help eachother. Your comment has made ne realize Im lucky to still have him.
Im sorry for your loss. ❤️
How could a song this magnificent emerge from a mere mortal?
I love how Peter Gabriel's voice never changes, never wavers. Time doesn't affect it, and it makes no difference if he's live or in studio. It's pristine.
I think it's better live as it's more raw and raspy

No word can ever describe such beauty.
The final part of this song always makes me goose bumps
Thank you Mr Gabriel. For all.
Take care of you and your family.
We love you
It is a moving interpretation.
I was absolutely blessed to see this performance live and it was moving. It brings tears of joy every time.
I was blessed also, I saw this performance live too. Extra, Extraordinary!!!!
Saw this tour 2nd row...omg
Such a punch in the stomach..... Peter Gabriel is an immense artist, kissed by inspiration and sensibility.... Plus the Blind Boys of Alabama to hit you straight at the heart. Wonderful😍😍😍😍😍
What a concert this must have been. It's so moving
Yes, it was truly amazing - the best concert I’ve ever been to. I sure wish you could’ve experienced it too.
I remember the show like yesterday. Saw Gabriel and band play in Rotterdam, featuring the Blind Boys of Alabama as well.
Here I am in 2020 wondering if we can ever return to this level of soul in music.
God i hope so we need something to look forward to

It certainly helps a person from becoming depressed!❤
I heard In Your Eyes as a kid and that was that, life long fan here!
This tears my heart out. What an amazing artist. This is art.
Rest in peace Clarence Fountain (one of the founding members of the Blind Boys of Alabama)
