The lead up to the Wind Temple is probably one of the most incredible atmospheric achievements I’ve seen in a game. Even if the temple was Divine Beast 2.0, the trek to it is absolutely legendary. No wonder the devs wanted you to go to the Rito first, they wanted to blow their MASSIVE load.
The devs wanted us to go there first? Is that confirmed? I'm not doubting you, it absolutely felt like that was the way to go without feeling like I was at any point pushed that way. It just felt natural. Goddamn this game is a masterclass.

Well I liked the divine beasts in terms of design, I just disliked their lack of theming, so I'm fine with this. There's still a ton of problem solving and layered intricate level design in the game (case in point the lead-up to the temple itself here), it doesn't have to be inside a dungeon to be meaningful, that's such an arbitrary way to look at things.

tbh, what I find really interesting about the dungeons in Tears is that structurally, they’re almost exactly the same as the Divine Beasts - solving navigational and mechanical puzzles in order to active five Doohickeys. The biggest differences between these and the Beasts, then, is aesthetics and boss design. Aesthetically, the dungeons do have different visual designs despite all being relatively sky/Zonai-themed, and the 2D, multi-floor maps help them feel less overwhelming and a little easier to navigate. The bosses, on the other hand, are arguably the most traditional Zelda thing in the game; while dealing damage is important, more often than not you’re having to interact with certain themed mechanics in order to puzzle out the boss’s weakness. (In contrast, the Blights were just straight-up slugfests, and were arguably the weakest part of BOTW in general) I mostly just find it neat because despite some people grumping about it, I never considered the Beasts to be “not dungeons”. They are dungeons, for all intents and purposes, and even their “samey” designs never bothered me because of the difference in settings outside of their structures. And yet, the dungeons in Tears are leagues better anyway. The leadup to the Wind Temple is so good that I count it as part of the dungeon experience, and the dungeon itself was a lot of fun, significantly more than any of the Beasts. I dunno. It’s one of those really fun comparisons to ponder. :V
Wonder where the sheika got the idea from? It's clear from a lore perspective, the sheika wanted to recreate the zonais godly technology, from the weapon designs to the ruins. From a gameplay perspective, the shrines are just to let the player have a sense of familiarity in order to complete the dungeon.
Yeah, I think the lead-up to all the dungeons should be considered when discussing their quality as they really are a part of the "dungeon" themselves. The title drop for the temple is usually after some dungeoning has already arguably happened and in Wind Temple's case, I'd say it's the halfway point. Judging the Wind Temple for its Divine Beast similarities is more than fair, but the tornado climb should always be in the discussion. To add to what you were saying, I think my biggest gripe with the Divine Beast aspects of the TotK dungeons is how it feels like there's the potential for dungeon design that's truly revolutionary but instead we get something that's really just 4 or so shrines glued together (again). I actually enjoy what we got here but still, it feels like the game could go so much harder on the puzzles in the dungeons with the crazy mechanics we have at our disposal. Not necessarily harder in difficulty, but more interesting.
So far, during my 2 (Lightning and Fire) temples I felt that the puzzle designs were weaker than their botw counterparts. Aesthetically I didn't care much, but the new ones they certainly look amazing. The lightning temple's boss before entering the temple kinda sucked for me, but the actual fight at the end was amazing. As for the fire temple's boss: no complaints. I thought that Nintendo knew what they were doing with these, even 6 years ago. Putting a full-scale dungeon in these 2 just wouldn't work. I'm glad that both games manage to have ups and downs for me that let me pick which aspect I like and where. Overall I feel that the game design is still going very strong.
@@habama1077 Meh, it's the opposite for me personally. That moment when you follow Naydra down into the chasm was the first time I entered a chasm in the game. I actually didn’t even know you could go down the gloom holes at that point, I thought I would die from gloom damage trying to retrieve the scale. And then I landed in complete darkness with only my scale like “where the hell am I”
Ohh that sounds so nice! I was completely blown away by the depths when I got there the first time. I absolutely loved it and I still do, though I wish it were even spookier and it wouldn't be so easy to illuminate the places. I love to dwell in the twilight, but it's either too dark or too bright most of the time
I love that weird egg lady at the entrance of Hateno. Laughed so hard at that. Not even just for the awkward attempt to be smooth but I got real DeVito offering an egg vibe from that interaction.
I will say that even though the dungeons are stylistically similar to BoTW in the sense of you have 4-5 certain tasks you have to do and then the boss battle unlocks- it feels like its executed significantly better than BoTW by the unique designs of the temples themeselves, and the fact that the bosses havent been Clones. So far they've been relatively short, but the music themeing of each one and the journey to find them have been really good.
