My grandson and I planted some gala apple seeds in a pot that were germinating in the apple when I cut it open. One thrived and the others died so my son planted the little tree in my yard. It's doing well 8 years later. He cherishes that tree. It hasn't borne fruit yet but it's getting bigger every year and grew a lot this summer. It's exciting for him still even though he's 13 years old. He will talk to that tree and sit and look at it and smile!

I planted 4 date seeds. I forgot you said it takes a while. After a couple of weeks, I gave up and stuck the peat pots in the corner. A couple months later, I needed a pot. Grabbed one, dug at the soil to loosen it up, and I found a tiny little seedling under the soil. I wasn't sure what it was because I had previously tried to grow an avocado pit in the same soil. It is now an inch tall, and definitely a date. I'm so happy. I love madjool dates!

When eating an apple while driving, I always throw the Apple core out the window, where it will land in soil, and I tell it to grow, as I throw it. in the early 80s, I was a firefighter, and drove 6 miles on a dirt road to get to work. I always threw my apple cores out the window. My friends always teased me, and said, "You don't really think they will grow, do you?" I always said, "It could happen!"
I took my son up the in 1989, and as I was driving up the road, I saw an apple tree! We stopped to pick some apples, but the weren't ripe yet. When we got to the Helibase where I had worked, I asked someone about the apple tree. None of the people I used to work with still worked there, but I was told, "There was a woman who used to work here, and she always threw her apple cores out the window, and told them to grow! I guess one did!"
My 2 year old son said, "That was my mommy, and she still does that!" 😊 mommy

You do not need seeds to plant MORINGA! We just cut a twig or branch( here in the Philippines) that's about a foot long, bury half of it in soil and - VOILA! You will have a seedling in a few weeks- they grow really fast, we eat them especially in soups- MORINGA Is a superfood, one of the few plants that's rich in calcium! It has a nigher amount of Vitamin C than citruses, a huge amount of Vitamin A too and so much more! I learned how to grow pecans from seed for a truffle lab a few years ago and I had to do lots of research before I got started. For anybody who is interested in growing pecan trees: if a pecan floats, it's alive, but if a walnut floats, it's dead, and do not soak the pecans for more than 12 hours at a time without changing the water--they'll drown.

Put in a few moringa, lychee, mango and jackfruit seeds, closed the lid (2 flapping lids) allowing a little gap and put it in full sun. Made sure the mixture stayed moist at all times. Several of these seeds germinated and then I then transplanted them to bigger pots and some in the ground.

I didn't count, but I would guess I had greater than 60% germination in about a month (I wasn't tracking time well either). The seedlings are sitting outside in grow bags now in central Florida.

Nice, our own personal method is let the bunch soak for about a week, changing out the water every other day or so, then putting in a container full of sand with clear plastic wrap (kicten cling wrap, shipping wrap, etc.) to keep in the moisture. The roots seem to start the same time either way, but the shoots seem to start sooner and with more reliability after soaking and staying in the sand. It's funny how it looks with the shoot almost coming out of a sheath on the root when we transplant them, but they grow pretty well for us that way.

Last year I missed most of my plums as they fell in storms. Now I have hundreds of seedlings growing. I've also saved this years stones from my harvest. You've really got me thinking about the home nursery idea. What better business to start with impending food shortages than one that creates future food security for people! I have loads of pots so I just need some compost and away I go!! I can even use some of the seedlings as root stock to graft on prunings from my existing trees - I have two varieties so chances are most of the seedlings are hybrids. I could offer the two pure varieties from grafts and a surprise variety too from the seedlings or self-planted stones. Thanks for a really inspiring video (even if most of the trees you mention won't grow where I am)

I’ve been so inspired by this channel. I extracted the inner pit in the way you suggested of a yellow mango ( I’ve heard them called champagne mangoes) and planted it. Within a very few days it sprouted. A couple of days later I find four sprouts from the same seed. I feel like a winner to get a polyembryonic as you taught. I hope it does ok. We are in the middle of my zone 8A heat wave. I also direct sowed an avocado pit. I’ve always found it hard to throw away a seed. Now it’s even harder with the potential you show. Thanks.

My dad showed me native paw paw trees in Indiana, and we tasted the fruit. The taste reminded me a little of banana. We also harvested native quarter sized persimmons every fall to make persimmon pudding. A big job, as the fruit needs to pass through a sieve to separate the sticky pulp from the skin and seeds. The wild persimmons are so rich and sweet in flavor when fully ripe, but bitter when not ready. When they are ready the fruit is already mushy with only the very thin skin of the fruit holding it together.

Wow, what useful info. I love to grow things from seed. My pride so far, a papaya that started from seed, probably 8 yrs ago. It was moved several times & am ashamed to say it was abused over the yrs. Finally decided to devote more time & baby it about 4 yrs ago. Last yr, it produced fruit. They died. Kept my caring regiment. Later in the year, I saw fruit again. (I live in SoCal) perhaps the weather helped w/the 2nd fruit. Because it's in a planter, I know I won't get large regulation sized fruit. I didn't. The biggest was about 5in long. The rest (3) were even smaller. However, they were all seedless. Beautiful yellow sweet papayas w/no seeds. Still have a few smaller fruit waiting to ripen. I'm happy. 🤗

23:43 There is more to papaya than meets the eye. Papaya trees come in male, female and hermaphrodite. Male trees will not give you fruit. Female trees alone will not give you fruit. You need a male tree or a hermaphrodite to pollinate a female tree. Hermaphrodite trees can pollinate themselves. The fruits have different shape and the flowers are different too. If you look at the pictures at time marker 24:47 the papaya on the left is more rounded. That is a papaya from a female tree. The papayas on the right are more elongated and the flowers also have long stems, that's a hermaphrodite tree.
The thing is that you don't know which you are getting until you plant them and they start to bare flowers.

This is true. Jesus told the fig tree, no fruit you die. I prayed over my avocado which I planted from seed and the neighbors all laughed. It became so heavy with fruit the limbs couldn't hold it and the squirrels would go to the top where i couldn't pick and cut them loose, then I took them. I felt bad so I left them a few each day out of their days work for helping me.

I am in Belize now and have started avocados, tropical almond, tamarind, star fruit, sapote, mango, passion fruit all from seed. I have grown several citrus seed varieties that were dried for years. Grapefruit, lemon & orange they sprouted and grew to be just 3-4 foot bushes due to I live in New York State.
I never expected them to fruit due to the 4 season climate. I'd still have them if it weren't for the fire at My house December 2020.
They lived for about 15 years losing most of their leaves every winter growing them back in spring. I watered them all throughout the year.

@@tinawindham6958 Well said - with balloons polluting the countryside, rivers or seas but also often responsible for choking and suffocating birdlife which is horrific. Growing a tree is helping Nature also, including bees, birds and wildlife in general.
