- Canada continues to see extreme weather events and wildfires at an increasing rate and with more severity- and it's leading to rising costs for both Canadians and insurers.
New data from Statistics Canada shows that from 1983 until 2008, insurers spent $400 million annually on average, but since 2009 that number has shot up to about $2 billion each year.
As Sean Previl explains, climate and insurance experts say it's unlikely to change anytime soon but there are things Canadians and insurers can do to help mitigate costs.

What extreme weather? The only thing extreme in Canada is the liberal policies.
I thought my carbon tax is paying for better weather???
cut our carbon tax and tell india , china and russia to pay for the tax?
Arsonists/climate activists costing Canadians Billions.
Well said
Arson isn’t “extreme weather” it’s arson!
Put arsonists in jail
its your governing system doing it
Send your entire paycheque to Justin Trudeau he’ll fix the extreme weather
They did not make sacrifices to the Volcano God! and now this bad weather
a global coordinated response is really whats needed but the political climate is less than ideal to say the least.
😅
Carbon tax not working?!🤔🤔🤔
people need to pay more taxes and higher insurance and bring more immigrants in , there is still to many Canadians in my city
😂 right!!!
As of 2022, China 🇨🇳 was by far the world's largest *coal* consumer with 55% of energy use, an increase of 2% of the total energy from the year before.
So China is accelerating the use of coal despite it having signed the Paris agreement.

Insurance companies and governments should quit paying for damages to homes in high-rick areas like flood plains or forested environments.
Canada has always had harsh weather.

Mr Prime Menister why can't you put the fires out.
What can be done about it??? Obviously complain a lot will help the situation, I feel better now
Simple, you have much better firefighting technology use them.
Justin sent $9 billion to 🇺🇦. Justin's millions should be sent, not our pennies
Increase taxes please! Thats the only action we can take!
Fuhk yeah! Moar taxes! 👍👍

It's disheartening that an oil company stooge is positioned to lead us off the cliff with his gucci loafer stomped on the gas pedal.
Unlike Thelma and Louise this character is no hero.
JT KEEPS HITTING TH3 GAS ON HIS PLANE. One of THE TOP CO2 EMITERS IN THE WORLD!!!!!!
Liberals needs to increase the tax higher so they can fix climate change. Im a big liberal supporter and im happy to pay more tax. i believe anything Mr. Prime Minister Trudeau says .
Dint worry pee pee boy will come in get rid of the tax (you'll still be paying the same). But will reverse most environmental laws, that protect our forests watees and air. and such. Basically allow more pollution.
@@bigmike6461lol. Yeah, because after decades of carbon taxes in BC their emissions have gone up and they still get bad weather. WHO could belive that paying more for everything wouldn’t change the climate. I’m in disbelief.
@@BlueTeamRedTeam meanwhile the cons solution to the problem is to make green energy unwanted, and allow an increase in pollution saying its ok, because other countries do our. But I don't expect much from people that believe burning coal is clean, and dumping tailing pond water into rivers, streams, and ground water is perfectly fine.
@@bigmike6461 conservatives don’t think any of that is fine and they aren’t about not developing cleaner energy sources. You’ve had too much koolaid. I bet you think lithium mining is great for the environment and love the unrecyclable windmills and solar panels that also rely on heavy industry and aren’t better for the planet. Did you know it takes 200,000 gallons of wanted to produce one ton of lithium? Sounds super environmentally friendly and sustainable.
