That didn't look like an O ring at the vacuum breaker connection but more like a normal washer whereas there is an O ring where the body slides into the shut off valve. If you have the correct O ring, there should never be a need for teflon tape anywhere on these units..
thanks alot. I tried to replace the vacuum breaker and there is no longer leak at this location. Now there is a leak at the connection where you said you may have to change the rubber o-ring if it leaks. My leak is not from the thread but it is where the metal o-ring is. I am trying to figure it out, but I can't understand why there is a leak there. I thought the metal o-ring broke, so I went to the plumbing store. The metal o-ring at the store is the same as the one I have.... Can you please give me some advice? Thank you
I used a spud wrench at work in order to loosen the nut located on the right side of the toilet, in an attempt to replace the vaccum breaker. Unfortunately, I somehow caused a leak from where the nut is and ended up having to turn the water off. It required a lot of force loosening that nut. Did that end up damaging it? Also, would Teflon tape help with fixing it? Thanks.
Always t tape and pipe dope fittings most ppl will say it’s not important but I believe that it makes a difference. In my personal opinion the teflon tape makes a seal and the dope allow you to fully engage the joint
I don't understand how water gets from up top, through the vacuum breaker, and into the bowl. It seems like the vacuum breaker should create a watertight seal, but somehow it lets water through and this is really bothering me that I don't understand this.
the biggest problem i seen in all the videos i have watch is not using plumber grease on the o rings before they put them together, just a little lube so it is not dry rubber on metal

I replaced the vacuum breaker on mine at my job and it still leaks in that same spot afterwards ugh
