Paul Frees was an icon in voice acting no matter the studio he was in. Rather it was for Disney, Hanna Barbera, Rankin Bass, Jay Ward, DePatie Freleng, or MGM.
I still have an autographed picture of Mr. Frees that was sent to me when I wrote to him as a teenager. Even then, I was in awe of his talent.
Love this video and Paul's talent!
Frees starred in many Suspense and Escape episodes (classic radio dramas) He also appeared in many Classic Radio Theater programs. I have a playlist featuring Frees in over two dozen episodes, if you like - I think you'll be even more impressed of his voice acting abilities!
Solomon Hersh Frees (June 22, 1920 - November 2, 1986)
It’s a shame Paul Frees is not with us anymore. He was a great voice actor. Luckily we have Corey Burton to take his place.
How interesting that the video narration is almost word for word identical to the Wikipedia article on Frees. Hmmm.
he voiced KARR on Knight Rider.
You should do an episode on José Carioca!!! His story is most interesting.
I've always been able to do a lot of voices myself. A uncle said I sounded like Paul Frees. I googled him and he died on the day I was born. November 2nd 1986 🤯
RIP
Pauls voice was truly unique and magical... each time I watch The War of the Worlds, I am reminded of how amazing he really is.
He also voiced a couple Beatles in the Beatles cartoons, and some of the Jackson 5 in theirs. He was the voice of J Beresford Tipton on the early tv show "The Millionaire. Once I recognized his voice coming from a radio on The Untouchables, then later in the same episode doing train announcements over the loudspeakers. He also voiced at least 2 of the robot presidents in Disney World's Hall of Presidents. Once you're aware of it, Frees was truely everywhere back in the day. Oh, and you forgot to mention that he was an actor in 1951's The Thing from Another World where you can see the whole him - not just hear the voice.
Great documentary! I have seen Paul Frees' name in casts for Jay Ward productions
Another uncredited vocal role of his was the computer voice in "Colossus: The Forbin Project". His recorded voice was played through an analog vocoder to give it a mechanical tone.
He opened up Disneyland Records in 1961 and the Wonderful World Of Color or later Disney also in 1961.
Great Vocals. May He R.I.P.
RIP voice of my childhood.. I just watched the Sword and the Dragon (1956) and wondered who dubbed the heroes voice because ( and others) because it sounded so familiar ( and awesome) which led me here
His voice on the Adventure Thru Inner Space ride at Disneyland haunts me even today. As a child you were never sure if you were actually being shrunk or not!
He also played the voice of KARR in Knight Rider Season 3 KITT vs KARR...[many people believed Peter Cullen reprised the role of the voice of KARR from the episode Trust Doesn't Rust which he didn't]....
