    • @lensman5762
      @lensman5762 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep Lead is bad, but copper, Tin, and other alternatives are good! Lead oxidises easily and this oxide is the compound that lubricates the barrel. Tin oxidises too but at around 500C ( easily reached in an air gun particularly a piston operated one ) it takes on the Stannic Oxide form which is a hard abrasive used to polish glass. The steel used in air gun barrels is actually a very soft steel, and in no time your £2000+ air gun is rendered useless.

      Lead piping isn't a problem NOW simply because they treat the water with phosphate which coats the inside of the pipe rendering it inert. Only soft water dissolves the pipes, so in some areas this was a real problem.

    • @lindosland
      @lindosland 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user23867 The danger is to humans and animals - lead harms the nervous system. The phosphate layer stops the lead dissolving in the water that humans are drinking. The pipe in the ground does no harm - usually it is under tarmac or concrete and not affecting drinking water. Eventually it will be removed and melted down for reuse. Lead shot and pellets that end up in animals might be eaten. Lead shot and pellets that end up in the ground are not easily reclaimed, or detected - they are there forever and may be concentrated in one area which might be used for food production years or decades later. They may eventually dissolve in the (soft) rainwater and poison drinking water supplies.

      get some bullet molds and make your own pellets. As you say, the lead is available in old water pipes and batteries etc - don't breathe the fumes from battery lead! melt it and skim off the impurities off outside before using the pure lead. take a example from the usa during prohibition which outlawed alcohol a whole clandestine cottage industry grew up around bootleg liquer - they will never learn - you can't ban a popular product from the people - you can only drive the price up and push it onto the black market.

    I'm not from the UK, but i think going to other materials for projectiles is all about disarming the general public.
    What i've heard about the subject is,
    Older shotguns are not always pressure rated for steel shot.
    Copper shot over a fibre wad eats up shotgun barrels.
    Copper projectiles wear out rimfire and cf barrels.
    Airguns can't hit s barn door with lead free pellets.
    This isn't happening to the uk alone.
    Canada is cutting into firearm laws.
    The US will be very soon.
    Mainland Europe is going into en ammo crisis. Prices skyrocket due to covid shortages, now due to Ukraine. Lead will be banned as well because of the 2030 climate agreement.

      Completely disarming the public is one of our central banker-owned governments main objectives. What's actually been taking place for the past two years, worldwide, is the implementation of 'United Nations Agenda 21' legislation. Simply put, it's communism 2.0 for the 21st century, with communist China's odious 'social credit score' being introduced in all countries.
      The people responsible for this are, as I mentioned, the globalist central bankers, the richest and most powerful people on Earth. Here's what's taking place right now in Britain:
      The 'Online Safety Bill' is currently in draft form and the government is looking for additional ways to “strengthen” it. These changes are expected this year. Our corrupt, central banker-owned government are categorising what they refer to as 'misinformation' online in the same criminal bracket as rape and terrorism.
      “If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, this Bill is a motorway.” - internet lawyer Graham Smith
      The UK government is also planning to re-work our human rights laws to put an increased emphasis on “personal responsibility” and our supposed “duties to the wider society”, as well as preventing people “abusing” their rights. In otherwords, if the government say we should take part in an experimental medical treatment, all for the 'greater good', we'll have no way of refusing their demands. It's to be known as the British Bill of Rights.
      I hope this information helps you.

    Public water suppliers in the UK add phosphate to the water as it enters supply to inhibit lead dissolution from the lead piping.

    • @manofkentcatapultsgunsando5069
      @manofkentcatapultsgunsando5069  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of em are very broken down internally, you can put what you like in the water at the pump station and UV plants , it wont stop the pipe disintegrating

    • @lawny75
      @lawny75 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The phosphate mops up dissolved or exposed lead ions. So it doesn't care about the state of the pipe. The resulting lead phosphate is insoluble so you get a coating on the inside of the pipe of white/brownish crud, or it gets pushed along to somewhere where it can sink into a quiet spot. The aim is noboby drinks the free lead.
      I think the science on all this is pretty strong which doesn't mean it can never change, but it's really quite unlikely. A better option for contesting any restrictions might be to look to options for collecting and recycling the lead where this is do-able like indoors.
      FWIW - haven't tried lead-free pellets and I don't recycle my plinking........but maybe I should.

