  • Johnson&Johnson Tecnis Synergy IOL is a presbyopia correcting IOL, which allows patients to be free of glasses and to correct astigmatism is needed. What is real-world experience with that lens, compared to trifocal intraocular lenses of any type such as Panoptix, or EDOF lenses such as Symfony or Vivity here in this video.

    Hi Alex I appreciate your videos, I’m 23 and had a monofocol lens, I’m having really bad refractive errors and experience halos and starburst around every light source. I need distance glasses to see in the distance even doe I have a monofocul lens for distance. So I need glasses for reading and glasses for distance vision which is very frustrating but also halos and rings around lights do not help do you know why this is occurring thank you very much

    Hi Alex, thanks for educating us, there is no other channel that talk IOL in this depth like you do. I am quite new to opthal and have learned a lot about different IOL from your video. But it seems like most of the IOL you talk is either Alcon or JNJ. Do you have experience with other brand like Finevison, At Lisa or Occulentis, why are they not favourable? I'm seen them being used a lot in my hospital.

    Thanks Alex. It was after watching your earlier videos, that I made my choice of going for Tecnis Synergy instead of Alcon Panoptix, though the latter was what my surgeon was recommending because of lesser experience with Synergy. I did go through your earlier video in which you have explained why Synergy performs better in dim light conditions. Although the user experience was lesser, I decided to take the risk of going with Synergy after consulting with my doctor. So far it's good. In my case, the only thing which is not so good is the intermediate vision acuity. Distance and near are fine, but intermediate is still fuzzy. Although I do tend to see rings around lights at night, however that never was a problem for me since I wa used to glare from before. In fact it was another of your videos in which I got to know that even with natural lens you can get to see glares from lights because of high myopia and dry eyes. So the rings are there but I am already neurally adapted to them and they're not a bother. After 30 years of wearing glasses I am free of them. My left eye was operated in Dec 2021. To prevent anisometropia I am using contact lens in my right eye. So far so good. Thank you once again for your videos, which in my opinion provide the best input for someone like me in choosing the right IOL.

      Thanks a lot for your comment, and for sharing your experience!
      What is intermediate and near distance in your case? If you know it from real measures, but not from feeling.. it may give an answer about fuzzy intermediate. This should not be an issue with Synergy.,. Any way, I am glad that you are happy with your vision for now!

    very interested to hear your explanations.
    please could you advise what IOL you think best in my case.
    I need good distance for driving,and good intermediate for computer and clerical work, but I also need good near vision for my job(electronics) to read part numbers of components and for changing them on circuit boards,some parts need to be done under microscope.
    This is daily activity so cant compromise.
    However i know that full multifocal comes with risk of glare and halo,which I have a big problem with.
    my opthamologist suggests eyehance with undershoot -0.5d in dominant eye and mini monovision(-1.25 near eye).but worried also about lack of stereo and depth when using microscopes.
    any thoughts?

    Alex, congratulations! Another awesome video! It was watching your videos that I chose Symfony for my first eye (right - dominant). I was fascinated with the quality of the lens and, even though I knew it wasn't a lens for near vision, I took a chance. With it I have excellent vision from 60 cm to infinity. I am 63 years old and I have developed core cataracts in both eyes, making me myopic. When I opted for Symfony, I didn't really realize how much I need near vision in my daily tasks. Now I'm about to have surgery on my second (right) eye, and as my ophthalmologist assured me that I don't have any problems with my eye, other than a cataract, I'm thinking about getting a Synergy for that other eye. I don't know if this mixing of lenses is going to be a good idea? Would you like to comment something? Thanks! And keep up the wonderful work you do!

    My doctor recommended Synergy which I did in my left eye about 3 weeks back. My near vision became perfect N6 could read the fine print, mobile & laptop with ease which was +4.75 with glasses. Even though distance vision with this lens was 6/6 but found the far distance vision was not so good, could not read road signs & experiencing halos/starbursts during night driving were highly disturbing. Though Synergy was recommended by my doctor for the right eye, I decided to go for Eyehance after reading a lot on net. This experiment turned out to be a good decision, my far vision improved considerably & near is N6 was 4.5 with glasses & halos not disturbing during night driving. I have got rid of glasses after 30 yrs(now 73 yrs old). Dr, don't u think mix lens should be used more extensively to get better results?

    • @iol-adviser

    Hi Alex. Why so many patients are not happy with senergy? I am sure the material of senergy is superior to panoptix and has no degeneration issue in long term. But why patients seems more happier with panoptix. Please correct me if I am wrong. And do you have any opinion regarding senergy toric for bad astigmatism? Thank you

    • @iol-adviser
      @iol-adviser  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Sam.
      I do not know any patients from my experience who are not happy.
      However, there are a few reasons which I assume may explain what you have seen on the internet.
      1. Synergy lens has to be perfectly calculated and placed to achieve the best of its performance. Perhaps doctors who start with lens never worked with Tecnis platform and failed to do it right. Moreover, the way of calculation is different from well known Symfony, and it might be a simple mistake of a surgeon.
      2. It is really the best lens in class, thus a patient's expectations might be raised to an unrealistic level, and as a result, a person might be not happy with it, despite clinically superior results.
      3. I noticed specific activity from bots under my videos (my professional channel for Ukraine with some professional videos about IOLs) about Symfony lens, this seems to be ordered by competitors. So, I assume this might be a digital marketing war.
      I want to stress again - if the clinic works with Synergy the right way, and this is a lens that fits patient needs, it gives perfect vision results and performs great, and makes patients happy.

    • @iol-adviser
      @iol-adviser  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samtahm749 toric lens has no disadvantages at all, it simply corrects corneal irregularities and that is all. moreover, if cornea has an astigmatism greater than about 0.5D, a toric lens will improve the quality of vision. but should be used only if needed.
