Stunned by this from the first second of the first listen. Magical song, voice packed with character and pain, the ethnic atmosphere in this is impeccable. And on top of this, a fantastic piece of storytelling and songwriting, lyrics and meaning with great analogy. I loved that the staging, his styling and the overall ambience gave me full Stromae-Multitude vibes. It's a gem and a popular one i think among the Portuguese people, i think it's either him or Mimicat for the win (you will most probably love Ai Coracao too so i'm waiting for your reaction).
My winner 😊 His just starting his career, after placing 4th in The Voice Portugal, where each cover he created was a masterpiece itself. He’s really hardworking, creative and passionate about what he does. He’s very driven and already has a distinctive sound, style and identity . He created the music and lyrics for this song and also the stage concept.

I didn't know anything about Edmundo before the Festival but he had a winning career on The Voice. The most characteristic instrument we listen to is the lute. About claustrophobia, the message of the song has to do with two things, according to him: being accepted in a different social environment and being accepted in a new professional world that has closed circuits that need to be broken. In other words, it is not easy to join the party, (festa) it makes you want to run away. There are problems that weigh on you, barriers that arise, and against which you have to fight. And even when you have talent, not everyone can shine at the festa. This was the claustrophobia you felt. I've been listening to the songs and this one is my favorite. He's perfect in every detail. But I also like the one by Inês Apenas and the one by Voodoo Marmalade. But all in all, this is my winner. I am Portuguese. ;)

I think it enhances the qualities of the entry as a whole even further and I'm so happy to learn about it. People will vote for a song that's more immediate and obvious than this one, one that wears out after just a few for some of us, even though it's the song you'd expect to break through at a festival. I prefer songs that take a while to settle in us but that, once assimilated, stick to us like a disease, haha! He might be too unique for most, so I'm hoping for a miracle!
Curious that you got the "claustrophobic" feeling without understanding the lyrics, since they're about the singer being in a "festa" (=party) and in a space he feels he doesn't belong and wanting to get out of it. The party is an analogy to the music industry and how fake, closed-off and elitist it can be (i.e., only some people can get it into the party) and how someone needs to conform to that fakeness and needs to put up appearances in order to succeed. I guess it means the instrumental is doing its job in aiding the lyrical content. ^^ Festival da Canção as usual, can be unpredictable about who will win, but I'd say that as of now, this is one of the 3, 4 favorites.

It's also one of two songs that I think had a completely perfect performance. Everything about this works well live and it immediately grew from about the middle to one of my favourites from the selection.

I must say I’m not the biggest Eurovision Song Contest fan as most of the songs I could say they fit in a similar package. Europop and fireworks is really not my thing But sometimes you have these pure gems that could feel like too much quality for this kind of event. I remember when France took Sebastian Tellier - and though the song wasn’t brilliant I was shocked in the best way possible Meanwhile Edmundo brings this masterpiece. I cannot be impartial because I got hooked to it the first time I listen to it and my thoughts were exactly “Too much quality for this contest” With this I’m trying to say that it could be a victim of its own success as some people might not FEEL the song. I think that “Aí coração” also could be a good representation for Portugal and could get a higher place. Could. But it doesn’t have the class and the elegance that “A Festa” has In the second semi of FdC I think it lacked something and I’m hoping Edmundo brings the parade higher for this song deserves to go to ESC. Portugal being Portugal with a fresh twist and much class. All hands on Edmundo and his Festa 💪🏼

The running order for the final is out and Edmundo got the golden slot! (Second to last). I think this could upset the other fandom favourites and end up representing Portugal, which makes me hope for Switzerland, Israel or Azerbaijan to not be that strong, because the 1st Eurovision Semi is starting to give me 2018 Semi1 flashbacks.
Personally, A Festa is my favourite song from FDC Portugal this year. I was a bit underwhelmed with the live performance. Vocally & musically it was outstanding but the styling & staging was a major letdown for me. It needed something more to elevate the song. Mimicar camp is very much alive I see. Far from ? Please..I'm not 100% on board with Ai Coracao (still one of my favourites) but I would never say it's vastly inferior. It will be disrespectful to Mimicat as she's performed very well. If she wins, absolutely no problem with that. But I'm strongly rooting for Edmundo
I agree the staging needs some improvement. After that who cares what Eurovision might think. Portugal should stick with that they're doing and occasionally they can drop a Salvador Sobral on us. Who knows.
I thought the staging was ok, but most importantly his performance shined through, he seemed relaxed and open, and was very relatable- like he was sharing a real part of himself with the audience, and that is very special (not easy to do).

It's so good! And the funny thing is it's not the best song in this selection imo, that would be Ai Coracao by Mimicat.
For me, "Ai Coraçao" is the best song, but "A Festa" is the best overall performance, and I think it would stand out more in Eurovision. 🤔
