Very nice build. $40k is reasonable to the enthusiast that knows what you have into it and how much labor is in it. The problem with ANYTHING custom is that you have to find the 1 person who wants the same thing. Great video!
Justin Spiguzza thing is...it's still a cat and will likely spend more time being wrenched on than riding. Personally, I'd start off with something that's a more reliable machine from the get go such as polaris or brp. I'd say yamaha too but even with the rekluse setups & shorter gearsets guys are still having issues keeping together when they start making big power.
Ok this is an old video but as I read the snide below clearly most have no ideA where the Z1 engine came from. Around 2006 Cat worked with Suzuki and offered the 1000cc z1 twin in the Jag Z1 snowmobile. No turbo, fuel injected only first year and rated around 125 hp. The engine quickly got a rep as bulletproof. After market Turbos were slapped on and drag versions were punching out over 300 hp and breaking records at tracks all over. Cat decided to quickly come out with their own tamed turbo version that punched out 180 hp plus. That sled was made in several versions over several seasons and eventually retired and replaced by the new Yamaha built triple turbo that has been dynoed in the sled at over 205 hp at the crank and was clocked at over seven to ten mph faster than the Suzuki built twin. So now a good used Z1 sled goes for four to six grand year and condition depending. So stuffing these refreshed motors in SxS makes sense, but at the same time why not use the newer better Thundercat Yamaha built triple? If money is no object?
Ian Sebastian I do agree ,but I believe it's in the same sence that Nascar races monte Carlos when I don't think those cars ever started off as anything close to a monte Carlo lol
I've seen several SxS In dune videos running no clutch cover. why is that? ease of maintenance? seems to me I'd be afraid of something getting in there and messing it up
The wildcat was never a choice for me. I loved the price so much I went to the dealer to try one out, when they came out. Way way way too snug for a big guy like me. I wouldn't have been comfortable at all. They let me try it out around back, but I didn't even take them up on it, it just was too small. Don't know if anyone else feels that way but... For me, Polaris has always been the most comfortable cab, second would be the Can-am's that my buddies have lent me, both commander and maverick.
Josh Lewis why do you think they're running stm clutches ? I can also gaurantee you they're not running the dayco belt on sale for $99 at Dennis Kirk. Not to mention...if sombody's spending roughly $80 grand on a buggy, I'm sure keeping a few spare belts on hand won't be an issue.
TheCamaro5 $80k is not out of the question for a build like that with any brand. Hell, there are class 12 buggies out there that are $80+ and they're limited to 150 ponies for a 2 seater. Keep in mind though that these things are pretty much set up for only the desert and would be utterly useless for anything else.
John Smith ant it'll never be run anywhere but the desert. A bit of sant hitting a clutch at 5000 rpm plus really stands no chance of getting into the spider, rollers, weights etc. many of the guys out westbrun with their covers off.
waste ... the average rider wont have 50k in sponsors to support a garbage artic cat sxs. they need a serious overhaul to keep up with can am and polaris.
Dan Henderson not necessarily. Heat is the biggest issue with cvt setups, not horsepower. Running without the cvt cover will go a long way towards fixing the heat issue. I'm betting they're also running an infrared cvt belt temp guage to monitor temps too.
300 hp!!! Absolutely mind blowing

I have a 2012 wildcat 1000ho wish I had the fundings to do this to mine. Wildcats definitely need more power!!
Arctic cat needs to make their own, and put them out of business
Why ?

I don't see how this is considered a wildcat. Custom frame, engine, tires, rims, engine, clutch suspension etc....
Ian Sebastian I do agree ,but I believe it's in the same sence that Nascar races monte Carlos when I don't think those cars ever started off as anything close to a monte Carlo lol
Wildcats are 🔥

Cooling more than anything I believe.
in guessing too much heat with big power.
Don't care what it looks like, if it runs like a scalded dog then I'm in!!! Looks like a lot of fun
That build looks amazing u guys should do a full depth video on how it's actually made that arctic cat vehicle just blew my mind One beautiful buggy
There is a 4-part playlist on our channel.

