Yeah the two strokes seem to be pretty damn wild, but you can be sure that riding today's GP'S bikes mustn't be easy, those things are blindly fast, I know they have more electronics, but that's just to make up for how fast they are, I'm sure riding them today without any aids would be nearly impossible, nostalgia is a hell of a thing, it makes us think that everything in the past was better.

Those decorations where loaned to their 50 cc moped counterparts. The Movistar Suzuki Katana R, the Marlboro Yamaha Aerox, the Aprilia SR and the Repsol Honda SFX. Those were the bikes I was able to drive during those years.
i remember Roberst Jr talking about the Suzuki back then and said "with this bike in the wet, i can beat anybody. this thing is so smooth to ride with absolute mad brakes and stability" unfortunately, when you give up almost 15hp to the Hondas, in the dry it gets tricky. yet he claimed the 2000's championship. What a great, exciting race. These used to be common in MotoGP, until traction control came along and ruined things. Without it, I think Rossi would be up to at least 10 MotoGP championships by now.
Ivar rasmussen Yes, the old 500 2 strokes were more powerful and also had much more narrow power bands. For those reasons they were MUCH harder to ride than today's MotoGP 4 strokes. Traction control makes the new bikes even easier to ride.
***** No, I'm comparing today's MotoGP bikes to the pre-2002 MotoGP bikes. You're commenting about MotoGP, and you don't know that prior to 2002 bikes were limited to 500cc displacement, and that from the mid 1970's through 2001 ALL MOTOGP BIKES WERE 500CC 2 STROKES??? LOL, what an ignorant dumb ass you are. Traction control doesn't "keep them on the road." Today's MotoGP machines could just as well be raced without traction control, and every MotoGP rider would have no problems doing so. What traction control does do is make the bikes safer because it eliminates most high side crashes, and most all injuries occur as a result of high side crashes. Safety is THE REASON why MotoGP has made traction control mandatory. Other effects of traction control are that it makes the bikes EASIER TO RIDE because the rider doesn't have to be as precise on the throttle, and it also REDUCES THE FEAR A RIDER HAS OF CRASHING. NO MotoGP rider would agree that traction control makes riding the bikes possible. EVERY MotoGP rider would agree that traction control greatly reduces the frequency of high side crashes and resulting injuries. And EVERY MotoGP rider would agree that riding a pre-2002 500cc 2 stroke MotoGP bike is FAR MORE DIFFICULT than riding today's 1000cc 4 stroke MotoGP bikes, even if they didn't have the traction control advantage. The old 500cc 2 strokes were beasts with more HP and a much more narrow power band than today's 1000cc 4 strokes.