    We have been using lead shot for 200 years. Look at the amount fired on the great game shoots in the early 1900's. Then ask yourself where is all the dead and dying wildlife which lives on these estates? A proper survey needs to be conducted into what, if any, effect lead pellets are having, because I haven't seen such information yet.
    For example, why not examine the crop / stomach contents of pheasants and partridges to ascertain exactly how many lead pellets they have consumed? Or do blood tests to establish lead levels?
    It's just BS and the BASC have rolled over. I for one will never rejoin the pointless organisation.
    Fieldsports magazine recently published an article on the state of UK rivers. According the the HSE, in 2020, only 14% were deemed 'good' for wildlife and when tested for fertilizer content, it went to a 100% fail. In addition they report 400,000 instances of raw sewage being discharged into rivers by Water Companies.
    Further, Domestic cats are estimated to kill up to 270 MILLION birds and mammals in the UK every year.
    Surely, these issues have a far greater detriment to our wildlife than lead shot, but are almost completely ignored.

    Galena is in the environment. Using it for ammo only recycles it. Galena typically is found in hydrothermal veins in association with sphalerite, marcasite, chalcopyrite, cerussite, anglesite, dolomite, calcite, quartz, barite, and fluorite. It is also found in association with sphalerite in low-temperature lead-zinc deposits within limestone beds. Minor amounts are found in contact metamorphic zones, in pegmatites, and disseminated in sedimentary rock.

      @@lindosland Yea I've heard this argument a few times , but as every water company in the UK has different ideas on water treatment it's a bit hit and miss , it all comes down to the source of the water and whoever is treating it , sometimes the inside bore of the pipes I work on are completely broken down and flakey , and the bottom line is there lead and people are drinking out em 👍

    • @lindosland
      @lindosland 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@manofkentcatapultsgunsando5069 I agree that if the inside is flakey, it may be dissolving, or maybe it did in the past. The way to settle the matter is to test the level of water at the tap. I contacted Trent Water about this many years ago, having drunk water from a lead pipe throughout childhood. They put me onto a scientist who was really interested and genuine and went into detail and measurements. He assured me that phosphate treatment had ended the problem and I didn't have to rush to replace the pipe. The harm done by lead is subtle, and mostly to the brain, and the effects hard to diagnose, so I don't take it lightly. They took the lead out of paint (kids in poor areas were eating flaking old paint), then petrol (measurable IQ loss in children). The problem is that the world is so full of busy people, and cars, and everything now that all pollution is becoming a problem. When I was born there were only a third as many people on the planet, very few cars, and it's not so very long since there were only a million people in the UK (now 70 million). I guess back in the days of muskets we could afford to scatter lead about. Catching the pellets from practice targets seems a good idea and I will do that. I shoot rabbits, so I'm with you when it comes to needing effective pellets. Of course, depleted uranium pellets would probably be super good - fancy scattering those around as the military did in Iraq?!

    Then you get someone with nowt better to do than take a swipe at peoples pastimes .Maybe they need to take a long hard look in the mirror and ask themselves if they are putting their energies into the real problems people face day to day or a cheap shot at a minority.
    I took the lead pipe from the toby to the house out of here when we moved in i didnt like the thought of the kids drinking from lead there must be thousands of houses just round here that have no idea they are still on lead and the government are worried about a few airgun pellets............Crazy

    I agree that lead pellets are better, and am not sure what the solution is (raise permitted energy to compensate?) but the simple fact is that lead IS harmful to health. The harm is mostly to the nervous system, especially in children, hence the ban on lead in paint because they were eating the flakes of old paint on old buildings. The water pipes WERE dangerous to health, as I was growing up, but they aren't any more for a very good reason. Soft water dissolves the lead, while some hard water doesn't, and in particular phosphate forms an inert lead phosphate coating inside the pipe. My water authority told me that they add phosphate to soft water now to render the pipes safe. Just because you lived to a good age doesn't mean your brain wasn't compromised.

    I’m a builder and a shooter. If lead is that perilous to life and contaminants the water in the land, I agree completely with you. There are miles of lead pipes in the ground. Why ain’t we ripping off the lead roofing from historic buildings. Why are we using code 3,4 and 5 lead in building works to meet building regulations. YES just another wrap to stop shooting. If lead is that lethal then why on battle fields wild life and grass land thrives. Why are we still producing lead?? Why ain’t the shooting body’s standing up instead of rolling over. Alternative agenda I think. Great video

Vermin control, target shooting, vintage air rifles and rimfires, are all going to be crushed if this ridiculous ban goes ahead. Where are the facts about lead issues caused by shooting?

