Very natural, patient counter-attacking play from Ding, totally took over the middle-game. Thanks Jerry for the branches of analysis, very informative!
By far the best game analyses here in YT -- I feel like I understand chess! ;) Really, keep up the great work --- and don't change your unique style, it's a gem. Enjoying the strategic ideas from the opening, but above all the calm, dialogical way to explain the positions with no eval bar and just a little amount of SF only when needed. Refreshing!
If i ever needed a new ChessNetwork video, it's tonight. I'll probably follow it up with a 'this may put you to sleep' vid. moving tomorrow, wish me luck. need a good rest hehe
Top game, that makes the battle for thr world championship even more interesting. Also in many other aspects quite instructive. Well presented. Thanks for showing.
Great video, as always. I've been subscribed to you since I was in high school! Thanks for being such a prolific source of chess knowledge, and fabulous commentary.
Gukesh's light and dark bishops moves was bad. Look at the stupid dark bishop in the corner. And his move light square bishop exchange was bad here . Coz at least it was looking at blacks half broken King's camp. @@ChessNetwork.
Ding is such a monster in these kinds of slow maneuvering games. To find a winning path is hard enough in a game like this, but to do it without even an inaccuracy is mind boggling. It may not be flashy, but it's precise.
No surprise considering ding has shown to find lines not even stock fish considers winning at times. He did find an impossible mate against nepo in the world championship.
Wonder if this year’s Gukesh is better than 15 year old Gukesh? In the Candidates, he seemed to find better winning chances by playing more assertively than otherwise. Can’t wait to see what happens in the WCC.
These two both prefer the same type of careful amnouvering, I just suspect that Ding is better at it than Gukesh, looking forward to a high level championship later in the year. Thanks Jerry.
The position after Nxc7 and Kf8, Stockfish 16 at a depth of 24 evaluates at -2.5. Personally over the board, I would feel I was losing in this position. Open f file for a rook to occupy, pressure on the f7 point by LSB and the queen, potentially losing the rook on a8.
Its not that. Since Gukesh is still a very young player, there isn't many games where he has won against top players such as Ding, of course it will change with time. So Jerry analyzing their past encounters for WCC preview, we find more games where Ding won rather than the other way around.
@@FahimHoq Although, I do I think there is a prevalent opinion among chess fans that Ding has lost a step since the WC and may even be an underdog vs the hot Gukesh. I think these last two vids by Jerry do a fantastic job of reminding people just how dangerous Ding still is. This game being from this year is especially impressive.
The two have only played two classical games. Ding won both. Jerry has rightly covered both as they are relevant for speculation going in to the match.
@stoutlager6325 I agree. I love the fact that Jerry covered these games. I meant the sample size is small as its only 2 games, so we can't tell who is supposed to be the favorite in WCC later this year.
@josephulmer5208 I have also seen comments where people underestimated Gukesh as well. Ding is a fantastic player, no doubt, I think he will be back to his best, as defending world title is a massive motivation. However, we saw in the candidate that Gukesh has improved a lot in a short space of time. He looks much stronger compared to even last year. In the Candidates, he managed to hold his own against the likes of Fabi, Nepo, Hikaru, etc. Had those player were challenging Ding, no one would have doubted their strengths. So if Gukesh can win a tournament with them in there, then I believe Gukesh is also capable of challenging even peak form Ding Liren.
That was dizzying in its calculations. Tho most of the middle game was beyond me, one thing I did notice that - rightly, it turns out - sent up red flags, was Gukesh’s stacking his Rooks along a defensive diagonal. I almost never do that anymore, because it seldom turns out happy.
I watch many game reviews. THIS review is one of the very best that I have watched over many many years. And I am not a nice guy per say. Props be props.
@@fizzbronson4279 I'm glad Jerry is posting videos so that everyone knows how strong Ding is. He, even though the current world champion is not being taken seriously since his horrendous performance in the last tournament. But that doesn't change the fact that he is still one of the best there is and should never be underestimated. But I don't understand what your beef is? Did someone beat you or didn't love you back? What's wrong with you?
What's wrong with covering games from the players from the WC coming up? If it's the fact that Ding wins both games he covered, that is because there are no classical games with Gukesh winning, because the two haven't played that much.
Maybe the Chinese govt surgically implanted a device into Ding's brain that allowed him to receive stockfish moves during the game! But Ding deliberately loses a few games to make it seem like this isn't the case until...... the championship of the world! hey, it's possible. You don't know what lengths dictators will go to! They need to do full-body x-ray b4 every match! nice commentary! Very easy to follow.

Love the tale of the tape visualized in the end. Thanks Jerry.

The configurations in these games are funky and would be confusing but for your analyses. Thanx Jerry.

Thanks for the video! Looking forward to watching.

So instructive. Thank you Jerry
I honestly want Ding to perform well in the match. It should be one to remember if he does...
Ding is goin Back-to-Back.. 2x World Champion 🏆♟️🏆
So cool how it’s not a very closed position at the time, but the knight is the much stronger piece. Really cool from Ding to figure that out OTB.

the position was equal bro, it was just harder to play for his opponent

I'm a big fan of this clear valuable game analysis❤❤❤❤
Thanks Jerry mate
I tried to do my homework but I fell asleep

Love the sharp play by Ding
Kramnik would find Ding's last 14 moves veri veri interesting

He won both games they've ever played with the black pieces and earlier this year. Gukesh is clearly the underdog in this match.
Jerry, at 2:00 how the White Queen Knight is going to trouble Black bishop ? Isn’t Bb6 an option for Black ?
Thank you Jerry

No inaccuracies... wow.
The bishop reminds me one of the games betweeen spassky v fischer in their championship match.
...excellent analysis!
Well, at least there are people who enjoy learning. Just do not like not knowing who or what I am playing against.

Did Liren really make the perfect move for 14 turns straight? Wow.
Look up Capablancas book chess strategy where he plays g5 and kills the bishop like here.
Mate, why dont you live stream?
he does occasionally stream at twitch ( titled tuesdays for example).
He does. I got to play hand and brain w him on stream before
More of this Chinese dragon, please
hell yeah jerry
On form ding liren is as good as stockfish.
Ding Liren undoubtably will win him in the WCC
I doubt considering his recent poor form
I wouldn’t be so sure.
well it wont be only Liren vs Gukesh but also China vs India so it will be mutch more interesting games and not easy as this one...

Hmmm, let's see....
@chessclassics3 times candidates experience couldn't help those Japanese and Italian guys , surely the kids luck is unmatched
He played weak for a loong time, maybe je starts ro gez serious again now
Sometimes DING plays like stockfish, but for most of 2024 he played like a 1200.
Both his wins against Gukesh were in 2024 and were both with the black pieces. He's going to crush this kid.
Gukesh has too much time to prepare before candidate no-one predicted his win but he won.@@abebuckingham8198
I'm sensing a little favoritism for Liren. Just saying...
2/2 is not statistically significant. Also, Gukesh has never beaten Liren in classical, the two haven't played that much.
They have played exactly two games with classical time controls and Liren won both of them. That's not favoritism it's just reality.
Reality seems to favor ding.. lol
Very confused! How was the actual game played? Unsubscribed for good.
lol he's just showing the potential lines. Not that hard to follow.
I just seat to eat and video show up, wp 😊
