Good Luck! Had mine done 3 years ago and did a 5 mile hike along a lake in ice and snow on day 21. Don't let anybody tell you to take it easy. I'm 62 and the hospital head of PT offered me a job on my first visit at two weeks. You're in good shape, it will be a piece of cake after a few days!
Take care and have a speedy and healthy recovery! Kim and Lilly will be your best help and company. Please follow the doctor’s recovery plan and stick to the PT schedule to the T. I went through this in June 2021 and missed out on the summer season. It may have slowed me down down, but I’m still able to get back out there and so will you🙂 Following the recovery plan will speed up how well and soon you will be able to get back out there. Please take your time and stay healthy. (If you would like any info regarding my experience or if could be of any help please message me)
Good luck with the surgery! Let us know how it goes. I've was told I needed replacement a few years ago and have been struggling to avoid it. I'm to the point in pain and ability to get around where I'm not sure if I can avoid it much longer! I hope all goes well for you!
I actually talked my surgeon into Bi-Lateral knee. (Both knees replaced on the same day) I was afraid of: 1. That I wouldn't go back for the second one. 2. I wanted to get them over asap, to get back to work. BAD IDEA! There were too many things I didn't think of that you can't do without at least one knee! Just one, is going to the bathroom! When these guys tell you work hard on your PT. DO IT! Or you'll never be the same! I should have done more, but you just don't feel like it. DO IT ANYWAY! Just as importantly, before and after the removal of your staples, they are going to itch like hell. When you scratch, it feels amazing. DON'T DO IT! That's a good way to get an infection! Titanium harbors infection, so if it happens, they have to remove your new knee and put in an anti-biotic spacer! You get a pic line installed because you have to get anti-biotic injections every day for at least 6 weeks! I had my Bi-Lateral knee surgery done in 2016. My left knee got infected and I had to go through all that in 2017. To this day I have 1-Titanium Knee and 1-Spacer. It hasn't give me any trouble so I'm not gonna go looking for any! Good luck, and remember, this ain't no vacation! Get to work ASAP!
