this made me so emotional, but in a good kind of way. i loved it from start to end. the editing is insane, didn't expect anything less from julien.
so the great thing to the onigiri is that the plastic wrap is in between the nori and the rice so it stays crunchy and fresh while it’s waiting in the store for you to buy it. also Rome was right about how to open it! you pull the tab down the middle (think of how you pull that plastic tab on an american pack of gum) and then pinch the right corner off and then the left. i’m glad you had a good trip Julien, Japan has been on my bucket list since i was a little kid. this video just made my desire to go grow even stronger!

It's been almost 10 years since I lived in Japan. I still miss it. This vlog made my heart happy. Those students were so sweet. Nice seeing Rome again too. ❤ You're so talented, Julien. GOD I miss these vlogs from Julien. Truly on another level of editing/vlog -- saw someone else in the comments say it borders on documentary and I fully agree with that statement. They're alway gorgeous. Perfect ratio of talk, text, music, and content. I'm never like shut up or move on or let me scrub through this footage, it's always entertaining enough to watch all-the-way-through. Long time fan, 3rd time commenter or whatever but found this worthy of actual typing. GGs all around.

There was something you said that really stood out to me. You said it was your first time having the experience that something about your body meant that you were not welcome in a place. That really just smacked me in the face, as that is something I have grown up with and experienced my whole life. I don't even know what it feels like to not have that feeling. Sometimes I just still get surprised when I realize just how different our (everyone's) experiences of the world are.

I knew it would be pretty dense/ intense so I waited for a few days to feel ready for the awesomeness of this video. I am always curious how people view and experience my home country. I truly appreciate how you dove right into onigiri, enjoyed it but were confused by the packaging, and eventually figured out how to open it. That whole process kind of summed up this whole video experience.
