***UPDATE*** Do Not make my mistake. After chasing no oil pressure on a fresh 355. We pulled oil pump Melling HV55 to inspect. Nothing wrong. I told my son to check bottom of pan for maybe we forgot a rag or something. He comes up with Timing gear teeth. Pulled mains /looked good/ pulled t-cover only to find half the teeth missing on lower gear. Culprit was 2 cam galley plugs pushed out of the front of block got caught in middle of dbl roller and granaided sprocket. For the love of god please taps those cam 1/4 pipe plugs. Especially when using a HV pump. Lesson learned. Now i have to put the puzzle together and find all the teeth.
Question, I've bought a few flat tappet cam 350 Chevy cars and trucks over the years from 1969 to 1990 and not once did the dealer say I had to break in the flat tappet cam in the motor, so why now?
I GOT A 1990 K5 BLAZER 5.7 WITH ECU GOT ENGINE REBUILD GOT THE BLOCK BORED 30 OVER AND DID A FEW UP GRADES IM USING EX262H CAM IN IT WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD COVERTER TO USE I TOOK THE STOCK ONE OUT..AND GOT 2000 TO 2400 STALL .. IS THAT GOOD WITH THAT CAM
A 2000 stall converter is recommended for that camshaft, be careful going too high. Things like gearing weight and engine torque can all play a role in the actual stall speed. Make sure you use a lock-up converter if the application supports this. Higher stall speed converters can generate increased transmission heat, especially in a heavier vehicle. I would suggest using an efficient transmission oil cooler routed in series after your stock cooler. Additionally, there is a good chance you might have some compatibility issues with the stock throttle body system and that camshaft. You may need to look into a TBI fuel injection upgrade for optimum performance. www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/fluid-coolers?N=fluid-cooler-type%3Atransmission-fluid www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/fuel-injection-systems?N=universal%3Ayes%2Binjection-style%3Athrottle-body
Welcome to the hobby, Robert! Besides cost, there really is not much advantage, plus flat tappet cams require performance-based oil with a higher zinc content and are limited in grind profiles. Roller cams are superior in performance and life expectancy. Because you are an admitted newbie, I think the best thing I can do for you is to refer you to this article in Hot Rod magazine, Flat vs. Roller Tappet: Which Is Better? You will be able to read in detail and with some visualization about roller and flat tappet camshafts. Let us know when you are ready to make a move to a new bump stick, and we can get you set up. www.hotrod.com/articles/flat-vs-roller-tappet-better/
So I’m new to this and recently bought a sloppy stage 3 cam after ordering it and receiving it I notice it was a flat tappet cam and i have a ls3 and new ls7 lifters this setup will not work correct?
no lsx 3 are roller lifter's so it would kill the cam and your lifter-set as the 2 style's are ground differently. if you look into flat tapets there video's of them body spining as the cam turns vs the link bar on roller to stop that from happening as it has roller's to do that differently and a roller cam is ground flat 90* vs flat tap is 70* ish to make it spin clockwise in the lifter-bore and for cam thrust control
@@richardprice5978 sorry I was mislead by the internet I did more research and had found out it was the right came and not a flat tapper thank you for your response

So is it me or in this video for installing a flat tappet cam and lifters is the tech adjusting roller rockers? Lol I'm guessing just some stock footage they used.
What’s the reason why flat taps are still popular and or sold?? Most engines now have roller camshaft and oe or aftermarket ones for them and most of the time there reasonably priced at close to the same or less money up front or at least after having to pay the running costs it’s way cheaper in 2020. The only time that I can see why is some oddball engine that never came with a roller and isn’t in common use anymore or wasn’t sold in large quantity in the first place. As for me and my oil/maintenance wallet I’m not going back to flat camshaft at all in less I’m working on some oddball old classic and it’s my last choice that or not fix it and I’d rather fix it
Odd ball engines not common never in large quantity in the first place. Well now. Roller cams are great, but sometimes the $800, $900 difference doesn't fit some people's oddball unpopular budgets. If someone is bucks up, that's great. Some have to take a different route. If flat tappets are popular, maybe people like them!
@@mikef-gi2dg even model t ford's engine has a retro fit cam i believe so the numbers of engines that cant use a roller are getting smaller as time go's bye
@@jamezz3536 that's a false idea of looking at it as most people thats modify there engines end-up buying more than one grind trying to find the one there most happy with and in my case i had a BBM v-8 flat cam go bad so now that's 600X2 $ USD at least as the cam and lifter's are a pair and block-ish is a pair after break in un like a roller and roller's don't need the $$ addive pack's to live ect. so if the rollers are ok its what 200-600 for a roller cam and if 1 roller-lifter go's out and no other damage then what 50$ or so not a new cam-set like the other style requirements are @ 300+ dollars
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars, trucks and busses including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
So you say all the people of Europe and America will bow down to the NAZI swine who are pushing this? They will throw away their reliable cars to buy expensive crappy electric battery cars that they can't afford? I keep hearing this but I do not see how they can force it on the public without a revolution. Even in China they could not do that.

In the video it looked like Edelbrock supplied hard faced flat tappets, why did they choose those?
Fresh edelbrock cam and lifters in my car and one lifter gave out within a few hundred miles. Would never buy again
Ajudem por favor, qual kit de corrente dupla uso num bloco identico a esse do vídeo, para usar comando comp 12-107-3?????
Hello! What is the advantage of a flat tappet camshaft vs a hydraulic roller? Is it an higher RPM thing? Thanks a newbie here. Cheers from Motown.

Edelbrock makes an E- Street that is for flat tappet cams only. Why would a big outfit like that, do that?