2:20:39 Yknow, between the blood moon, the foggy, chill ambience, the ruins and the unsettling music, Id question if hed walked into some Rylehian nightmare.
I recently got the new champion’s tunic quest from Zelda’s house and really wanted to get it ASAP-I spent 45 minutes building the most scuffed contraption consisting of a ridiculously long bridge with a platform at one end and two stabilizers to make it upright. It rained 3 times and I broke several much longer iterations before I had to move on to building on a stable base and scrapped the stabilizers. Even then, it wobbled and I had to jump from a nearby turret to even make it to the top, where I spent another 10 minutes trying to spawn and stack a couple of springs without having them fall off. EVEN THEN I could only make it to the side and had to burn a stamina tonic just to make it up to the castle. I promptly got my ass stomped by black moblins/bokoblins after beelining to the shrine and figured it was way too early to be there. Great game 10/10
I didnt realize you could shoot the boss, I liked my way of skydiving through its body while dodging the icicles. Plus that way you get to hear the amazing music more.
Thanks for the quick upload Johnny. I missed part 3 the other day and was sad because of twitch’s VoD bullshit preventing me from checking it out there. Faster uploads helps alleviate that annoyance and we appreciate you for it. ❤
@@hihohe4067 Meanwhile I didnt even know there was any other way to fight it. Shooting the three ice crystals on its belly seemed like the most obvious weak point. I had no idea you could dive into it and I'm struggling to picture how that even works without seeing the footage of it.
@@anniacal676 it shoots the icicles off its back, you have to dodge and weave through them until you get a good spot to dive through, its honestly exhilarating.
@@anniacal676 I think i got it through my head that it would work like that because on the way up to the dungeon there were ice floors that would crack when you walked on them. instead of breaking it with fire i just jumped on it multiple times till it broke. then i tried another ice floor from a higher height and it just shattered instantly. so when i got to the boss, it does its icicle atack and exposes it weak point i tried to do it with an arrow and it cracked and i was like "OH its like the ice floors! Dive on through!"
I'm one of the people who sincerely loves Skyward Sword, and it made me happy to at least hear it acknowledged that there ARE people who like it. Not my favorite Zelda title, but it came to me during a weird point in my life and honestly will always stick with me because of that. It's definitely not perfect, I remember getting really angry at some sections, but man the place in my heart that was taken by that game was TAKEN. Nothing has managed to even come close to the feeling that the Silent Realms gave me in particular. So much of that game will probably forever stick with me. Totally understand where people are coming from with criticism though.
Vinny can make things like the Shock Like Sword and the Like Like spear, but maybe one day someone may put in a Vinesauce mod to make an "Egg Like Sword"
4:58:55 I remember that. I'm fairly certain Vinny was riding a horse, smacked a Moblin, the game froze for a second or two, and the korok appeared way in the distance. I think that particular trigger was bugged because I distinctly remember the same thing happening to me when I got that korok, and someone else I know got it as well.
@@junezdollhouse It was in the Tabantha Village Ruins, after he had already collected the Zora and Goron champion powers. I don't know exactly which stream it was from, but if you check the main Vinesauce channel, it occurs at 5:20 of the _The Legend of Zelda: Clips of the Wild_ highlight video.
1:01:36 The Giant Red Rocket had a bunch of metal rods in it. One of them blasted out a few inches from his ribs, and another flew off right between the heads of two other people on set, narrowly avoiding causing three gruesome deaths. However, he _did_ suffer a serious groin injury from botching a motorcycle stunt in a 2007 tribute to Evel Knievel (note: Knoxville was not trained on even the basics of riding a motorcycle.) He was specifically told not to "ditch the bike right away". That is to say, if he let go of the bike after leaving the ramp but while still on the way up, physics all but guaranteed the bike would land on him. After several failed takes he was tired and didn't care, ditched the bike right away, fell on his back with his legs up, and in the next few seconds the bike's handlebars broke against his dick. When he got up he thought he was pissing his pants. He was in fact _pissing blood_ and had to go to the hospital immediately, where it was found he had ruptured his urethra. He was bedridden for 3 weeks and wore a catheter for over 3 years. He was still able to produce two children after the incident. If the handlebars had contacted ever-so-slightly further down on his dong he would have been permanently emasculated. This was _before_ he smacked his face on the ground so bad that his left eye came out of the socket whenever he sneezed for the next six weeks.
3:27:55 I killed him by downward thrust sky diving because I ran out of arrows. Vinny is seriously a skilled gamer. The way he breeze through these shrines that would take me 10 minutes are more is nothing short of remarkable.