Dear dirt trax, you should post a new episode about a yxz 1000 rebuild to turn this new monster to the beat off-road beast
I have a 2015 wildcat 1000 and want more power what do you suggest
Can you give an idea about the weight of the rollcage
+ron gray: Dude, alot more than 1% of the population can afford 40k...but, D.T.'s reply is still valid
How much would a can am maverick version cost fully decked out for the mud
Make this machine!!!!
So, is the z1100 motor a typical cat built boat anchor or a rebadged yamaha motor ?
Wildcat is the best ever keeep going
why is there no clutch cover? heat? you figure its gonna get sand in it anyways?
Can he do a Sport Utility SXS like this?
Do you still have stock motor?
is there no cover over the belt.?
the open clutches wouldn't last long in our trails. Sudbury area is mud everywhere you go.
those are only for sand dunes.
Ernie Desjardins that machine is no longer setup for anything but desert racing. The chances of it ever seeing a trail are nonexistent.
very nice
300 HP through a CVT??? Have fun replacing belts.
well i bet he isnt using your typical belt on there
For Polaris owners this is a daily thing though

Kevlar belts...and no there not $99 at Dennis Kirk...
Why didn't you just throw some alka stage fives on their?
awesome
Xander Brown
How much would that cost.
awc does the same building for 16k on a rzr 1000. top quality
I wasn't even close. Over $60,000
How much does something like this cost
It’s still an Arctic cat! Lol
how much does something like this cost?
Looking for $40K USD, which is almost half price.
Dirt Trax Television lol nope
Between 20k -25k just looked at them over the weekend at dealer ..
I'll take one too. Red is a great color. Shall I send address and payment
Sorry it’s late and I’m cranky. I meant 1100cc below. Darn typos.
After all that work they couldn't fab up a clutch cover?????? Send it to me and I'll make you one!!!
thats for cooling in the hot dunes
welderteach you'd be surprised how many guys run without covers out in the desert. Heat is the number one cause of grenaded belts.
front tires are slicks
Nice
Why they not have CVT covered
Zack Summerford to keep belt temps down.
evryone was waitin for a production z1 wildcat- too sad never happened....
How much
no cover on the clutches? yikes...
$30,000, $40,000 how much ?
Looking for $40K USD, which is almost half price.
what do you mean almost half price. Is the normal price like 80k
TheCamaro5 $80k is not out of the question for a build like that with any brand. Hell, there are class 12 buggies out there that are $80+ and they're limited to 150 ponies for a 2 seater. I want this
If you're going to gut it, why not build your own chassis??
The welds look pretty sloppy at the 1:00 mark.
Extra belts by the dozen
rip arctic cat
To think, americans used to build things to be productive in society
still doesn't look as good as the RZR
They should do the same thing with a rzr
Corban Smith it has almost double hp
yes and that is fantastic but it still looks like a rat.
Corban Smith... and neither of them look as good as the Can-Am Maverick X3 XRS
Corban Smith it has looked like the front clip is off a lawn mower to me ever since these came out
I'd hate to have my clutches out in the open like that. Water sand rocks sticks anything can dick it up
John Smith ant it'll never be run anywhere but the desert. A bit of sant hitting a clutch at 5000 rpm plus really stands no chance of getting into the spider, rollers, weights etc. many of the guys out westbrun with their covers off.
there is no cover over the belt
Naw. Rather have a sand rail
or you can just buy the Yamaha and put a turbo on it. This is just a lot of work and money when there are so many other options.
automatics suck thats why non of that artic cat stuff for me yamaha get my biz
Sansui Mcpeters so you can constantly be replacing clutches ? Even the guys with the rekluse setups & shorter gearing are still having issues.
Maybe they shouldn’t talk as much and let us hear the damn thing
$40,000 usd! Fucking gotta b kidding me!? Even a hand job from that washed up nascar drivers wife wouldn’t make it worth it
waste ... the average rider wont have 50k in sponsors to support a garbage artic cat sxs. they need a serious overhaul to keep up with can am and polaris.
This vehicle is not intended for the average rider.
Kris Mcc now that textron is running the show we'll se what the future holds. They're really gonna have to up their game to catch up though.
Buy two Yamaha's for the same price
Put in a real transmission. Then give me a call.
talk to yamaha
Are u going to do a overview on the 2017 Polaris lineup all together,,,,,soon,,,,
Yes, we'll be riding these in about two weeks.
awesome
Extra belts by the dozen
you don't sled do you?
Dan Henderson not necessarily. Heat is the biggest issue with cvt setups, not horsepower. Running without the cvt cover will go a long way towards fixing the heat issue. I'm betting they're also running an infrared cvt belt temp guage to monitor temps too.
