- CBS News Miami's Jim DeFede devotes the entire half-hour to social media influencer Alex Otaola, who wants to be the next mayor of Miami-Dade County.
The candidate, who is 45 years old and came to the United States more than 20 years ago, has built a media empire by hosting his own Spanish-language show on TH-cam with nearly 700,000 subscribers. While there are a lot of people who may not know who Otaola is, politicians seeking the Cuban vote know him well and have been courting him for years.
Otaola understands English but came on the program with his translator because he prefers to speak in Spanish. The two discuss, among other things, why he is running and thinks voters should elect him. They also discuss some more controversial things surrounding the mayoral candidate.

Todos al llegar , sentimos ese mismo sentimiento al momento de enfrentarnos , al idioma Ingles.....pero Otaola , lo entiende muy bien y está comunidad del Condado Dade, son en gran mayoría Hispanos hablantes , por lo que no creo imprescindible en este caso que Otaola , tenga que Imperiosamente manejar el idioma inglés en su totalidad , es decir que a mi modo de ver , es más importante la voluntad de hacer de Miami Dade un lugar de orden , bienestar económico , plenitud de vida ,etc, etc para todos los pobladores y para comenzar habría que hacerlo desde lo más simple y lo más importante, es eliminar todas las corrientes socialistas, comunistas y demás, que crecen como mala hierba... y quien mejor que una persona como Otaola .

Pay attention to Otaola’s face during the interview. He was not prepared for probing questions. In some parts, he looked frustrated because he wanted to explain with more words but had to rely on interpretation. I would not even like to be in his interpreter’s shoes. Other bilingual candidates would have shined, but Otaola stunk.

From my point of view, you cannot run for a position for which you are only qualified to deal with social and public issues that concern only one social group, be it Latino, Cuban or any other social, ethnic or racial group. How can you want to be a public servant for a county in which more than half do not understand Spanish and even worse do not speak the language that predominates in the United States?
