Good question. I have visited the areas of Philadelphia where those things happened, though, and they are beautiful and well taken care of. Huge tourist area.
The greater Philadelphia area is very sharply segregated by income. Part of the explanation is that the wealthy neighborhoods and suburbs fight off building affordable housing. Another part of the explanation is that SEPTA's transit service in the city is so extensive and cheap that it attracts poor people to concentrate in the inner city. There's a good report by Pew Research Center analyzing all this.

You weren’t even safe in your jeep that neighborhood and Kensington is a total disaster that the city government uses to their benefit to look good only when they need to. The high crime, sex trafficking and drug trafficking and use make it the worst Aras that you will encounter in your lifetime. I’m glad you got through it all and lived to talk about it. There’s still a show going on from the new Mayor that is dissipating. Please never go back and if you do please take an armed legal person to escort you and make sure you go home safe, not even police officers want to be in those areas. Thank for the video, I’m so glad you got out alive and with all of your stuff and jeep.🙏🏻

North Philly, Kensington and most of West Philly were sketchy even back then, but nowhere near the dystopian nightmares they have become.
Thanks for explaining how you got the stats on the most dangerous cities! I guess that Philadelphia Freedom song must have been the last thing on your mind!
Until recent I spent a lot of time in the US and it is surprising how many swathes of it are turning out like this. Even NYC is going backwards again. Sad to see, but you have to blame those in charge.
Wow! I must live a very sheltered life because I’ve never heard of this Kensington area. On our last visit to Philadelphia we wanted to go to the Mutter Museum but could not find a place to park anywhere nearby. The drivers in Philadelphia are also some of the worst I’ve ever seen in this country.
You are braver than I am and I’m damn near fearless
Joe and Nicole People will be watching these videos for generations and how you maped out the united States is incredible love and respect
Thanks for this, Bobby!
Hey Joe, I live in Philly, no where near this armpit, I’m 5 minutes away from the burbs, actually, it’s a nice area we moved to from Mayfair 4 years ago, I would have liked to meet y’all, hopefully you visited the historic area of Independence Hall and such. Philadelphia is a very old city, poverty central, not all parts of it are like this, there are nice areas, like every other city and towns, there exists a crappy part, y’all know this! Happy trails, and be careful out there, you WERE in the Badlands, that’s for sure!
We're in Philadelphia quite often, as this is where Nicole's family is from. For the record, I've done a video of Philadelphia's awesome places, including Independence Hall and City Hall. It's on the channel.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip 👍🏽 Happy trails!
19:40 mighty micks boxing gym from Rocky on the left here and the bar from Rocky 5 across the street bottom left corner.
Group of people congregated outside the bar. So sad to think that gym is empty derelict like this. Why won’t the city council or someone make this a museum or something that’s mighty micks !!!!
This mood in here is everything!
There is no way I would have walked in that area. Would have driven through. Please be careful.
And I thought Camden nj was bad folks 😮but this place is at a whole new level by itself folks 😮
In these neighborhoods, just stay in your jeep
Please don’t get out of your car in a high crime neighborhood. I had a bad feeling when you got out.
Make sure that you are always cognizant of your surroundings!!
I would have snapped if someone would’ve touch my camera.
Hello freind good morning thank you for sending beautifull video
Greatting from macau china
Stay safe Joe. That was a little bit scary
