I bought this new in 1983. By 1998 when I moved to Europe I had only needed to have it serviced once. I was a heavy tape trader in the 80's so this unit was used alot. It worked perfectly up until I shipped it but somewhere between Long Island and Prague a fork lift blade destroyed it. Loved this VCR!
Thanks for posting this. I've got the same model and it works but sometimes it has the same issue. I think that was the only belt that I didn't replace when I first got it. Top marks.
Indeed, failure to complete the loading cycle is a common issue with JVC's of this era. Given the age of these machines, it's good practice to simply replace all the belts, along with as many of the rubber components as you can get your hands on (idler, pinch roller, etc, etc). Interesting how the bulb doesn't stay lit all the time like in the previous generation of machines, presumably to prevent nuisance breakdowns when the bulb inevitably burns out! 💡
Hey there! Your door opens so smooth and slow, mine will "pop" open when i hit eject. Is there a spring or mech that slows the door down that i don't have on mine? Thanks for your time
