Hey thanks for reading my "you might be autistic if" about the fireworks! I wanted to give a little more context around it. When I was a kid and through high school, my father was a part-time pyrotechnican. I used to enjoy the fireworks shows that he put on. I live in San Francisco now and there are so many illegal fireworks going off this time of year. They happen unexpectedly and we live on a cliff, so they are often shot from below and explode at window-height. I have had trouble reconciling my enjoyment of fireworks as a kid with my absolute hatred of them now. I realized after a trip to Disneyland where I could see the fireworks launching that it's the surprise of the loud noise and the violent chest vibrations that come with fireworks just outside my window that I hate. We were far enough from the Disneyland fireworks and I could see them launch, so I could anticipate the experience. I wore ear defenders at Disneyland. I don't generally wear ear defenders in the house -- except on July 4!
I was a child as your dad said went through life undiagnosed until my 20s and I cried when I finally knew what was I don’t want to say wrong with me but I knew I was different and my dad could not believe I could hear a dog whistle it herts my ears I have sensitive hearing
