Just wanted to say that, while my taste in games doesn’t always align with yours, you are one of the few reviewers that I trust to tell me exactly what you don’t like about games that you review and I never feel like you fluff a game up. Keep up the good work!
I feel like drawing 2 tiles each turn would make the decision making/options wayyyyy better. Pick one to play put the other back in the pile, then draw 2 more.
Thank you for the review Luke, as always cool video. I believe Ireland map may positively surprise you - give it a go whenever you will be able to. Speaking as a member of the team working on Rebirth I wanted to add something here: yes, we worked on the map art and graphic design a little more since this prototype was printed, for example we made sure that Cathedrals are standing out more with stronger yellow hex and unique art for each of them and Settlements in the final version have a big icon in the centre of each hex (and no name tag) like Food and Energy farms do. In addition to that we put thicker outlines to make Settlements stand out even more and an extra line to help differentiate medium (double outline) and large (triple outline) settlements. Hope you enjoyed the smoothness of the gameplay for this basic map and I hope you will enjoy Rebirth in its final form too. And yes, there is a free pickup at Essen Spiel’24 option on KS page - and it will be available there 😃 please come and check it out!
Thanks for your review! I’m always on the lookout for accessible games for game players with diverse interest in gaming and skill level. I wish this was for more than 4 players as game night can easily spill over to at least a 6 player count. Nice to hear you referencing 5 Tribes even if it’s about AP. Five Tribes is a personal favorite of mine!
It's great to see an honest review like this! It feels like (especially on Kickstarter) people care more about how the game looks than how good the gameplay is :(
Thanks for the review. I saw it all over internet ads, and wondered, but didn't back it, and I'm glad I didn't. Seems fun, but for me and my main group it may be too light.
I backed it because the simplicity is great for my college group of friends, but with other group we got hegemony recently "Perfectly balanced as all things should be"
This was one where the shipping at 1/4 the game's cost killed any desire to back. The value proposition seemed way off at 60+ Euro (especially since that makes it even more expensive in USD).
I cancelled my pledge last week. I figured the retail later will be fine because I got plenty of this weight. I assume most people are in that boat and I'll get a second hand later
Kingdom builder is my favorite game of all time, so this looks right up my alley! (Though I don’t think it looks quite as good as kingdom builder). Backed on kickstarter.
I played at ukge and it felt like I would be bored by the second play. I spoke to the person who taught it and they did say the Ireland map may be more interesting for me, but he understood the limited replayability of it. Artwork is nice though.
My god Luke now your review comes out so quickly these games literally just finished their funding campaign! (Sounds a bit tiring though when it comes to catching the market trend… I really like your closing line of each video that “remember, it’s only a game” Most gamers probably don’t even realise that it’s a game, we throw our life’s in to get oop games and we preorder queue for games with hype. People can get so stress trying to get board games…
@@tmcd5049 No, it really isn't. I tried a few more after 2, but that just confirmed what I already knew. Everything else I've looked at just doesn't interest me. Maybe there's one out there that will connect with me, but there are so many other great games I'm pretty sure I'm not missing anything life changing.
@@karldoughty7996 Have you played Samurai? Tigris & Euphrates? Carcassonne: the Castle? Some games have to be experienced, the rules just don't capture the essence of a game, and even playthroughs struggle with that. Still, there are a massive number of non-RK games out there, no reason you should be subjected to his if you don't want to be. It's just, you needn't be so sure you won't be surprised by one of them in the future...
@@tmcd5049 I appreciate what you're saying and I wouldn't refuse to play a new Knizia game if someone offered. Like I said, I'm sure there's something he's done that I'd enjoy, but we all base our opinions on experience. Up to now I've been put off. I don't like the thought of trawling through his back catalogue just to find a couple of gems when there are so many others I'd rather buy first 🙂 (The Castle was OK, but I sold it after a few plays).
@@karldoughty7996 Sorry you didn't get on with Castles. I think he improved Carc enormously, at least for my tastes. Best Carc going! Just keep an open mind, if you can.

Thank you, someone has to be on the side of the consumer these days, I feel so many reviewers simply are just hyping everything for sake of it.
always appreciate the honest review !
If a reviewer isn't honest, I ain't watching them.

Thanks for checking out the video! :-) I look forward to seeing the final version!

Really like this game. Fits on my coffee table, simple to learn mechanics, but fun player interaction to screw with othe players.

Yeah I don't think there was much reason to back in advance.

Beating Kingdom Builder isn't difficult for me! :p
Think if you backed it they have an option to pick it up at Essen. I backed it. Nice quick filler game. Always good to have a few kicking about.

Yeah everyone keeps telling me Ireland Ireland Ireland, but that's not good if 50% of your game is boring after a couple plays.
Knizia Builder!

Well they only sent it to me a couple weeks ago 😁
It only took me 2 Knizia games to find out I don't like Knizia games . . .
That's like saying I only rolled a die two times before I discovered rolling a 6 is impossible!
