Some reddit topics mention creases and dents because of opening and closing. Also users mention that screen wont stretch perfectly after some time so the image is distorted. Apparently the response from Vividstorm is that they advise the user to leave the screen open at all times. Pretty useless for a retractable screen. How is your experience with this?
Really well done , Tony. You really help sell the idea on ditching TVs for practical projectors in home theatre setups. After living with mine for a month now, Im sold. Looking forward to your ust projector review. I’ve never heard of it until this review so that’s great to see more competition on the market.
I have a vava 4K projector and I ordered the Vividstorm 100 inch (hasn't arrived yet). Problem is that my UST projector sits on top of my TV stand and since it is a big projector. It takes the width of it (not length). I don't know where to put the Vividstorm screen. I'm not going to be able to put both the screen AND projector on top of the TV stand as they won't both fit. I could put the screen on the floor behind the stand but since the stand is 16 inch high and the screen base is 14 inches, part of the screen will be below the stand. I don't know what solutions there are. Maybe there are some risers I can put on the floor that I can put the screen on to lift it a few inches off the floor?
Welcome to the difficult world of ultrashort throw projectors... I literally just did a tour vid of my upstairs UST room, and I put the speaker underneith to help - you can actually buy wall mounts for the vividstorm so you can mount it at the correct height - that would be your easiest solution - amzn.to/3Aq4VkD
Can I ask how you're going to wall mount this with your TV already on the wall, or if you did that as this is old? I've just got a Nexigo Aurora Pro for free and was going to sell it on but love the image and want to get a screen similar to this but only use it for movies. Already have an Oled on the wall and can work out what to do screen wise. Have my TV AV unit under the TV so having this on the floor or unit isn't an option. Getting rid of the unit isn't an option as there's too much equipment in it. I don't want to have the projector on a table in front so the unit top would be where I'd sit the projector. How does wall mounting work? I've seen the brackets online but they'll just sit it flush with the wall and thus it will run into the TV?
Hi brother please I need your help . I have a pretty bright living room . I just got 72 inch vividstorm rising screen . And I don’t know which projector should I buy that’s under 1000$ with more than 2000 lumens that has usb TH-cam Netflix ect .. and plugs in instead of internal battery , and good speakers . any suggestion please that has these features ?
- John Wick - CHECK - Beard on point - CHECK - Run review - CHECK This screen looks pretty nice and I wonder how this would work in my living room. I've considered upgrading from my 65 inch to an 85 inch TV when there is a nice sale (Black Friday?). We have a lot of light inside our living room like yours. I'm curious to see your review on the projector to see how it performs during the day under more testing. The only downside I see about the screen is the location of the power plug and indicator light. That big orange light is just begging for attention when you enter your living room. Perhaps it can be hidden with a well-positioned decoration? It's always fun when you family makes it into your B roll footage!
I think if you mount it to the wall you can somewhat mitigate the cabling and the light. I'm not sure but someone would be able to work it out I'm sure!
This is a great point, and as I would consider this sort of screen for a living room, more than a dedicated theater (which is exactly how I will be mounting this screen very soon!) There should be a provision for a center speaker in your cabinet. I'll be placing me RP-250C under it inside my cabinet, filling the alcove with some acoustic material and aiming it upwards. Or you could go with a phantom center as well - which I have seen people do in this case as well! I have my screen offline at the moment and I can tell you I miss having it up - I can't wait to get my projector in so I can wall mount it!
Is there much of a height difference between the screen base and the projector? I think I might have to go with the same sort of setup, but trying to find a small table which matches the height is a big ask. Thanks.
It won’t work with a standard projector as it’s designed to reject the light from all angles accept up. Like the CHiQ projector I show or the VAVA projector. I’m about to review it very soon!
@@BuildMontage Thank you for the swift answer, great channel you have here. It really helped me as I am in the process of building my home theater. As far as I know, the ALR material will work but not sure how it will perform, all reviews on youtube are testing it with Xiaomi or VAVA but no one showing how they perform with a non-ultra short throw projector. If you can make a video on that, it will really help as I heard that ALR screens give much better black levels than white screens. I am planning to get LG HU70LA 4K UHD LED and was wondering what best screen material would be best for it. I will control the lights in my theater room but I am a big fan of deeper blacks thats why I thought of getting a PET crystal screen or Cinegrey 5D.
