The world was crazy growing up in the 1970's, but there was still some goodness and good times just being home with the family and friends. I'm glad this show reflected some of the very best parts of my childhood, even though I'm not African American, my best friends were. This show will always remind me of how great life could be.
The 1970s was such a good time to grow up, people actually cared about each other but there were good and bad times, overall the 70’s was about family, friends, movies, music, love and barbecue every year for July 4, tv shows like this one, good times, Incredible Hulk, Sanford n son, the night stalker
Gotta love the "BOW" in the background! At least I do! Question for all: Was Rerun ever in an episode of this show where he didn't have food? Seemed like he was always eating and drinking something. Anyway I was born in the mid '80s and I remember it being on and watching Rerun and the gang in actual rerun mode in 2005. Saw quite a few episodes it was good.
WCSC in Charleston, S.C. aired What's Happening!! reruns in spring to summer 1998 (when the show was on Sunday afternoons on Ch. 5, I was in 5th grade at Black Street Elementary School and in the boy scouts in Walterboro, S.C.), very few episodes used the 1976 Columbia Pictures TV Sunburst and the 1992 Columbia Pictures TV 90's Torch Lady (the one with the 1988 music) in some episodes. I miss those days. I still know 1998 like it was yesterday.
It looks like an up/down duplex to me. If I am correct this was probably a '2 over 2'. Two bedrooms over two bedrooms. Both front doors are on the porch. Rerun's would open directly to the stairwell. The other would have you walk straight in to the living area.
I think what I like so much about this opening is that as each character is being introduced their personality is clearly reflected as the credits roll! And I still enjoy watching Rerun running after the truck. Hilarious!
WCSC in Charleston, SC aired that show 22 years ago when I was in 5th grade and in boy scouts in early to mid 1998, very few episodes used the CPT sunburst and the 90's CPT Torch Lady in some episodes. I miss those days. I still remember 1998 like it was yesterday.
i grew up watching this show. this and fat albert were the shows i watched about black youths but anyone could watch and enjoy. in my small town there were no black people whatsoever. so, this is how i learned about there are other cultures.
YES❗These were the BEST of the "Good Ol' Days"❗You could leave the TV on when the Preacher was visiting and not worry about Ugly comments embarrassing anyone! The "Rev." would likely join in and watch too❗
WCIU in Chicago aired that show 20 years ago, very few episodes used the CPT sunburst and What's Happening Now used the CPT Coca Cola Torch Lady in some episodes. I miss those days. I still remember 1995 like it was yesterday.
if you are still alive try T.V. archives its insane like when youtube had chi chis and like weird stuff but incredible amounts of awesome too, downloadable music, hardware, I guess thats what its called , its cool.
Yes, the 1st 2 seasons had the late Mabel King of the film The Wiz as Mama Thomas and the 3rd season was also the final season without Mrs. Thomas and Roger, Dwayne & Rerun were all starting college
I always wondered why did everyone had a decent single family home except for Rerun? He look like he was living in a Boarding House! And out of all of them the only people that had a parent or parents were Raj & Dee...WTH?
Back when black people were happy and didn't bitch about racism and being a victim, and when living in the hood was nice and not uncommon to see a Rolls Royce drive by.
I totally accept the opinion of a white man whose analysis of the condition of living in black communities Is based on a sitcom from a decade before he was even born.

Great show, love the intro.
I was born in the early 80s and I can appreciate this show. The theme sounds great
Awesome intro, a nice youthful energy about it..
Rest in heaven both Fred Berry, Shirley Hemphill, and Mabel King.
They were the heavyweights of comedy. No pun intended.

What's Happening is a Hilarious Family Sitcom!
I really like how in the 2nd intro for the 2nd season they included Dee and Shirley and Mama.
rerun running after that pickup is the funniest thing ever
At a gig in Sacramento, Mabel King came up and sat-in for a couple of blues standards. Really good voice.
JP Till You Met Her??
what happens! was one of favorite t.v show of the 70's. It clean family strong/morale values, they don't make these shows, no more, I mi the cast.
I miss simple & good shows like this. Grew up on WH and loved it dearly.

I do! It was one of my favorites! :)
I love that Raj was like 26 or 27 IRL when the show started Dwayne was like 16. I think Rerun was 24.

Look at the house Rerun lives in. It looks like a big fucking nice house.
Yeah, I like that this series showed that not all black people were like the Evans family on Good Times.

Shannon Sharpe alluded to that recently in *FIRST TAKE.*

I LOVE THESE VSIES
Old School 👍Damn, time moves too fast!
yes. those were fun times.
Raj reminded me of my oldest brother, and Dee I wanted to slap upside the head. Then she'll be telling Mama.
Armoured Skeptic brought me here.
Memories!... And TV sucks today lol
What was that "bouncing" instrument in the background??
0:12 He reminds me of Cookie from Ned's Declassified.
Any idea where that green house we see in the opening credits is located? Is it still standing? Just curious.
Watts L.A. idk if it's still there or not.
1343 Tamarind Avenue, Los Angeles
old school speed
Wonder what Mama said to Dee in this intro 😂😂😂
Family Guy Brought Me Here.
Can someone find several copies of episodes of "What's Happening!!" from ABC, local syndication, BET, and TV Land?
It's currently shown on two cable channels: AntennaTV (weekdays) and TV One (Saturdays).

The world as change now every thing is rasismo before we used to talk words were words I love this show we were happy going to school
This was the 2nd intro!

Better organ solo in season two

That's how it is in most inner cities. It is protraying a side of American culture.
macreal65 no remember dwaynes dad was like a city official and he had a mom in the home too
And correct me if I'm wrong, but Raj appears to live in a different house than Dee and Mama. At least in this sequence
