2020 year than Amorella and Viking Grace run aground. I can't remember when 2 or more Viking line vessels run aground in one year.

Could not believe it when i saw the news coming in today. Poor Viking, they have had really bad luck in this not so wonderful year 2020, now number two incident. What´s going on?!
Ennen koronaa pahalla myrskyllä mentiin näistä satamista ohi. Nyt varustamoilla on taalankuvat silmissä kun pokaa on vähemmän joten riskejä otetaan herkemmin. Varustamo tästä on pitkälti vastuussa.
Tasan tarkkaan näin. Kukaan ei edes yrittänyt mennä Maarianhaminaan kovassa tuulessa aikaisemmin.

For me it seems that Amorella hinder Grace to begin the manouver to pier and MAYBE its one reason to the accident. Have you heard (gossips) of any technical mailfunction to main propellers...loss off power.......very strange in video. Is the skipper a newbie or from the old guard :-)

I saw Grace passing Oxdjupet this morning. And I feel so sorry for her crew now. I bet they had a technical malfuction.
They were coming in to the port when the captain realized that they would destroy the port if they continued the course, so he decided to turn around and do it again when the wind hit the ship which caused it to run aground.

Judging from the wash at the aft end it looks like they were thrusting to port which appears a bit strange. Anyone know what happened????
The wind was coming from the port side, and basically the waves pushed the ship sideways towards the shore. What I think the bridge crew tried to do was to turn against the wind, and try to battle it the correct way, like, for example, if out in the ocean a rogue wave appears, to prevent the capsizing, they turn the ship towards the wave, to slice the wave open. I'm sorry if I explained a simple thing in an essay, lol.
Why did she stop reversing?
Wonder if they could have saved her if they went full reverse, but that might have endangered the other ships in the harbour.
At least the wind where to strong for her. Only explanation so far.

Kyllä maalla viisaita ollaan, kun merellä vahinko sattuu. Onhan kapteenit paljon välttäneet satamointia Maarianhaminassa kovalla tuulella, mutta kun sekin oli sitten jotenkin huono, varustamon mielestä.

Minuutin kohdalla näkee perä aalloista, että ihan väärin käännetään koko laivaa. Tuossa tilanteessa olisi pitänyt laittaako pakki päälle ja ohjata keulalla pois tuosta tilanteesta.
Näytti kyllä siltä että potkurilla oikeen annettiin lisää vauhtia että törmää rantaan. Ei voi muuta todeta kun että en viking linen purkkeihin enää astu.

@@HeseTku Hmmm... Koulutuksen just pitäis auttaa mm. välttämään näitä juttuja ja ennakoimaan mm. tuulta... Tuulensuojaanhan nää nykyiset alukset ei enää juurikaan pääse, kuten pienemmän purkit tai silloin kun autolautat oli pienempiä.. Kokeneet merikapteenit on jo pitkään ennen Gracea sanoneet/varoittaneet että aluksista on tehty liian isoja operoimaan noilla väylillä noissa oloissa.

@@HeseTku ye, they always do that with Grace in Mariehamn but perhaps not all isnt familiar with that.
Why didnt they put full ahead and starboard rudder when it was obvlouse that Grace slides more snd more sideways to shore. Or dropped starboard anchor and forward with engines. The bow propellers where to weak in this wind....around 25 m/s. Its seems that they where paralyzed on command bridge. Mostly they blame technical failure on maritime inquiries butbthis time I think itbwont work out. Pitty thing anway.
