    Great job! I remember about 30+ years ago, I'd subscribed to every hi fi and home theater magazine I could find. Studied acoustics, and home theater design, plus trying to educate myself on actual movie theater and auditorium designs, as I wanted to design and build a home theater. After a couple years of consuming as much info as I could, it finally happened. A dedicated, acoustically designed home theater, with reasonably large (11' wide, 7' high) screen with hi def projector, and 17 speaker surround system. What a fun and satisfying build. Even after completing it 25 or so years ago, I still love it so much. Kids are now grown, and out on their own, but I still enjoy movies in there. That room was their (and all their friends) hangout for years growing up. Your setup is very impressive. I'm so glad you are doing a vid series on it.

    Room acoustics is such a fascinating science. Whether it is eliminating a null, cutting a peak, killing echoes, or forcing diffusion - there are so many nuances that the casual observer would think we are nuts. Great work on not only the panels, but the video production. Your videos are always well thought out and produced as well as educational.

      Thank you for the kind words, Paul. I really appreciate it and am glad you enjoy both the videos and the video production side of things. I've honestly spent more time editing these videos than in the actual room itself. 😀

    Been a fan of your channel and following you, you+wife, you+wife+cat journey for a while now. And I felt compelled to commend you as a true HT enthusiast! I especially admire that you started this channel from a technical tweak it to the max perspective while owning a middle of the road type of home system most likely found in the home of the everyday person. Even better you started in a rented home and we got to go on the journey with your family into your first home and the build videos have been a joy to watch. Why do we love you guys so much? because you are real everyday people making the most of what you got. You represent probably the majority of system owners who live in the real world and do not have 50k to spend on 2 speakers. Your passion and love of entertainment technology shines through. Your latest vids are brilliant because they are REAL. No click bait titles (HTPC nerd buys electric saw and some wood guess what happened.....)
    The fact that ahem bigger youtube personalities hire you to edit their videos says it all to me. The complete lack of knowledge on display and the blatant I am a talking head available for hire is something I hope you never become. You are much better than them and in time I am sure you will rise in the rankings. The videos of you humbly walking through CEDIA dreaming about all the out of reach super expensive systems that only millionaires can afford was REAL! Most of us live that life and you are right maybe someday who knows you will get to afford a top end system and deserve it.

      Thank you for the amazingly kind words. I must have read your comment a few times now and am truly humbled by it. Honestly, I don't even know how to respond (can you tell I have trouble taking compliments? haha), I'm just so grateful that I can share my journey with everyone and hope they find value in it. I'm just glad that my passion and love for this hobby comes through in the videos. Although I do wonder how you got the original clickbait title for my video. 😂 I'm kidding of course. I really do try and avoid clickbait titles in a time where they are so common.
      CEDIA was a different beast that I had no clue how to approach. I just tried to capture what it was like being there while, and like you said, dreaming about all that stuff that is so far out of reach. It was a great experience for sure. And I got to help out a friend make his videos better, so that was awesome too.

      Thanks Justin, and me too! I wasn't sure how much of a difference the panels would make in the space, but it's pretty drastic in terms of room echo and decay. Leftover boxes are very handy. Recently used spray loctite on acoustic squares to cardboard, and then velcro command strips gave for effective super quick acoustic treatment! But your paneling approach is helpful in figuring out a final piece.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment! I've used some cheap acoustic foam squares in our last house but I wanted something more performant in the theater. Plus, making acoustic panels has been something I've wanted to do for years, so it was nice to finally be able to successfully do it and have them turn out as well as they did.

    If only the stapling went that fast... Holy crap that was like hours of that. Our next house is definitely going to have a very nice work shed. 😄 It's still worth it though. And I loved showing you around Jo Ann Fabrics. Haha!

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I definitely wouldn't mind a work shed or heck, even a workshop where we can build all the things! I felt so bad for stapling all of them in the house, but it sure was nicer than trying to do that in the garage while I'm dripping sweat everywhere. But you handled it like a trooper (the cat did too for the most part), and that's another reason why you are THE BEST.

    Another great video. I meant to tell you about the weed barrier material when we talked but it seems you and I watched the same DIY video for our builds. I like the wall brackets you used much more than the wall claws that essentially just pierce my panels to hold them on the wall.
    I did have a little laugh because you and I basically had the same newbie experience with the build right down to the hand stapler. I made six and couldn’t hold anything for a day or so after stapling them all.
    Anyway, theater looks fantastic now sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment, Gerald! Yeah, I felt the effects for about a month afterwards. It wasn’t my proudest moment haha. But the results were fantastic and it improved the sound in the room ten-fold, so I can’t really complain. Just… SO. MANY. STAPLES.
      I actually just received Top Gun Maverick on 4K Blu-ray super early and haven’t seen it, so I feel it’ll be nice to sit down and watch that in all it’s Dolby Atmos glory. Lord knows I saw a million demo clips of the movie at CEDIA haha.

    Looking more like a legit theater room with every video man! How does it feel to finally have a dedicated room with acoustic treatments?
    Also, I like what you did for the ceiling panels, but that wouldn't have worked for me because I don't have the space above the drop ceiling frame to install a 3-1/2" thick panel. Well done!

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man, it feels AMAZING to have a dedicated room that is acoustically treated! What's funny is I recently removed them to record some before and after test recordings (and REW measurements), and the difference just to my ears was crazy. It has definitely made the room (and speakers too) sound much better and tighter. I no longer have issues with dialogue intelligibility either, which is something I've always had issues with.
      I do want to thank you again for sharing your ceiling panel process with me. I knew that I'd need to go a different route because of the extra space above I have available, but it got my creative juices flowing and that's always a great thing!

    Gamer, I'll be adding panels to my room soon as well. How much of a difference are they making with your overall echo reverb?
    On a separate note, I noticed you only have 2 seats in your room. What do you do when you have guests over to watch a movie? Neighbors? Friends? Relatives?
    How do you accommodate them??
    My room is very small 12.5 x 12.5 x 9
    And I'm deciding on how many seats I want to go with?

    Question...Hi...I have no home theater yet and never done these panels. However I'm watching these videos to learn and my question is, why did you not install diffuser, from what I understand from some videos is that you need diffusers too asking with absorption?

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really great question! Diffusers are definitely something I considered, but due to money and the size of the room (and time), I decided against diffusion for now. When I was doing research, I came across multiple sources stating that diffusers need to be around a meter or so away from the listening position to be effective. That's just not possible in my room without moving the seats forward, which would put us too close to the display. But really the biggest reasons for me not doing it was budget and the size of the room. I may look at making some down the road to experiment with (along with bass traps possibly) as nothing is set in stone.
