This is my favourite Nickelback song, and a great one to belt out at the top of your lungs. Also an essential song to blast at any protest. Best thing is, there's no way it's a bad song. Nickelback may get a shittonne of undeserved hate, but this song is a masterpiece.

mynameisvampka In my opinion, some people perhaps give them negativity due to them not sticking to one genre as majority of bands do i.e. you get metal bands, rock bands, pop bands (take the amount of hatred their is within the metal community considering there is over 100+ metal genres and you always get individuals who will critisise due to some biased reason). But with Nickelback they have written all sorts of songs in different categories like rock ballads, hard rock/metal groove songs, and pop (take their new song She Keep's Me Up which is influenced by an 80's disco funk sound and now compare that to their metal influenced song Million Miles An Hour). I absolutely LOVE all their music and throughout their album releases they always produce really awesome unique songs! If you haven't listened to all 8 of their albums then you really need to!!

Good is a subjective quality. Most people, myself included, feel that Nickelback panders to their audience. They do it successfully, but it doesn't change the fact that the majority of their music sounds very similar lyrical, vocally and instrumentally. They are the definition of unchanging.

People don't hate Nickelback, I think their sales figures prove that. I guess it's just cos they're so radio friendly and coincidentally always on the radio ;) that some people just find them annoying. And whoever is the most visible will also get the most shit. It's the same with everybody, so it goes.
First, I think that a lot of people feel like Nickelback are sellouts, and once you're slapped with that label, it's not an easy one to shed. Second, there was a period (2003-2009 or so) where they were overplayed on the radio to a ridiculous degree. People burned out on them. Third, some of the hate comes from fans of metal and heavier rock, but it also comes from the mainstream. As a hard rock band (at least initially) that blew up big across the mainstream, Nickelback has always been an awkward fit among artists that skew strongly towards pop and hip-hop. Fourth, there's an element of bandwagon-jumping to be certain. Once it becomes widespread enough, hating them becomes an exercise in group belonging. Finally, their lyrical quality has generally declined. From the emotional depth and world-weary tone of Rockstar, with its brilliant use of metaphor and allegory, they've regressed towards straightforward lyrics that focus cynically on shallow, unoriginal themes or that repeat overused platitudes again and again as if there's some originality and meaning left to squeeze out of them. It's frustrating, and a lot of people feel like that's the main indicator of Nickelback selling out. Either that or they're stagnated creatively a bit. Personally, I still enjoy a lot of their songs, but I'm not as high on them as I used to be.
I'm not a fan of Nickelback, but I entirely respect your choice in liking them. I can see that a lot of people may give them hate due to their simple riffs and bass lines. In my opinion, it's not about the complexity of the music that matters, it's whether the listener enjoys it or not. Good is a subjective quality. Most people, myself included, feel that Nickelback panders to their audience. They do it successfully, but it doesn't change the fact that the majority of their music sounds very similar lyrical, vocally and instrumentally. They are the definition of unchanging.

People don't hate Nickelback, I think their sales figures prove that.
I guess it's just cos they're so radio friendly and coincidentally always on the radio ;) that some people just find them annoying. And whoever is the most visible will also get the most shit. It's the same with everybody, so it goes.
First, I think that a lot of people feel like Nickelback are sellouts, and once you're slapped with that label, it's not an easy one to shed.
Second, there was a period (2003-2009 or so) where they were overplayed on the radio to a ridiculous degree. People burned out on them.
Third, some of the hate comes from fans of metal and heavier rock, but it also comes from the mainstream. As a hard rock band (at least initially) that blew up big across the mainstream, Nickelback has always been an awkward fit among artists that skew strongly towards pop and hip-hop.
Fourth, there's an element of bandwagon-jumping to be certain. Once it becomes widespread enough, hating them becomes an exercise in group belonging.
Finally, their lyrical quality has generally declined. From the emotional depth and world-weary tone of Rockstar, with its brilliant use of metaphor and allegory, they've regressed towards straightforward lyrics that focus cynically on shallow, unoriginal themes or that repeat overused platitudes again and again as if there's some originality and meaning left to squeeze out of them. It's frustrating, and a lot of people feel like that's the main indicator of Nickelback selling out. Either that or they're stagnated creatively a bit.
Personally, I still enjoy a lot of their songs, but I'm not as high on them as I used to be.
I'm not a fan of Nickelback, but I entirely respect your choice in liking them. I can see that a lot of people may give them hate due to their simple riffs and bass lines. In my opinion, it's not about the complexity of the music that matters, it's whether the listener enjoys it or not. As I said before, I don't like Nickelback, but I respect your music choice :) I hope this helps by the way :)