@@NovaAeternus I stupidly ignored the boxes and barrels thinking I would need them for a puzzle. They usually only have like one arrow in them and so I didn't want to use durability of my weapons on them. I also didn't realize I could just use my rune. I used arrows to fight with enemies and break each ice cover. Finally, I wasn't paying attention to my dwindling numbers. Gamer extraordinaire I am certainly not. LOL!
"I think whoever creates the first penis-korok torture device ends up getting a million subscribers on TH-cam." The fact that this can be said, and then be actually created by someone in game, without the use of any mods... proves this game is incredible.
It comes off like he doesn't care, so I kind of wish he didn't do it so often. I know he does though since LOZ and Metroid are some of his favorite series ever.
3:17:57 Seeing how simple this was makes me feel so bad, I thought the ice would break if I tried it. So I grabbed the grate from the room underneath the cannon, did some recall shenanigans to bring it over to the hole on the side without losing it, and used that to attach the gears. Now that I think about it too, I could have just stuck some weapons together. I already tried with multiple icicles (those broke when I tried moving them), but I didn't see the one right in front of me that was big enough for it.
The korok that you just randomly get in the snowy northwest area is a snowball hole puzzle. At a distance the map is loaded in but with less polygons, making the snowball roll down the slope. If youre near the area or gliding above, the snowball has a chance to solve the korok puzzle before you get to it

Love the Wind Temple (and especially the lead-up to it). The dungeons aren't quite back to classical style, but I greatly prefer these ones to the Divine Beasts and I even liked those just fine so they're fantastic in TOTK.
Not sure how this is better than a divine beast tbh, at least those use specific mechanics of the dungeon, the wind temple just sort of exists with no real rhyme or reason. The puzzles don't relate with wind in any capacity and they feel thrown together. At least its short though.
(in response to Vinny not knowing who the fuck Tulin is and why he recognizes Link) Tulin was a supremely minor character in BotW you probably never spoke to as every single interaction with him is skippable. He also has a minor role in AoC's DLC. . . . . . . . . . BOTW If you talk to Tulin before meeting with Teba, Tulin will direct you to the Flight Range. After recovering from the fight against Van Medoh, Teba will take him down to the Flight Range to train him with a bow. If you talk to them there, you can show off your bow skills and Tulin will say he wants to be as good with a bow as Link when he grows up. (Note that TotK Tulin almost always headshots when he attacks.) From this, I assume all the chats with Tulin are canon, that Link talked with him regularly between BotW and TotK, and that Tulin treats Link like a Cool Uncle. . . . . . . . . . AOC In the main game, Teba is brought from the Bad Future to help create the alt-timeline Good Future. In the DLC it's revealed that Tulin came with him, but got lost in the Lost Woods... sort of. Tulin turns out to be able to see Koroks and becomes a Friend of the Forest, allowing him to guide Revali and Teba safely through the Lost Woods. AoC Revali is so impressed with Tulin's talents, and the audacity to make fun of Revali to his face, that he drops his asshole act and is nice to the kid. He uses his ninja reflexes to grab a blanket the wind blows off of Tulin and put it back on him. Tulin is inspired to develop his own version of Revali's Gale, which he calls Tulin's Tornado. He failed at this in AoC but has figured it out in TotK, even if his is sideways instead of upways.
Man everytime I see these videos pop up in my sub box I wanna watch sooo bad, but I feel so far behind on my own playthrough and I don't want to be spoiled by even the smallest things to discover.
Fr Tulin had no business getting this much character development. Seeing him become a major character after him being the flight range minigame kid in BOTW was so good.
For the Wind Temple Boss you can actually Sky dive through the weak points and be completely fine. With just 1 of the sky dive mobility clothing it actually makes it a lot easier to dodge the spikes while doing so. Trust me when I say it felt very cool doing this on my first playthrough.
I hope Vinny at some point gets to check out the "Tears of the War Crimes" video at some point, plenty of funny creations and more Korok shenanigans in that for him to see
The way you put stuff together reminds me of lbp. And the way the underground area and the caves are laid out and look just remind me of Pikmin 3. Maybe it's the enemies too. Like I expect to just see a group of yellow Pikmin come in and light the area.
1:12:40 It would be amazing whoever's editing this to add a gigantic stone to fall on her for like three frames and then cut away to whatever else Vinny's doing
I beat that boss the same way vinny did only even cheesier, I happened to have a lynel bow so I was able to effectively one-shot each segment since one fire arrow broke the ice before the other two hit the weak point. I think I beat the boss in less than a minute because I was able to get a clear shot both phases early on...
