Sad (but great) Pentair’s lack of user friendliness forces me to watch and relearn programming every spring… (the great part is kudos to this video. Appreciate you every year!!!

Couldn't believe my Pentair pump control panel could be any more confusing until I saw this previous model. An "X" for "select"? Whose idea was that? Congratulations to the presenter for making some sense of it.

Whoever did the software for these things was bereft of knowledge of any previous control systems out there. So were the people advising them.
Having a "Quick Clean" time factory set at 6 minutes is proof.
Worst of all it the Jandy VS. You can barely see the display in direct sunlight, and the programming is profoundly counter-intuitive. I can barely figure them out with a factory diagram in my hand.
I've been working pools for 30 years. I now recommend 2-speed motors. No electronics, no drive to replace, On the power center, add a 2-speed relay. On electro-mechanical timers, add a T106 (Intermatic) timer. The motors are bullet proof and have been on the market for decades, and you can use the existing pump wet end.
    Thanks for posting this video!

When my Pentair variable speed pump was installed about 3 years ago, there was only one sketchy TH-cam video about it. Finally, someone come up with a "how to" video in real time. I tried printing out the programming instructions from the manual, but it might as well have been in Greek (or maybe Chinese). Thank you!

Thank you. Love the pump, but the control panel is very difficult to use for the homeowner who only needs to change things once or twice a year. It's great once it is setup. BTW - thanks for the info about the watts, I will have to see how mine is setup to make sure I am not wasting electricity by running it too fast when I could run it slower for longer.

I just had the latest Pentair 3hp pump model 11056 professionally installed. I verified the settings with Pentair tech support. I did the math and do not really see the electric savings. The pump runs for 8 hours at 1300 rpm using 146 Watt/hours total 1168 watt/hours, next it runs for 2 hours at 2750 rpm 1265 Watt/hours total 2530 watt/hours, The pump needs to run for 1 minute at 3450 rpm 38 Watt/hours to get the Kreepy Krawley (Pentair pool sweep) to start. Total for the day 3736 Watt/hours.
My old Hayward 3hp SUPER 11 pump was running 3450 rpm for 2 hours a day at 8.3 amps on 230V total 3818 watt/hours per day. Power savings of only 82 watt/hours per day with the new Pentair pump. I know for sure that I will not see any savings on my electric bill with all the other power I use.
ALSO: for a brand new model pump it's programed with a obsolete daylight savings time. Daylight saving time before 2007.

Forgot the all so important “PASSWORD” mode😎
We set ALL our weekly pools with password protection because we got sick of customer messing with pump, pool goes green/foggy and they NEVER admit to “touching anything” lol! Depending on what part of country you live in, your pools size, gallons, and SUN EXPOSURE is how you should program the pump. I have one customer who “claims” this pump isn’t saving them ANY money on electric. I got so tired of the complaining I actually sat down and made a spreadsheet that CLEARLY shows pumps hours and watts used per day vs. their old pumps constant use of 1780-1840 watts for 12 hrs a day. Sorry, the math doesn’t lie.
Also, key here if you have a salt system or heater is that you MUST have enough PRESSURE to activate the flow switch / pressure switch. BUT! If your filter backs up (gets dirty) it is going to change what flow/pressure needed. Yeah, we get blamed for that too. Lol! If your planning a party, want to heat up pool and have timer set? Your heater is going to STOP. So THIS is where the egg timer comes in real handy. You can set egg timer for your pool to be warmed up for party and then forget about it and it will go back to normal. Just TRY to remember to shut off/turn down heater sometime soon after your party.

@@poolmonkey7479 trust me, they PAY for it long term. Kinda like the customer that ALWAYS wants a “deal” on stuff. Yeah, I’ll raise their original bid by 30% then “negotiate” with them 10% off that bid. I just made an extra 20% for their bs. Heck, I’ll give them 15% off the 30% if they pay cash 💰

I have an Intelliflo that was installed in spring of ‘23. Is there any difference in programming that one? Or is this video appropriate instruction for my pump as well. ?
