Lyrics:
Riding in a moving truck again
Northern California dusk is barely hanging in
They need a music pastor at a church in Paradise
Here we come guys
Keeping my eyes wide open
For the long shadows
In the tall pines
Now what’s a winning twelfth grade girl want with a freshman
We took our shirts off in my bedroom, french kissing
Both lying to our parents
Keeping my eyes wide open
For the long shadows
In the tall pines
But it’s over now
I like it here anyway
Sunday church
Friends in the pews
What am I gonna do
Follow in my father’s footsteps
Or maybe music work I haven’t dreamt of yet
I hope it’s drumset
Keeping my eyes wide open
For the long shadows
In the tall pines
Dad waited til school let out
To confront his boss
For doing wrong
And it’s time to move again

The line "I hope it's drumset" hits different watching Dave play drums. 😭
Dave becoming the Levon Helm of his generation before our eyes
favorite song from the album, love seeing this.
God I love this song (and album) so much.
I moved a lot as a kid. My dad was a church worker. And this song just says it all
Love it...Dave...your song writing has really taken an amazing trajectory! I love this era of your biography LP's...can't wait for the next!!...from a Koo's Cafe attendee! Cheers
I have so many good memories of Koo's cafe!
Such a great song!!!
Magical
Truly, Rebecca on the synth takes this 2.0. Dave is so freaking mindful to have the deep synth to take up his usual bass play. This album is amazing!!
so freaking good. listening on repeat.
Tight as, wicked.
So beautiful...
It takes a lot to shut me up deep enough to truly have an absorb yet David manages to, last couple albums shut me up pretty good.
Love this man’s music.
,dan’
Watching him and the band live is another dimension, true visceral slow rock festival.
This is everything! 💖
such a great song!!
