I chatted to Sean Moore the drummer of Manic Street Preachers in December 2020! A great bloke, we chatted about the monarchy, the album The Holy Bible, drink and music! I know his mother too! I once chatted with Nicky Wire's mother as well before her passing a few years ago R.I.P. Irene Jones. A timeless classic which fuses metal/punk. I have seen them in concert 18 times to date and own many signed memorabilia of theirs. ~C~ 17 - 08 - 24
Manic Street Preachers are awesome. My favourite is one of their best known (If you tolerate this then your children will be next)...I was only 8 or so when this song came out but I remember listening to it in secondary school when trying to fit in...LOL...their lyrics are always hard hitting or at the very least poetic... Thank you Mel for putting something different in front of DJ! And happy birthday again 🫶🏻 hoping your day has been amazing! Thank you for the reaction DJ, I'm so glad that you are someone who focuses on the lyrics (reading them even if you can't hear them/understand them) because that's what I've always focused on too! LOL #HerdLove ❤
Richey Edwards who vanished off the face of the earth in 1995 was the rhythm guitarist and lyricist with the band. HE can be seen in the video to the left of vocalist/lead guitarist James Dean Bradfield.
Thank you, DJ, for checking out MSP! Their sound has definitely matured over the years and I look forward to putting more of their music in front of you at some point.
Loved that you enjoyed the lyrics, that's what has made the Manics so important over the years. The style of music is Indie (as in independent)...it's a wide ranging genre which covers The Clash, Oasis, Pulp, Blur, The Smiths, Radiohead, Levellers, Suede, The Libertines, Stone Roses, Primal Scream.
If it’s deep or poetic lyrics that float your boat, then you’ll enjoy catching up on the Manics 30 year back catalogue. Try Despair To Where, No Surface All Feeling and Misguided Missile for some classic album tracks (not the singles everyone will no doubt throw at you)
To understand the opening quote, you need to read George Orwell's 1984. The song is about self worth & how society is speeding up from an existential viewpoint.

Nice reaction - some good observations of a great song.
Thanks DJ 😊

Great vocal analysis, as usual, DJ.
The Manics were very punky when they first appeared. Check out "Motown junk" or "You love us" for proof.

I think the actor speaking the lines at the start of the track is Ian Holm, not John Hurt. I could be wrong.
