I don't Patreon because I'm poor and not interested in Zoom calls. But, I almost always leave comments because the conversations are consistently stimulating, so I certainly thank you for that.

In my opinion one of the things that make the social media a bad place for debates is the fact that there are no real life consequences for being rude or mean or worse since everyone is behind a screen and distant. Unlike in real life conversations where people face each other and behaving in an ill-mannered would have consequences. When you see someone personified in real life unlike when someone is just an avatar on your phone or your computer screen. People tend to forget that in the heat of reading something they don't fully agree with. Also social media makes some people seek attention and engagement in an addictive way while sometimes real conversations and debates can have a long and possibly boring parts so a logical fallacy or a disinformation composed of a single sentence can go viral while a long deconstruction piece of critical thinking won't be viewed as much by the same amount of people.

For me personally, what really matters, and why we should ever engage in disagreement is the self-invention, the new thoughts brought to the table. Because at the end of the day, as we unravel, only the thoughts that persists actually matter. So we can integrate them to our consciousness-fabric of mind. And thats why i hold your work so dear guys. All the best in 2025

When Ellie said Nitche didn’t believe in virtue or whatever that one time… David was not going to be hearing that. 🤭 like really Ellie?! 🙄 Ik it was not meant to be funny but I remember chuckling a little bit.

I myself am a painter and studied something called Poietics by Rene Passeron. Which was introduced as a part of philosophy of art. Since then I wonder a lot who and what artist or Artist is. What is a work of art and who or how decide or define it,,,, Human can mimic or lie or at least manipulate, so art is mimesis,,, but at the same time somehow something comes out in front,, then poiesis,,,, In human history artist did NOT exsist so long while art exsisted so long,,,,, I enjoyed this episode. Thank you.

Hi. Really enjoying this. Would like to know, just out of curiosity, if the speaker can describe in brief an instance where he outlined a conclusion that 'goes against received scientific wisdom'. Thank you!

Ellie Anderson: "...not because I'm an elitist..." "...not elitism or snobby..." I don't understand the critique of elitism, nor its association with snobbism. Of course, it depends upon the definition. Any form of ambition is, in a sense, elitist. Or, should we aspire to mediocrity? I don't believe that it's possible to square the circle, have our cake and eat it too; aspire, yet deny the social implications of our aspirations. I'm an elitist.

@@mohammedabubaker9308 I think that Nietzsche was right, but that doesn't make me an Ayn Rand acolyte :)

Aspiring for something is not elitist. The association exists because elites are usually the ones to exhibit snobbness rather than non-elites. Also- just because you are good in one thing does not mean you are better than someone else, because they have things in which they are better than you too

@@Nickers19 I've found that snobbishness exists in all walks of life, and actually have no idea who these "elites" are to which you are referring. People with money, politicians? They appear more bent nowadays on demonstrating their common touch. Where did I say anything about being "better" than someone else? I don't even know what that moral judgement would even imply. I see the opposite, an insecure society that denigrates and denies intellectual achievement. Logan Pearsall Smith once wrote, unabashedly: "The word "snob" belongs to the sour grapes vocabulary".

Newtonian physics isn't just a working hypothesis, a useful fiction. It's a set of rules that are operable in a given domain, in no way less accurate than quantum operations are at another level. So, I'm not convinced by this analogy.

They don't treat it as a working hypothesis, instead they subscribe to an anti-realist perspective in philosophy of science regarding Truth. Whereby scientific models (such as newtons theorys) don't access the Truth but instead only approximate it. Rather than science being a collection of facts, it instead consists of useful models.