    • @Igotknobblies

      You didn't mention the poisoning of wildfowl by ingesting lead shot from shallow dabbling grounds. This voluntary move away from lead in wildfowling may save a few birds but in reality the lead is already out there. The Romans used it and its being picked up all over fields by people out metal detecting. However there, it ends. Ducks and dabbling grounds....gizzard grinding up fallen shot...that's as far as it goes. I use shotgun, rimfire and airgun. The shotgun made in 1886 and was my father's shoots acceptably with the new steel shot....yes, more expensive but not prohibitively so. If I were shooting woodies by the 100's for crop protection then I'd be concerned about cost then. Pest control with airgun and rimfire will never be the same. Grey squirrels, who kill more songbird chick's on the nest than domestic cats, are a major threat that need controlling. Using traps works but I can't physically Check the traps every day as required. Lightweight alternative ammo just won't have the power to do the job at range and many animals will crawl off to die a slow painful death. Concerns over birds eating the carrrion are really so rare. I clear up everything I shoot except foxes which have no bird likely to eat the carcass here in the UK.
      Air rifle target shooting has absolutely no bearing on any of this and the discipline will be lost to the likes of back yard plinkers. I've shot all my life, and eaten much that was shot with lead. We pass it through with minimal toxic effect. We don't have a gizzard! This is just another taxable benefit and way of getting rid of 'troublesome' guns for those in power. 2 nights ago I lost my 7 hens to the fox. I will kill it with lead. But that piece of lead weighs less than 0.1oz. That will rot away with the fox and be left in the ground, probably forever. I find lead bullets that were fired during the war or before with little perceptible oxidation, no more than lead on the roof, yet you could be talking 100's of kilos of lead on a roof. What about tea bags? They get thrown on my compost heap to rot away into new soil but not so..... Manufacturers don't use glue to seal them, the paper bag is laced with thermo plastic so they can heat seal them shut. My garden is therefore contaminated by micro plastic which may well be taken up by vegetables I grow. I then eat the veg and some of that plastic finds its way into my body tissues. There are many things wrong in this world but politicians take a knee jerk to the easily adapted items that may generate more cash, or help ban use of guns. Let's see how much of a lead ban by America. They'll just laugh and tell the authorities to feck off! Stop their shooting? No chance.

      Lead in solder was only banned in 1999 so there are many houses with soldered copper joints which contain lead - true its far less but still present and going straight into the home for human consumption. It wasn't;t so long ago that people used to run their tapes for a few tens of seconds to flush the lead through, but if course we don't do that because it 'wastes' water. Actually it wastes a lot less water than the water companies do but that's a different story.
      Just read that there are 63,000 tonnes of tyre rubber micro structure particles spread over the country, rivers, lakes, etc. every year. Thats from SUEZ the waste company's calculations. These micro particles are far worse for us and the environment, they get into everything, yet no one says anything about them - could it be because the self-righteous 'greens' all get around in rubber tyred vehicles. And they are only after banning shooting because they don't like it.
      Vermin controllers provide a service that few understand, yet they provide benefit, even to vegans, with that service, generally unpaid. Without vermin control the loss of precious food to species that will expand their numbers as the food supply is increased and continue to do so whether its food for vegans or cattle, sheep, pigs for normal people.
      I'm not saying eliminate all 'vermin' species just control their numbers and for that to be done humanely lead is required.

Likewise, Cadmium is gradually being replaced in yellow and red paints, originally on the basis that it was harmful to the environment as it was being washed down sinks during the cleaning of brushes.

    This Lead shot is bad for people and the environment all started in a big way in the 1960s thanks to some person flying a keyite in the shooting press claiming people can develop lead poisoning from eating lead shot in game birds. Next thing the greens jumped on the band waggon with lead in the environment. they went very quiet when it was pointed out that the Peak District and Derbyshire have Lead naturally on and in the surface soil so people should not go walking for pleasure because of the Lead toxicity that did not suit the cause at all but now they are back banging the Lead drum again. This Lead ammunition for shot guns can not be policed, how on earth are they going to check on a private land or estate owner with regards to the type of shot or type of bullet they are using possibly catching them in mid flight at 2000 feet a second. Realistically I am glad my clay shooting days are coming to an end and my sons will have to cope with all this bull shit. Keep your eye on Parliament any excuse to remove guns from the public has been their aim since the Russian revolution rattled their cages.

