I love the production of In Rock. It's loud and raw and feels fresh and exciting. It's one of the things that makes it my favourite Deep Purple studio album.

I’ve always said early deep purple’s
music was too raw to be produced to perfection.

it's Ritchie's history as a session musician .he made his singers sound so good...never playing over them...always a very supportive role during the vocal parts...

I love how this review is so positive towards rock (proto-heavy metal here) and comes across as really excited about the coming out of this album. The reviewer definitely gets it right here.

Great stuff! Regarding Blackmore's comparison with Hendrix I always thought it interesting that he was the only one of Hendrix's peers in the rock scene (with possibly Zappa) to take on board what he was doing. Most guitarists of the day stayed well clear, probably because they were too awestruck and didn't have the guts. It took a while for Hendrix to get absorbed more fully into rock. Brian May springs to mind as a later player who grabbed the baton Jimi had passed on

Brian May has said that Blackmore was
there before everyone doing things Hendrix was doing before Hendrix.. if that makes sense.. i’m sure some of you have seen the short clip interview of may talking about Ritchie.

@@ponytrekker8996 yeah I've seen that vid. I guess Brian must've been talking of Blackmore's work as a session player pre Purple. Jimi obviously took a lot from the British guitarists at the time like Clapton, Beck and Townshend. Jimi, Blackmore and Townshend are my top 3 of all time and they're all guitar smashers funnily enough

I love that: "Ritchie Blackmore is the new Jimi Hendrix", absolutely! And I agree about the production of Deep Purple in Rock, it's not THAT amazing, it's certainly not "Gypsy"-level like you said. Maybe the album Fireball can match some of Heep's finer productions.

Sorry to contradict you mate but Deep Purple was a HEAVY ROCK BAND not metal. It has to be said that the metal bands that followed ripped Purples work shamelessly. But that does not make Purple metal.