I'm honestly very surprised by the number of people in chat the genuinely didn't know that the "outsmarting the devs" thing is intentional. I'd see some people say things like, "to be fair, they can't check the whole game", which isn't necessarily wrong, but they give you all of the tools at the start for a reason. It's very obvious what the intention is; they want to give you freedom in how you tackle challenges. I also hate the people who call games like this "kids games". For real, what does that even mean? Is that an insult to the game or the devs or what? I guess a game made for everyone that isn't covered in blood and guns is always inherently for kids or something-- I like my Halo and Gears as much as the next guy, but come on.
"Gimmick ignored", chat says. Meanwhile, Colgera never even had a chance to use the attacks that reveal the gimmick. Vinny did the same thing I did: Saw shells on back, immediately dove below to find weak spot, immediately shot weak spot, won fast.
Literally just visited twitch to see if there was another stream uploaded and was disappointed I couldn’t find one on there. Thank you for your immaculate timing, Johnny. you’ve done it again ✨
People are so pedantic about what qualifies as a "Dungeon"...it almost makes me think. It's like people have forgot how to just say they don't like something, they gotta be really insistent on the qualifier of: But does it really count as a dungeon? It's really dumb.
@kameryngreer3098 it could really be a copy of any of the oot dungeons, but then they'd just say: "it's just a copy, they really can't make anything new anymore can they?" You can't win with these oot hacks, its time to ignore them and let them accept their meta is over with. If it's not like oot it's bad, if it's too much like oot it's also bad.
What's funny is by their own dumb logic the Deku Tree shouldn't be a dungeon, Jabuu Jabuu shouldn't be a dungeon. Dragon Roost shouldn't be a dungeon, Snowpeak ruins shouldn't be a dungeon and the Sand Ship shouldn't be a dungeon. Heck half the Minish Cap dungeons are just a random hole in a wall... And one of them in the floor.
Find it funny that Vinny solved the shrine puzzle 13:30 roughly the same way I did 😂 I just had the platform where he didn't due to dropping it. His reaction to the stuff not being there is great 😂
I'm surprised Vinny didn't vomit in the ball pit. Or at least say something about vomiting in the ball pit, seeing as that's probably not an in-game feature.
Man the build up and boss fight alone would have put this in my top 10 Zelda dungeons, but then when it comes to the dungeon itself... well I remember wondering "Did Nintendo forget how to make Zelda dungeons???" but then I remembered monolith were responsible for the level design.
Exactly dude, this dungeon was so weak and felt like they threw it together last minute. If Monolith actually did design all the dungeons, that would be unfortunate. Monolith is not known for good interior design imo
The build up is incredible but the dungeon itself is kinda meh, but the great theming made it better for me The other dungeons are really good though in my opinion, especially the Lighting Temple
Yeah the build up and general theming were amazing, but I wish the dungeon itself was larger, more complex and had more enemies than just the constructs. It just doesn't feel like like classic Zelda dungeons that were massive, winding and confusing structures.

Great game 10/10

so when i got to the boss, it does its icicle atack and exposes it weak point i tried to do it with an arrow and it cracked and i was like "OH its like the ice floors! Dive on through!"
God fucking damnit the Wind Temple reveal floored me when I found it. The music build up to it is just SUPERB. Easily one of my favorite Zeldas.
However, he _did_ suffer a serious groin injury from botching a motorcycle stunt in a 2007 tribute to Evel Knievel (note: Knoxville was not trained on even the basics of riding a motorcycle.) That is to say, if he let go of the bike after leaving the ramp but while still on the way up, physics all but guaranteed the bike would land on him. After several failed takes he was tired and didn't care, ditched the bike right away, fell on his back with his legs up, and in the next few seconds the bike's handlebars broke against his dick.

Tulin was a supremely minor character in BotW you probably never spoke to as every single interaction with him is skippable. He also has a minor role in AoC's DLC.
. . . . . . . . .
BOTW
If you talk to Tulin before meeting with Teba, Tulin will direct you to the Flight Range. After recovering from the fight against Van Medoh, Teba will take him down to the Flight Range to train him with a bow. If you talk to them there, you can show off your bow skills and Tulin will say he wants to be as good with a bow as Link when he grows up. (Note that TotK Tulin almost always headshots when he attacks.)
From this, I assume all the chats with Tulin are canon, that Link talked with him regularly between BotW and TotK, and that Tulin treats Link like a Cool Uncle.
. . . . . . . . .
AOC
In the main game, Teba is brought from the Bad Future to help create the alt-timeline Good Future.
Was looking forward to his reaction to the boss theme, but he completely blew through the boss fight.. RIP :(