Recently purchased vava short throw laser projector with vava alr 100inch screen. I want bigger screen like 120 inch. Do you think just plain white screen will work with short throw laser projector? My room is pretty dark and not too much sunlight. Just wondering if picture quality would be a lot worse just with white screen?
I just did a video on the VAVA projector paired with the VAVA 100" screen - i think it looks better on a darker screen as i prefer higher contrast images, and the VAVA is super bright. Light will reflect off the white screen if you have anything other than a really dark room. Check my channel you will see the second latest video is on the VAVA screen. I don't know about bigger - it may wash the image out as well as it will have to spread the light further... i think 100" is the sweet spot for the VAVA 4K
Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the screen. I was hoping to get your opinion on whether the viewing angle was too high when placing the screen on the tv console, or would you recommend placing it on the floor instead for when watching from a sofa?
Great review. Perhaps a little off topic, but can the Vividstorm UST screen be used with a regular projector? I think EBPMAN used this screen in his Benq TK850 review. Thanks in advance.
They make a material for regular projectors now. Its not ALR. I kind of looked into this screen but the alignment and wrinkles along with the wear and tear of going up and down kind of turned me off.
Great video Tony! There is just something off with the thumbnail, somehow I didn't recognize first that it's your video. Maybe use a close-up shot of the microstructure of the screen in a part of the thumbnail. And maybe include your BM profile picture in a corner of the thumbnail.
They have a 700$ version of this but it's made Obsidian Long Throw ALR.... if I use that one vs the one made for UST with the wemax UST would it wash the image out or would it still produce a decent image? 1000$ in savings for something slightly not as good is a hit I would take but I'm not sure how the UST would react on a OLT screen. I've heard alot the difficulties getting a non wavy image even with a framed tension screen can be difficult. Was thinking buying the cheaper floor tension model might be better even if it's Obsidian LT ALR.... any thoughts sir? Love the content btw ty......
You can - I tried with it - it actually makes black levels really good because it does block some light - so if you had a bright projector it will work really well.
I can’t see why not! You have to mount an ultra short throw projector upside down on the ceiling as well though as it won’t work otherwise. Vividstorm fo have regular ones as well for in ceiling.
Yes you can buy it locally. Check on their website as I believe there are links. I’ll see if I can find out for you as well and I’ll comment back here.

I just want to know that for the 120" how many distance need from screen base box to projector box ? please can you tell me before i buy, im asking because of im going to use my furniture. Thanks you and i hope you are going to give me nice advice :-)
Hi, it's impossible for me to know unfortunately as you will need to work out the distances and measure once you get the projector. You can buy wall mounts for it so you can mount it on the wall at the exact height you need to with your furniture so it gets the picture perfectly squared. I hope it helps :)
@@BuildMontage Oh my bad I thought you said it was a one, maybe I misheard you. Genuinely speaking what is a demo unit? is it any different from the one you buy.
It isn’t perfect but that room has a LOT of ambient light and also the main issue I discovered during my test is light was coming from behind it which normally you would have it against a wall. I have done other tests and it’s pretty good.

Why are you filming from an angle? That's not the smartest thing to do since ALR screens have poor viewing angles. They're mean to be viewed from centre position. But I'm sceptical that it really have any meaningful ALR capabilities. From the looks of it, it reminds me more of a regular grey screen than anything else. Nothing beats a real ALR screen with a long throw projector when it comes to contrast ratio I guess.
Nope. With the lights the picture is Absolutely washed like a ordinary 1080p projector and with the lights of not impressive at all. But not sure if this is for the quality of the screen or the picture quality of the projector.
saikat bose I disagree. These lights are super bright lights. An ordinary screen would have been zero picture. I was showing the extreme lighting conditions for clarity. This screen works really well with ambient light but direct bright lights any screen will struggle.
