Nice recording! Temple of Apshai was my first RPG to play back then (1985) on my Commodore 64. I still have my copy from back then in the box with its 2 tapes (10+ minute load times lol). The audio on this Mac port is great how they pulled it off!
my older cousins had a C64 and I eventually bought all their stuff for less than 100 (ok price back then in 2004, would be a super good deal now) and one of the rare original disks in the pile was Temple of Apshai but I confess I've never tried it yet!
@@1BitFeverDreams If were confessing, okay here is mine... It's not the same game play but I like slashing around through the levels in Gateway to Apshai! hehe That was my first cart on the c64 and game in the Apshai series! In 2004 $100 for a whole collection was a great deal then too! ;)
Gorgeous recording of this tune, thank you! Apshai got ported to pretty much all home computer platforms of the 80s, but this rendition of the main theme is by far the most evocative in my opinion. Fun fact: You have to have a Mac 128k, 512k, or Plus in order to run this software and get the sound to play back correctly. It doesn't sound right in an emulator either. Using original hardware is the only option, which makes this recording so much more precious!
thanks for sharing that. And yeah, 84-85 are rife with games depending on the early old school version of the Sound Driver and fall apart in the Mac SE despite being the same CPU!
I wonder how Mac games would sound on Tandy DAC or Covox Speech Thing/Disney Sound Source/Generic LPT DAC