    They just don't want the population as a whole to know how to use guns. I have no idea what these guys have planned for our future, but having come from a country whose people are now suffering under a brutal, corrupt and fascist totaliterian regime, I am of the firm opinion that democracy which in essence is nothing but people determining their own future, would be in grave danger if the population were ultimately defenceless. Rights and Freedoms that we now enjoy ( clinging on to, to be precise ), were never given, but won by force from the very same people whose descendants are still at the helm in this country, in one shape or another. If in doubt, just look up the Peterloo Massacre of 1819 in Manchester. The British Cavalry running peaceful men and women down while protesting against inhumane working and living conditions. I often wonder why the BBC is so concerned with the gun laws of the USA?

      @@manofkentcatapultsgunsando5069 It is sad, the shame of it is that it is done under the evil banner of ' Globalism', but that we or rather our politicians, are at the vanguard of this evil movement. A select few are reaping the rewards, while the rest of the population are staggnating or are in retrograde motion. We now see a government in the UK, happily presiding over the highest ' official ' inflation figure in over 40 years, with the price of Gas and Petrol having gone up by around 55% withing a couple of months. While the majority of population are suffering and have to think about balancing eating food or going hungry, our chancellor is quite happy collecting nearly 50% of the price of Gas in tax and the VAT. Where is it all going? I guess banning Lead pellets takes priority over making sure that people have enought to eat with. Wait till the cold months when the shit will really hit the fan, and what have they come up with, The Right To Buy. The resurrection of a disasterous and failed 1980s policy of Thatcher that caused the social housing crisis that we now witness. Almost 60% of those council houses that were sold for next to nothing to the tenants have ended up in the hands of the landlords.

      btw, they complain about the environment?????
      So why are they, our governments in our western democratic Free countries, sending major weapons towards eastern europe?
      And what about the shit that is still in the ground from WW2 and 1?
      And what about the shit that is used in military practise?
      These dips in government should all be taken care of.
      I do not understand why people had no problem hanging Mussolini upside down, and yet people seem to accept EVERYTHING from the dictators that are now in power in those socalled Free Democratic Western Countries. (who can believe such nonsense that we are free........ is delusional).

      a british historian, perhaps you know him, said: If soldiers who went up the beaches in Normandy to fight for freedom and democracy could see Great Britain as it is today, they would not have gone up those beaches.
      We might just as well call our western democratic society by its real name: Soviet Union.
      There is almost no difference anymore between over here and over there.
      So who are the Ukranians fighting?
      Basically their own people.
      Because a clown is continuesly provoking his neighbour.
      And now the US is giving away major weapons.
      It is only a matter of time before the real "Great Reset"
      That stuff is gonna escalate pretty soon.
      HOPEfully people have learned something from the past. But this is impossible, because the Victors write history.
      And nobody has ever taken the time to ask if these victors have told us the truth.
      So, did they tell us the truth about Hitler and his friends?
      Or is it one big gigantic lie?

      @@manofkentcatapultsgunsando5069 i came to your video after watching AAR news channel. (i assume you know the channel as well)
      Seriously ridiculous what people accept these days.
      There is a reason Muricano's are allowed to carry a gun. The second article in the constitution is clear enough for everyone to read.
      But i wonder if people will ever use it, this article.
      The Muricano's are a bit late on that, and keep accepting tyranny over a real Free and Democratic country.
      People accepted the event in 1963 eventhough a blind person is able to see the major problems.
      Like Lemmings we are heading for a cliff, and like lemmings we will step over the edge.
      And perhaps on the way down we might start thinking.
      But, the only thought that will pop up is: is this gonna hurt?
      The British Historian (who was discredited, beaten up, jailed, etc etc, for writing books about what he found in the archives) was right. And is right.
      These clowns call the Russian leader a dictator. And they try to sell the story that it was Russia who is the agressor.
      I wonder why we should believe such nonsense.... Because we did not believe such nonsense when Germany told us 80 years ago.
      Infact, we made sure Germany would for ever keep their mouth shut.
      And yet now its Ukraine. And the entire western democratic society is against the socalled Agressor, Russia.
      People have short memory. Only have to look back as far as 2014 to realize who the real agressors are.
      But who cares.
      They hung Mussolini upside down for some reason.
      But now a days people accept everything they are told.
      Sorry for the lengthy and somewhat offtopic comments, but i get angry because of all this nonsense people accept these days.
      Its becoming a shithole

      Lead piping isn't a problem NOW simply because they treat the water with phosphate which coats the inside of the pipe rendering it inert. Only soft water dissolves the pipes, so in some areas this was a real problem. The danger is to the nervous system, so just because you live to a good age doesn't mean your brain wasn't compromised. Lead was taken out of petrol because it was affecting kids' IQ.
